Deur Readers / Liewe Lesers Ek sien deur my kamervenster die herfsblare op die gras en die kalender dui Paasfees oor ‘n paar dae aan. Tyd snel verby terwyl die wêreld in chaos gedompel is. Die petrolprys is die onderwerp van bespreking om braaivleisvure en kenmerkend aan ons Afrikaanse kultuur is daar reeds ‘n paar grappies daaroor in omgang … sommige mense sluk maar swaar, want daarmee saam tuimel begrotings en lewenstandaarde. Rusland maak oorlog en op die tuisfront kou ons naels omdat die rippel effek daarvan sommer net hier voor ons wag… die verhoogde petrolprys is reeds een van die gevolge van die nare oorlog…en dan onthou ek Paasfees en die Groot Prys wat vir ons betaal is…ek onthou van ons vergifnis en redding … Vanjaar se Paasfees is vir my meer as paashase en langnaweek. Ek is intens bewus van die veranderinge in die wêreld. Ek is meer intens bewus van God en Sy bestaan en dat daar nie ‘n haar van een van ons se koppe sal val sonder dat Hy nie daarvan bewus is nie. Ek weet dat uitkoms dalk nie nou sigbaar is nie en heel moontlik lyk uitkoms nie soos wat ons hoop of verwag nie… ek hoop ook en soms raak ek ook moedeloos maar dan onthou ek weer Jer 29:11 en ek kan vir ‘n wyle asemskep omdat Hy ‘n goeie Pa is wat ons nie sal begewe of verlaat nie. In 2006 neem hy deel aan die Wêreld Kampioenskappe vir Uitvoerende Kunste waar hy die gesogte “Grand Champion Award” vir sang, verower. Hy matrikuleer aan Hoërskool Jeugland in Kempton Park waarna hy sy tersiêre studies aan die Waterfront Theatre School in Kaapstad voltooi. Onder die bekwame leiding van Delia Sainsbury, Paul Griffiths en Keith Galloway verwerf hy ‘n Lisensiaat in Musiek-Teater en ‘n Lisensiaat in Drama vanaf die Trinity Guildhall College in Londen. Hy word ook in sy finale jaar met die Richard Loring-prys vir Uitstaande Spel bekroon en word ook ‘n rol aangebied in Richard Loring se CAPE STORIES FROM THE MOTHER CITY in Seepunt, Kaapstad. Vir hierdie film word Germandt dan ook benoem vir ‘n SAFTA vir “Best Supporting Actor in a Feature Film”. Germandt Geldenhuys stel ook uiteindelik sy lang-verwagte enkelsnit “In Geval” vry. Kykers het ‘n kort segment daarvan vir die eerste keer op Binnelanders gehoor aan die begin van Januarie 2022, maar nou kan hulle die volle liedjie uiteindelik hoor op hulle gunsteling radio stasies, asook op alle digitale platforms. “It’s never too late to be what you might have been”, lui die bekende gesegde deur George Eliot. Met ‘n onlangse storielyn waar sy karakter ‘n “sangloopbaan” wou begin, was die skrywers van dié gewilde reeks op soek na ‘n liedjieskrywer wat ‘n oorspronklike liedjie kon skryf wat ‘Louis’ dan in die storielyn kwansuis sou skryf en sing. Germandt bied toe aan om self te probeer en soos hulle sê: the rest is history! Nadat kykers uiter positief gereageer het op die 30 sekonde segment van die liedjie wat uitgesaai is, het Germandt besluit om dit te voltooi en op te neem as ‘n enkelsnit. Saam met Sean Butler, die bekende en talentvolle musiek-vervaardiger, het Germandt toe verder aan die melodie en lirieke geskaaf en die liedjie is begin Februarie 2022 voltooi. “Ek en Sean het in die spasie van 3-4 ure die melodie geskryf en daarna het ek ongeveer 2 weke aan die lirieke geskaaf. Ek het diep gaan delf omdat ek wou hê die liedjie moet iets wees waarna enige iemand kon luister en aanklank daarby vind.” ‘In Geval’ is presies dit: ‘n enkelsnit wat spreek tot universele liefde. Vir enige iemand wat al ooit lief was vir iemand anders, vir enige iemand wat al ooit die regte woorde gesoek het om hulle liefde te beskryf, vir enige iemand wat al ooit gesukkel het om die ander persoon te laat verstaan hoe hulle voel. Ouers en kinders, eggenote, broers en susters, vriende en verliefdes – dis nie altyd maklik om te sê hoe ‘n mens voel nie, maar dis belangrik dat die ander persoon dit weet, in geval hulle enigsins sou wonder of twyfel. “In Geval” is Germandt se eerste enkelsnit en dié liedjie sal hom ongetwyfeld aan die publiek voorstel as ‘n kunstenaar om dop te hou. Die enkelsnit is al vanaf 4 Maart 2022 op all digitale musiek-platforms beskikbaar. Germandt is huidiglik regoor die land te sien met sy solo optredes, as seremonie meester, en motiverings praatjies. Hy en sy kolega en vriendin Je-ani Swiegelaar het ook ‘n produksie genaamd Keelvol wat baie gewild is onder hierdie twee sterre se aanhangers. Nóú is hierdie twintigjarige jong man van Krugersdorp gereed om gehore nog verder te beïndruk met die tweede enkelsnit uit sy eie pen, Het Jy Geweet. Dwayne beskryf dié kontemporêre enkelsnit as ’n omgee-liedjie wat daarop neerkom dat wanneer jy regtig vir iemand omgee, jy nie anders kan as om hulle geluk eerste te stel nie... selfs al voel hulle nie dieselfde nie en dit beteken dat jy hom of haar moet laat gaan. “Hierdie liedjie is deur verskeie mense se persoonlike ervarings, asook ander soortgelyke situasies, geïnspireer en ek het my woorde baie versigtig gekies en nie opgehou ontwikkel aan die lirieke totdat ek tevrede was nie,” vertel hy. Volgens hom, gaan die publiek beslis aanklank vind by die snit, omdat almal al gemengde gevoelens gehad het oor ’n spesifieke situasie in hulle lewens. “Die doel van die liedjie is om unieke betekenis te hê vir elkeen wat daarna luister, sodat hulle met die boodskap kan vereenselwig.” Alhoewel hy nou maar twee jaar amptelik in die musiekbedryf doenig is, is hy beslis nie ’n groentjie wanneer dit by musiek kom nie en het al op die ouderdom van twaalf ernstig begin raak oor musiek. Hy het op hoërskool in die koor gesing en gereeld deelgeneem aan verskeie musiekkompetisies en -konserte waarin hy goed presteer het. Hy was ook mede-skrywer van die Staan Sterk in Afrikaans Konsert, wat deur onafhanklike kunstenaars op die been gebring is, se temalied. Dwayne geniet en sing ’n wye verskeidenheid genres, wat wissel van Country en Rock tot Afrikaans en Pop en sal graag nog eendag saam met Ruhan du Toit en Riana Nel wou werk. Omdat hy baie kreatief is, hou hy ook daarvan om homself deur middel van verskillende mediums uit te druk. Daarom doen hy grafiese ontwerpe in sy vrye tyd wanneer hy nie op die verhoog is nie. Tans is hy en sy span hard besig om aan sy eerste album te werk, wat hy graag volgende jaar sal wil vrystel. “Dit gaan oorspronklike musiek, asook my weergawes van bekende liedjies, bevat sodat die luisteraars my, as kunstenaar, beter kan leer ken.” Oor die afgelope twee jaar, het die musiekbedryf hom geleer om gemaklik te wees in sy eie vel en op die verhoog. Hy was nog altyd vasberade om sy musiek op die radio te hoor en voel bevoorreg om reeds sy tweede enkelsnit onder die knie te hê. Daar is nog baie wat hy in die toekoms wil bereik en met ’n liedjie soos Het Jy Geweet, is hy beslis op die regte pad om ’n groot sukses van sy musiekloopbaan te maak.
