Message from Assistant Commissioner’s Desk It is a matter of great pleasure that KV IIT Guwahati is publishing the Vidyalaya Patrika ‘ Genesis' - hard work of the students and teachers. KVS always strives for excellence in all the arenas of education, i.e., cognitive, affective and psycho-motor. Here, students get lots of exposure to learn, express and find recognition for their talent and dedication. They also develop the qualities of multi-tasking, cooperation and ability to innovate. May the ‘Pierian Spring’ of creativity grow stronger amongst the children under the able guidance of the diligent teachers. Congratulations to the young writers and best wishes to the Vidyalaya family. Shri A. K. Dabral Assistant Commissioner KVS RO Guwahati

MESSAGE FROM HM It gives me immense pleasure and pride to be a part of this institute of excellence, Kendriya Vidyalaya IIT Guwahati. Education is not only acquiring textual knowledge, but in fact it is the holistic development of students. We, at KV IIT Guwahati, put in our best efforts to provide an encouraging, motivating environment to develop the true potential of our students. Our students excel at academics, sports, music and dance, art and craft, science exhibitions, literary sphere among others. Our students have made us proud by participating and winning at various school level, regional level and national competitions and events. The Covid 19 pandemic forced the closure of schools but learning did not stop. We ensured that the teaching learning process continued smoothly through online mode. We also appreciate the co-operation that we received from the parents of our students at every step. We were able to transform this challenge into a learning opportunity. As we bring out the online edition of the Vidyalaya Patrika, I would like to congratulate all the students and their parents, teachers of our Vidyalaya for their untiring and sincere efforts. The patrika showcases the different activities conducted throughout the session. It is heartening to see the enthusiastic participation of our students. I appreciate the efforts of the editorial board for collecting and systematically compiling the material for the magazine. I would like to thank Principal Sir for his constant guidance and support. We have an excellent team of teachers who work tirelessly to provide the best learning environment for our students. I would also like to thank the students and their parents for their support. Best wishes. Stay Safe. Dr. Manisha Khetrapal HM, KV IIT Guwahati
From the desk of the Editorial board - `` knowledge is power. Information is liberating. Education is the premise of success in every society, in every family``---Kofi Annan. It is a well-known fact that human beings need three important things for survival-food, clothes and shelter. In today`s era a fourth element is a must that is education. This is a time of great changes and we are passing through a difficult time. In education also we see fast changes. Today, the student is an individual, is a real person with feelings of self -respect, sensitivity, responsibility, capacity and compassion. We at KVIIT Guwahati are working hard to provide our students with such an education, that makes them complete in every sense. To make a child completely educated, all of his or her abilities need to be honoured. Vidyalaya Patrika is the perfect gateway to promote the hidden creativity of the students. Contribution through their thoughts and creative work for the Vidyalaya Patrika is a pride for each student and a boost of confidence. In this venture of bringing out the Vidyalaya Patrika in electronic medium of KVIIT Guwahati, the editorial board was overwhelmed by the response of our students. It was indeed a tedious but an enjoyable task of going through each and every article and fine tuning them wherever necessary. This herculean task of editing the E-Vidyalaya Patrika would not have been possible without the sincere support of the members of the Megazine committee who had undergone an arduous struggle in bringing out of this issue of the magazine in electronic medium. The editorial board appreciates all the sincere efforts taken by the Megazine committee. We are really grateful and thankful to our Principal for entrusting us with the responsibility of editing. We also appreciate and thank all the dignitaries for sparing their valuable time to send their best wishes for the Megazine in the form of message/article. It has been a rewarding experience for the Editorial board editing the Megazine. Once again thanks to all those who helped, inspired and encouraged, both from within and outside the magazine team. Looking forward to grow to greater heights. **************************************************************************

The Evening Stroll It was a pleasant evening. I sat up straight on my bed, staring outside the window. The scene outside had nothing unique about it; the sun setting, birds twittering while returning to their nest. Clouds, sailing by. I was bored at home. Nothing appeared to cheer me up that day. I slouched on my bed, thinking about the things which may cheer me up. Suddenly, I saw my mother staring at me, standing by the doorway. My mother recommended that I should go for a walk. I got up; went straight to my closet. I took my coat and went outside for my walk. I kept wandering with my face down, still wrapped up with my thoughts to become cheerful again. Suddenly, a bird caught my attention. It danced around and started singing in its sweet voice. I found myself getting drifted by the melody.Soon, I realized that the sky got filled with a variety of shades- pink, purple, deep blue, are a few to name. A gentle breeze was blowing. I observed and sensed every movement happening in my surrounding. Looking at it gave me pleasure and satisfaction. To my wonder, I saw that the eastern sky was getting darker abandoning out its light and colours to the west. I could hear the voices of children playing and shouting in the park near our quarters. I could have discovered more of the secrets that nature covers. Alas! It was getting darker. The sounds of the birds were faint. By the time I reached home, I could hear the noise of wind blowing, people talking, owls hooting and crickets chirping. Night had started to fall. The stars were establishing their kingdoms over the horizon. The street lights burst open, throwing light on everything under them. That day I apprehended that life cannot give you pleasure the way you want it. You have to find it in every little thing. Even a stroll outside can fill you with wonder and ideas. We have to be observant and embrace each of these bits because nothing else can give you delight and peace unless you discover it yourself. Vedatroyee Bhattacharjee Class 8A
Prof. Alok Sagar – Messiah for the Tribals Alok Sagar,a great professor who sacrificed his luxurious and comfortable life and contributed his entire life in the development and the upliftment of the society. For 32 long years, Sagar has been working in the Betul and Hoshangabad districts of Madhya Pradesh and helping save the environment. By now, he has planted more than 50,000 trees in Betul. Sagar's journey started back in 1982 when he resigned as professor to get onto a journey of a social worker because he wanted to contribute in the growth of the country and felt it was a better idea to work at the grassroots level. Living in Kochamu, a remote village with 750 tribals that lacks both electricity and roads, and just has one primary school, Sagar embraced this difficult journey without worrying a bit about the degrees he had to his credit, that could land him in comfortable and decent jobs. During his graduation days, Sagar was an ambitious student based out of New Delhi. He did his bachelor in electrical engineering from the prestigious IIT Delhi and got his masters degree from the institute in 1973. That's not all. He went on to complete his PhD at Houston University in Texas, US, before returning to India to become a professor at IIT Delhi. He groomed various students, one of which was our former RBI Governor, Raghuram Rajan. But all this degree were meaningless to him. Sagar has maintained a low profile all his life. It was during the Ghoradongari assembly constituency elections this time, that a confusion regarding one of this district's inhabitants came to light. The district administration, unable to track Sagar's roots, almost asked him to leave the place. It was then that this man revealed his qualifications, and won a million hearts. He learnt the local dialect and adapted their lifestyle. He is a highly learned man who has command over 78 languages. Prof Sagar feels its only tribals that are truly connected with nature and respect it. . He rides 60kms to distribute seeds to neighbouring villages besides doing rural development work. Prof Alok Sagar’s life sets an example that if you are willing to work for a cause, you do not need excuses. Ankita Sarmah Class 10 A

Liverpool the defending champions of the competition facing UEFA Super cup winners Juventus in the final of UCL in Brussels ,Belgium. Juventus had a team of many 1982’s Italy's world cup winning team and also Michel Platini on their side. The stadium was electrified with passionate fans from both sides . But everyone in the stadium didn’t know what was going to happen next. Few months ago UEFA held a meeting for the final of UCL. Most of the officials preferred Camp nou, Barcelona and Santiago bernabeu , Madrid to host the final as both of them were in perfect condition as they were built for 1982’s world cup . But the UEFA choose HEYSEL STADIUM , Brussels to host the final. The stadium was in a very bad condition and some parts of the stadium were also falling apart. Despite its status as Belgium’s National stadium it was in a very bad state. Due to poor maintenance . It was no where near the level of camp nou or bernabeu and it was built in 1930 so it was already 55 years old . On the day of finale , Juventus and Liverpool fans were asked not to sit on the same or the neutral stand as it would be the reason for the fight between the two groups. The stadium was crammed with 58,000 to 60,000 supporters, with more than 25,000 for each team. The two ends behind the goals comprised all-standing terraces, each end split into three zones. The Juventus end was O, N, and M, and the Liverpool end was X, Y, and Z, as deemed by the Belgian court after the disaster. However, the tickets for the Z section were reserved for neutral Belgian fans in addition to the rest of the stadium. That meant the Juventus fans had more sections than the Liverpool fans with the Z section, which was nominally reserved for neutrals. The idea of the large neutral area was opposed by both Liverpool and Juventus, as it would provide an opportunity for fans of both clubs to obtain tickets from agencies or from ticket outs outside the ground and so create a dangerous mix of fans. At some stands before the kick off tickets were illegally sold to juventus fans near the Liverpool fans stands. At that time Belgiumhad a large Italian community so people sold tickets illegally outside the Z stand. Small percentage of tickets ended up in the hands of Liverpool fans. The result of this was disastrous and devastating . Approximately an hour before kick off , the disturbances started between both of them. The fans of Liverpool and juventus stood merely apart. Hooligans began to throw flares , bottles and stones . As the kick off approached it became more intense and Hooligans broke through the boundary between X and Z overpowered the police and charged at the Juventus Fans. As the hooligans charge at them the juventus fans tried to escape through the perimeter wall of section Z . The wall couldn’t with stand the force of fleeing juventus fans and a lower portion collapsed. The outcome of this was 39 deaths,600 injured and 34 arrested. The game went on despite the disaster and Juventus won thanks to the penalty scored by Michel Platini. “In its place was shock and pain and, as we now know only too well, death, so much death. This is still where I go, in my head, when I hear the word Heysel” – A Liverpool fan. As a result English clubs were banned from participating in European competitions for five years and Liverpool for six years. If you don’t know UCL – Uefa champions league is a European competition between europe’s best teams . UEFA – the official body of European football. Liverpool- a club from England with rich history. Juventus – a club from Italy with rich history. Hooligans – a group of ultras or Fans who are aggressive and violent. This practice of hooliganism started in England and is way too popular now. In this story , it is referring to the Liverpool fans. Ayushman Das XA
Live Life, Don’t Just Exist To lead a life of adventure is certainly very exciting and amazing. It involves breaking free of certain social conditioning and challenging yourself to work upon your mental fears, which are mostly in your mind, and discovering unlimited freedom and opportunities. We, therefore, need to be willing to undertake adventure as it is a necessary part of happy existence. It is important to spend your limited time on earth doing some of those things that make a difference and give one enjoyment rather than simply sinking all the time playing the normal routine game of “delayed gratification”. Taking action helps one to build a more enriching life and enables you to embrace life with more passion each day. The desire for sameness never contributors to anything exciting but makes our life and spirit dull. A variety of sports and recreation are adventurous to a lot of people today. Some people race cars, skydivers jump out of a 5 aeroplane, mountain-climbers scale peaks etc. This helps them to escape their daily stress and gives them a ‘high’. So it is important to live life to the fullest and it is also surely worth making the effort to ‘live’ with an adventurous spirit. Rishiraj Singh Class 10 A
The street children Traffic lights on the bridges And the mighty rivers meandering. Beneath the clouds and Sun As the flowery wonders run. Through the pale shimmer of moon The Winds giving a shiver I opened the windows with opened eyes As it drove to the paths of Paradise, filled with fantasy Which was starry, breezy and cold As I sit on the seats and hold I hold my jacket sheets to my skin to win the warmth and the amaranthine empyrean There! look the glittering sky tranquility married to a poetry of stars But can you see the midnight wars And those to the sides in hues and cries Can you hear them? When dazzling summers went by There came the blissed smell of petrichor Yes, the rain brings the rainbow But I was not being able to adore Can you see those thirsty tiny buds sleeping down the roadside and all filled with muds. And can you heal the sun raised flowers who once were the first to bloom and burst in the unignorable blossom and were unconditionally awesome They wear the torn attires Oh no! don’t think they don’t have dreams and desires But for them every season is a passerby boat to sail away and reach the shore For at least they don’t want to shrink in depth of waves and die They accept everything and never ask why For they don’t sit on the seats of long drives and wonder the night sky They drive through hunger and empty stomachs They'll be grateful for the warmness of your jacket Your surplus food and will never be rude They'll just be good, as they were and are For they are the innocent and tender-hearted street children not the scrappy street dogs. EXOCRIST After finishing an archaeological dig in ancient Nineveh, Jesuit priest Lankester Merrin prepares to leave Iraq and return to the United States. A strange premonition, however, fills the elderly priest as he sifts through the recently collected artifacts and discovers an amulet bearing the head of Pazuzu, a demon of sickness and disease. Merrin leaves for home with an icy conviction that he will soon face an ancient enemy. Meanwhile, in Washington, D.C., film star and recently divorced mother Chris MacNeil has rented a home across the street from Georgetown University, where she is acting in a film. As she lies in bed preparing her lines for the following day, she hears strange rapping sounds from somewhere in the house. Other strange events soon occur, the most serious being her daughter Regan’s change in personality. Having found a Ouija board in the basement of the house, the eleven-year-old girl has contacted a “playmate” called Captain Howdy, who now physically abuses her. Medical tests prove futile in explaining Regan’s emerging violent behavior, and her mother remains unconvinced by psychiatric speculations: She knows that the “thing” in her daughter’s room is not Regan. Although she professes no religious belief, she solicits the aid of a young Jesuit priest, Damien Karras—who is also a psychiatrist—and begs for an exorcism. Karras, tormented by a loss of faith and guilt resulting from his indigent mother’s recent death, agrees to see the child in a medical capacity but doubts the possibility of possession. Events soon convince him otherwise. The demon, speaking through Regan’s emaciated body in a groaning, horrific voice, evinces knowledge of Karras’ mother’s death and intones an unknown language that Karras tape-records. After having the tape analyzed, the priest learns that the language is in fact English, but spoken backward. On the tape, the personality confesses to be “No one,” claims to fear “the priest,” and repeats the word “Merrin” several times. Karras receives permission for an exorcism, but the bishop of the diocese insists that a man with experience perform it. Karras may assist. Lankester Merrin, now at Woodstock Seminary in Maryland, receives a telegram without opening it, knowing what it requests of him. The demon awaits his arrival. As the elderly priest enters the house, an unearthly voice booms out his name from the child’s bedroom. The exorcism commences immediately, but the cunning demon attacks Karras’ guilt concerning his mother’s lonely death, and Merrin is forced to send him from the room. Upon returning, Karras finds the elderly priest dead from an apparent heart attack and the demon laughing in victory. In a fit of rage, Karras attacks the possessed body of Regan, daring the demon to enter him, which it does. The demoniac transference is punctuated by a brief moment of lucidity, in which the priest finds his lost faith and exorcises the demon’s power by hurling himself through the second-floor window to his death. Regan is saved. As she recovers physically, she remembers nothing of her ordeal. By- Bijoy Kumar Das Class- 12 A
And here's a Misfortune No one ever realized that such a microscopic size organism can cause such a pandemic in the entire world and be the reason for thousands of deaths. It is not that such a pandemic has happened for the first time, but in this age of social media liberty where information spread faster than the speed of sound, things look much bigger than they are. A long-lasting impact has been created by the notorious COVID-19 from which it will take many months to recover if not years but we saw months turned into years. The education industry has not been left out and the impact of COVID-19 on student life is visible. Whether it is the personal life of students or the environment of school and colleges, Covid pandemic has changed things that were never thought of before. Various measures have been taken by the boards of education and government bodies to enable education to flow smoothly. The latest, among the various measures taken, is how the results of the board exams were declared and this is why many left unsatisfied. Some exams were left as the COVID-19 lockdown was declared by the government, which initially was thought to be just for two weeks or for a month, but as these weeks started growing into months, examination council decided to declare board results based on the performance of students in the school, avoiding the need to conduct the exams that were left. This is something that has never happened in my known history and is a big example of the impact of COVID- 19 on students’ life. Whether the method used by examination council is effective or not is yet to be seen, but certainly, it was a big blow to those students who had the habit of studying only during the end time of the school session, for those who had been studying throughout the year there would have been nothing to be worried about. So, if this trend continues than quite possibly every student will have to study throughout the year, something which is good for the education industry and also the students. COVID-19 lockdown and the dire need to continue with the college and school education has certainly benefited online alternatives to provide education such as ZOOM, Ms teams or Google Classroom as the demand for such things has grown leaps and bounds during the COVID-19 lockdown. However, the overall development of some students will be missing in the online platforms according to me. But we have to settle ourselves tothe ongoing situation cause excuses are not meant to be for always. Things are fine for families who can afford a laptop or a smartphone along with the monthly expense of internet plus other variables so their children can attend the online classes at various platforms. However, there is a large section of children who go to government schools and colleges, and their parents are not in a position to buy them such things so they can attend online classes. The life and future of these students are left dull and unseen. These children are left with no other option but to brave the threat of COVID-19 and attend their classes or stay at home. Time and again, mankind has to face various types of challenges, several disease outbreaks have happened in the past and numerous lives were lost to it. we are going through just another such phase, and as one famous philosopher has said, “this too shall pass”, the situation created by the COVID-19 will be controlled one day. Till that time this happens, we will have to adjust our lives according to it with a hope that everything will get alright soon. -Pratiksha Das XIIA
A monster On a day of a bright sun, All happy and done. A monster awaiting to come, Just a sneak peek and all gone. Men and women all whimper, When this monster shows it’s true colors. A big wave from the North, And all happiness is lost. Many tears, many lives went by, As the monster showed it’s cruel side. Bewildered and frightened birds Closed in cages. Mankind experienced this for the first time how, A monster whose name can be COVID can take life. Many depressed, many scared, don’t know what to do. Just waiting, just waiting, just waiting, For happy days to come and pass by. Then again, a bright sun rose above, Making an hero to end this monster up. Then again, after a very very long time, Again on a day of bright sun, All happy and done. -Anjali Rai -Class - VIIIA

Power of positive thinking during COVID-19 By – Usmita Saikia Positive thinking is a mental and emotional attitude that focuses on the brighter side of life and produces positive results. A positive person can participate or compete with a healthy mind set and is always successful, happy and smiling but also helps in building skills. The COVID-19 pandemic is challenging us in ways we could never have imagined, from unprecedented amounts of family time to homeschooling to working remotely—or not working at all. These sudden, rapid changes in the way we live, coupled with uncertainty, can feel overwhelming. While we may know that it’s helpful for everyone to stay positive, it’s sometimes easier said than done. With COVID-19 causing widespread school closures, children across the country are being given alternate resources, some online, to study outside of the classroom. Temporary solutions being devised for remote education range from online classroom tools like Google Classroom, to Zoom and podcasts by teachers. While parents are adjusting to this new scenario, during this time it’s also important to help kids stay focused on learning and avoid overuse of games, social media, and videos. But we can still take control of our learning and keep up with classes by staying disciplined. A day in a kingdom as a princess I woke up when the rays of sunlight fell on me through the window of my room. As soon as I woke up, a maid came in to give me water and another maid came with a towel. I drank the water, took the towel and went to have my bath in my favorite bathtub, beautifully set up with roses all around. After the bath, I wore the saree. Two maids came to braid my hair. I was ready for that day. I went to the dining hall and greeted my father and mother before taking my seat to have the breakfast. Many servants started serving us the most delicious food I have ever tasted. I always sit near my mother to have some food from her. I love that food which she gives with her own hands. My father went to the court after talking with me for sometime. I had to go to attend the classes. I went to the teacher’s room and sat with my other friends. We learnt about the vedas today. We all enjoyed the lesson, participating in the discussions enthusiastically. Then after changing my outfit, I went to the ground where our teacher was waiting. We started a new martial art named ‘silambam’ originated from Tamil Nadu itself. I was eager to learn because it was of my land. The sun began to set. The red sun with the birds flying back to their home provided a beautiful scenery. After refreshing myself, I went to my parents room to talk with them. My father spoke about his day in the court and my mother spoke about her day. I sometimes want to live a day as a king like my father or as a queen as my mother but now I am just a princess. My parents adored me and almost never refused me anything for I am the only child born to them after ten years! That is why I am allowed to learn martial arts and war skills just as my male counterpart. I loved them a lot. We had our dinner and after receiving a sweet kiss from my parents, I went to my room to sleep. Before going to bed I wished to see the scenery of that tranquil night. I went to the balcony and saw the silhouette of a pair of birds sitting together on a tree branch. I always wondered about the beautiful relationship the animals shared. The nature is always the perennial source of joy, be it day or night. I went to sleep, thanking for the peaceful environment I have got. I woke up suddenly and then realized it was just a dream. I had a hearty laughter thinking of my dream as a princess in a kingdom of Tamil Nadu… P. SANJANA CLASS 10 B

Harry Potter – The magical world I discovered recently! Maadhav Awekar (5-A) Before reading Harry Potter series, I always thought that witches and wizards are almost every time bad. There are exceptions like Winnie-the-witch, who are good sometimes but mostly they are not the people you should be friends with. They have houses full of various cauldrons simmering different potions. Also, that to create a magic the only thing you say is “Abra-ka-Dabra” and boom! magic happens. But in Harry Potter series, the author J K Rowling, creates a wonderful world where I found the entire wizarding world is fascinating. There dragons are not evil animals but are enslaved. There are so many magical creatures like centaurs, gobblins, elves, unicorns, hippogriffs, trolls, giants, werewolves etc. All of them has a place along with magical people. There are places like Gringotts, Hogwarts, Hogsmeade, Godric’s Hollow wherein people live. Hogwarts is such a cool school, where the portraits can speak and ghosts play mischiefs. I love Peeves so much that I have memorized all his songs. Fred and George are my favorite characters because of their humor. Of course, I like Harry too. The most important thing about Harry that I adore is his belief in friendship, he loves his friends unconditionally and is always ready to do anything for his friends. What I did not like is Harry’s love of playing a Hero. But I liked his bravery. He has two wonderful best friends – Ron and Hermione! Hermione is my second favorite character. She is a bookworm and clever and certainly is a know-it-all. Ron is funny and smart, in spite of his fears or doubts, he helps Harry, he is standing with Harry at all times. My favorite teacher from Hogwarts is Albus Dumbledore because he gives people second chances. He believes that every person who is capable of loving, deserve to improve as a person. Also, sometimes I like Minerva McGonagall. She is an Animagus. Among all the defense against the dark arts teachers, I liked Remus Lupin the best, and I hated Gilderoy Lockhart. About the villain of the series – Voldemort, who-he-must-not-be- named, he sounded scary in the very first book (my favorite of the entire series) and he kept on being more and more scary for all the rest of the books. The concepts of Death eaters, Dementors, Horcruxes and Deathly hallows were very innovative, they make you feel all alone and fearful. Experiencing that while reading was very exciting. Thank God, my mother was reading the books with me. We watched the movies after we finished the books, but I liked the books more. They have discarded so many interesting things and people in the movies. I believe if everyone in our school reads Harry Potter, they will enjoy the experience as much as I did.
