A CELEBRATION OF WORSHIP CLAREMONT UNITED CHURCH OF CHRIST PRELUDE Meditation Dupont INTROIT Draw Us In the Spirit’s Tether Friedell WELCOME CALL TO WORSHIP One: Our Creator made us as a reflection of God’s Divine Self. All: We are created in love. One: Our Creator gives us dreams, imaginations, and visions. All: We are created with beauty. One: Our Creator invites us into creating a better world. All: We are created to create! OPENING HYMN #556 God Who Stretched the Spangled Heavens HOLY MANNA (1: ALL, 2: Choir, 3: ALL) EASTERTIDE PRAYER Creating God, you called forth all that exists in a moment of divine brilliance. Open us again to that spark which you ignited in each of us at our creation so that we might generate more life-giving energy in this world. Draw us into your story of hope. Give us the courage to dream big dreams. In Christ’s name we pray, Amen. PASSING OF THE PEACE One: May the peace of Christ be with you. All: And also with you. SERMON ON THE STEPS OFFERING/MUSIC Meditation Chaminade, arr. Callahan Jordan Wainwright, trombone DEDICATION SCRIPTURE Luke 4:13-21 13 When the devil had finished every test, he departed from him until an opportune time.

14 Then Jesus, filled with the power of the Spirit, returned to Galilee, and a report about him spread through all the surrounding country. 15 He began to teach in their synagogues and was praised by everyone. 16 When he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up, he went to the synagogue on the sabbath day, as was his custom. He stood up to read, 17 and the scroll of the prophet Isaiah was given to him. He unrolled the scroll and found the place where it was written: 18 “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to bring good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim release to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to let the oppressed go free, 19 to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.” 20 And he rolled up the scroll, gave it back to the attendant, and sat down. The eyes of all in the synagogue were fixed on him. 21 Then he began to say to them, “Today this scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing.” SERMON Created to Create: Rev. Dr. Jen Strickland “In Order to Create We Must DREAM” ANTHEM Every Time I Feel the Spirit arr. Dawson PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE & THE LORD’S PRAYER Today’s prayer was compiled by our church’s Prayer Team and reflects the contents of our own hearts. To honor the power of both the traditional and new versions of the Lord’s Prayer, we will alternate which version we pray each week. One: …We pray… All: Great Giver, in whom heaven is found, holy is Your name. May your commonwealth of peace and freedom flourish on earth. Give us this day bread for our journey, and make us hungry to see the whole world nourished. Forgive us and help us forgive one another. Strengthen us for the challenges that lie ahead. Let us hear your prophets, and deliver us from our privilege. For your love is the only power, the only home, the only honor we need, in this world and in the world to come. Amen.

Cameron (1927-2013) wrote this text in 1967, while she was experiencing a sense of creativity and growth. She wrote the hymn to reflect humanity's obligation to reflect God's creation. Cameron was born in St. John, New Brunswick, Canada, the daughter of a Presbyterian minister. She has written poetry since childhood. Her humans have appeared in a number of major American hymnals. William Moore (19th century) completed a shape-note tunebook, which was published in Cincinnati in 1925. Shape-note tune books provided an easy way to learn tunes.
