AS WE INVOLVE, OUR HOME SHOULD TOO

INTERIOR Interior design is the art and science of enhancing the interior of a building to achieve a healthier and more aesthetically pleasing environment for the people using the space. An interior designer is someone who plans, researches, coordinates, and manages such enhance- ment projects. Interior design is a multifaceted pro- fession that includes conceptual development, space planning, site inspections, programming, research, communicating with the stakeholders of a project, con- struction management, and execution of the design.

Modern Interior Design Style From the onset, it is important to note that “modern” and “contemporary” are two different interior styles. A modern interior design style is defined by clean and simple color schemes, welcoming feel, clean individual elements, as well as heavy use of glass and steel and much-needed siding replacements that date back in historical times. Black and white dominate the color palette, with some faded shades blue, red, among other prime colors.

Modern Interior Design Style This style trended in the early twenty century and happened to make a comeback a century later. Most décor materi- als in this style border on simplicity, especially the furnishings. Nothing is overly loud or daring.

5 Defining Elements of Modern Design 1. Clean lines: Modern homes are constructed with clean, straight lines and minimal ornamentation. 2. Minimal home decor: Modern spaces are free from clutter and unnecessary flourishes. Mod- ern decor prioritizes functionality over fashion. 3. Neutral colors: Modern style steers clear of bright colors in favor of a monochromatic, neutral color pal- ette. Think white, beige, gray, black, and pastel tones. 4. Open floor plan: Use furniture instead of walls to differentiate between the spaces of an open plan home. For example, a kitchen island can separate a kitchen from the dining room, and a sectional sofa can bring definition to an open living room. 5. Low and long furniture: Long furniture pieces situated low to the ground can give your home a modern look if they’re also made from natural ma- terials like unpainted wood or metal. Leather and fabric upholstery, wood veneers (such as those used to create the classically mid-century mod- ern Eames chair), glass, chrome, steel, and con- crete are also popular finishes for modern furniture. Modern vs. Contemporary Interior

Mid-Century Interior Design Style The mid-century interior design style was popular in the wake of the Second World War. Just like was the trend with almost every aspect of life those days, this interior design style em- phasized on vivid use of color; from the walls to the wall arts, to the artifacts. Everything was colorful in this era. Furniture was defined by crisp lines, and indoor plants were in plenty.

Mid-Century Interior De- sign Style This is an interior design style from the 40s to the 60s. As was symbolic of the times, after the end of World War II, minimal- ism and utility were the core themes of homes. A home designed with the Mid-Century Modern Style has a retro feel with a fresh twist.

4 Characteristics of Mid-Century Modern 1. Minimalist: Mid-century modern furniture is of- ten very simple with sleek lines and a focus on functionality and uncluttered spaces. Chairs and tables will often consist of simple pieces of ma- terial held up by wooden or metal pin-style legs. 2. Mixing materials and aesthetics: Manmade ma- terials (like vinyl, plastic, lucite, and fiberglass) and natural materials (like wood, glass, metal, and marble) are often used together in mid-century furniture design. You also see modern pieces staged with vintage statement pieces in mid-century modern design. 3. Fusion of indoor and outdoor: Mid-century mod- ern architecture emphasized the fusion of manmade structure and nature, and mid-century design does the same. Plants are often incorporated into this kind of decor, as are window treatments that encourage a sense of continuity between indoor and outdoor. 4. Natural hues with pops of color: Mid-centu- ry modern decor uses bright accent colors against primary neutral tones of white, black, and wood tones. In keeping with the idea of combining indoor and outdoor, the mid-century color palette is root- ed in nature, with earthy greens, bright fall orang- es and yellows, muddy browns, sea blue-greens such as aquamarine and teal, and deep clay red.

Minimalist Interior Design Style This minimalist interior design style originated in Australia and is still very popular there. The style emphasizes minimalism in all aspects of interior design, from simple furnishing to neutral color palettes, to functional but not flamboyant accessories. Everything is streamlined, simple, and necessary. No excesses.

Minimalist Interior Design Style Minimalist architec- ture is about achieving better design through simplicity – a simplicity of form, space, materi- ality, detail, and color. Minimalist design also shows restraint and a careful paring down and editing of spaces to get to a place of clarity.

5 Characteristics of minimalist design 1.Simplicity in form and function: Sim- ple forms, open floor plans, minimal interi- or walls, modest storage areas, and an em- phasis on views and daylight are defining characteristics of many minimalist floor plans. 2.Uncomplicated cladding & wall finishes: Using a simple continuous exterior cladding material can easily provide visual appeal and articulation by expressing the physical char- acteristics of the materials and their texture. 3.Clean, open, light-filled spaces: The minimal- ist design has always clean, open and light filled spaces which are the fundamentals of this design. The use of neutral color palette, light color tones for walls, clean modern detailing give the minimal- ist design a calm, attractive and interesting appeal. 4.Simple detailing devoid of decoration: There is no clutters and abundance of deco- rations, accessories and objects. It is also to avoid the complexities and trim the details as well as paring down to only what is necessary. 5.Strategic use of materials for visual inter- est, texture, and personality: Eye-catching materials such as the brick wall on the right be- low can stand on their own without the need for shelving and knick-knacks to clutter them up.

Shabby Chic Interior De- sign Style The Shabby Chic Style is characterized by laid-back vibes, airy lighting fixtures, antique-touch furniture, and a vintage-inspired charm. It is inspired by modern de- signs, butithassomeelementsofcontemporarydesign.

4 Characteristics of shabby chic design 1.Antique, upcycled, or distressed-look- ing furniture: find new items that are made to look that way, or give your existing furni- ture a shabby chic feel with the right paint. 2.Floral accents & a touch of nature: Flowers, in particular, are a shabby chic staple, both when it comes to freshly cut bouquets and floral prints. From your curtains to throws and pillows or bed- dings, you can use them to add a delicate contrast- ing touch against white and neutral backgrounds. 3.White, pastel, or wallpapered walls: A light and delicate pastel hue is a good com- promise if you already have white floors or lots of white furniture. You can always add a few white frames and decorative pieces to main- tain a touch of this staple color on your walls 4.Signature shabby chic items & elements: a few signature elements that are extremely popu- lar.
