Community Resilience Education & Military Day – Mrs MaxeyOn Wednesday 2nd September, our Year 10 students took part ina dynamic CREAM Project (Community Resilience Education andMilitary). Students worked alongside a range of agencies to overcomea ‘community crisis’.Agencies included the Military, Greater Manchester Police,Ambulance and Fire Services, the Environmental Agency, MetrologicalOffice, Highways England and senior representatives from thelocal authority to name but a few. Some of our students alsobecome ‘roving reporters’ for the day, filming and interviewingstaff and agency personnel, with support from ITN News and theFire Service Media team.The objectives of the day were to give each student theopportunity to work in a collaborative way, to develop resilienceand strategic thinking as well as gaining an insight into thecareers and opportunities of many services.On site throughout the day there were also a number of vehiclesand equipment that students had the opportunity to explore.Some agencies also had career advisors with them so thatstudents could investigate a range of future opportunities.The day was closed by the Mayor and Mayoress of Stockportwho congratulated the students for their participation andengagement in the day. Comenius Trip to Turkey – Mr NicolaouOur final chapter to the Comenius project ended in May this year witha trip to Turkey. We tried and enjoyed the local cuisine, dancing andvisiting the host school and spending time with the pupils there. Wevisited the Lord Mayor, museums, Mosque and a couple of days inCappadocia.Our pupils did us proud once again (no surprises there). Our childrenmade new friends and were so friendly to the locals. Everline and Pamelah also spent a morning at Gatley Primary School and an evening with Cheadle Rotary Club, as well as being entertained out of school by Kingsway teachers, ex-teachers and governors. The visit was supported by the British Council’s ‘Connecting Classrooms’ project. Two Kingsway teachers: Mr Burniston, Head of Geography and Mr Hall, Technology teacher, will be making a reciprocal visit to Kolweny Schools over October half term. 5
