NW REGIONAL NEWSLETTER HIGHLIGHTS FOR THE MONTH OF JANUARY The seasonally low applications in December made for a quiet closing month in January, only 35M, but on the bright side it was up 11M from January 2017. The real news in January is where the NW Region is trending. Credit Pulls in January 2017 were 403, January 2018 were 659, the second best in a 12 month period. Applications for January 2017 were 161, 2018 a whopping 280. Our sales team started the New Year off with a flurry of activities that have us off to a good start. Those that qualified to attend Summit in Salt Lake last month were treated to an Olympic theme which is perfect timing given the Olympic Opening Ceremonies are tonight. We heard the trials and tribulation of Michelle Kwan, silver medal figure skater and Dan Jensen, gold medal speed skater, along with others that shared their journeys. Adam, James, and Mike asked us to Carry the Torch, to embrace and personify the 5 P’s, Purpose, People, Passion, Productivity, and Performance. Please read more in this newsletter on how the 5 P’s are what drives our company and are guiding principles of all we do and who we are as an organization. Our culture of giving back was apparent when the attendee’s spent an evening packaging 100,000 meals for those in need. Our Underwriters, Closers, and Funders were a little underwhelmed in January. This group is used to skiing fast and not excited to be on the bunny hill. The processors and support team will be the first to feel the volume increasing, February is a short month but we are tracking to have a nice increase over January and by March we expect to be racing, so buckle in. Congratulations to underwriter Laurie Funston and Closer Christy Milliren for being voted in to attend the Executive Trip to Maui next month. Also a shout out to Ev Cox who earned her trip by qualifying under the ROM requirements. “Good, better, best; never let it rest. Until your good is better and your better is best!” Nicole Pikus-Pace, Olympic Silver Medalist, Skeleton. -Dave Schile

EVELYN COX Summit in January was motivating, had some excellent speakers that shared some excellent tips to help achieve their goals and dreams (some of which were very emotional topics). I enjoyed being able to spend quality time with some of our sales teams and getting to know them better. As seen in the Bulletins, Alerts and Credit Policy announcements, we are working to decrease the time to get docs out, untie hands in Encompass to assist in fixing things faster. We are rolling out new products to assist in bringing in more business. I want to thank you all for the kind caring words and actions, it’s been a long few months, but please know that our family truly appreciates everything you all have done for us. The power of positive thoughts and prayers are amazing. Quotes “Just when the caterpillar thought the world was ending, he turned into a butterfly.” ..Proverb “Great minds discuss ideas; average minds discuss events; small minds discuss people.” ..Eleanor Roosevelt “Successful entrepreneurs are givers and not takers of positive energy.” ..Anonymous “Opportunities don’t happen, you create them.” .. Chris Grosser “Take up one idea. Make that one idea your life – think of it, dream of it, live on that idea. Let the brain, muscles, nerves, every part of your body, be full of that idea, and just leave every other idea alone. This is the way to success.” ..Swami Vivekananda

SUSAN HOLMES What season is it anyway? I am loving the weather, but I’m not sure we are done with snow. My daffodils think it’s time to pop up, but we will see how well that goes. Are you ready to grow and blossom in 2018? I’m excited at the thought of what we can do together. We have so much to share with each other. Check with others that are in your position. See how they get the job done. For example, there is usually more than one way to do a task in Encompass. Ask to observe your counterpart. See what you can learn. Be available for someone to see your process. Share best practices. Try something a little different to see how it works for you. Together we are better, stronger. Go team!

CHOOSE YOUR ATTITUDE: Laugh a little!! This is how they ski in Korea

Johnson Jonathan Michalski! An amazing co-worker and Team player! I have had the privilege of knowing Jonathan about 12 years and getting to work with him for most of those. Some people just get it. Jonathan is one of those. When he is faced with a challenge, he rolls up his sleeves and BEGINS until it is complete. He is extremely knowledgeable in this industry, honest, fair and quick to take ownership of any mistake and even quicker to apologize and find a solution. It was the longest time before I real- ized he is human. I have never had to second guess with him. So happy he is part of the Team at Academy and hope those of you who don’t know him, take the time! Your day will be a little bright- er when his sense of humor shines on the topic! Thanks for all you do, Jonathan! ~Carolyn Summerton

Team Academy, As most of you are aware, in January of 2018, Academy kicked off the year by gathering leaders from across the organization to participate in our annual Leadership Summit. The focus of the meeting was directed towards soliciting our leaders’ help in “Carrying the Torch” regarding Academy’s 5 P’s: Purpose, People, Passion, Productivity, and Performance. The 5 P’s are what drives Academy and are the guiding principles of all we do and who we are as an organization. The 5 P’s should be utilized as a filter in all you do at Academy. Purpose: Vision, Mission, Culture We Believe that our Purpose, our reason for being, is to Build, Nurture, Protect, Preserve, and Promote a Culture that Inspires Hope, Delivers Dreams, and Builds Prosperity in the Lives of Our Employees, Partners, Homeowners and Communities. People: Leadership, Teamwork, Talent We Believe that People and the Relationships that bind us are the most valuable currency we hold. Our investment and commitment to attracting, retaining, and bonding with like-minded individuals (People who share our Passion for Purpose) are perhaps the most important work we engage in as leaders. Passion: FANomenal Experiences, FANS We Believe in the Experience Economy. We are Passionate about creating FANS. We do this through the delivery of FANomenal Experiences to Homeowners, Partners, and Employees. Our ability to do this will separate and differentiate us from our competition in ways that will drive market share. Productivity: Practices and Behaviors We Believe in continuous improvement, measurement, and accountability. A hyper-focus on the key practices and behaviors that increase Personal, Team, and Organizational Productivity needs to be everyone’s concern—without this we cannot Inspire Hope, Deliver Dreams, or Build Prosperity. Performance: Results – Profit, People, Purpose We Believe that Performance is about winning. Winning at Academy is about our ability to sustainably drive profit, to build Prosperity for our People, and achieve our Purpose. As an organization and as a Leadership Team, we believe that our ability to move Academy from Good to Great is dependent upon each one of us to “Carry the Torch” in our respective areas of influence in executing on the 5 P’s.
