Bill Rooke In excess of 150 people attended a Our wonderful ChoirLaurie Quinlan & Daisy Cumming very moving and beautiful service in the Club House to commemorate Paul Hickson John Nankervis Anzac Day this year. The service was conducted by June & Maurie Deans Lieutenant Commander, William Rooke, R.A.N. Retired, and he gave an Steve & Elaine Fankhauser with address with a naval theme centered Doug & Di Bonnick on the history of H.M.A.S. Sydney. This was followed by prayers and hymns significant to the day, and a poem by Banjo Paterson read by Laurie Quinlan was particularly moving. The service ended with the playing of The Last Post and one minute’s silence, after which Revellie and the singing of the Australian National Anthem ended proceedings before a Fly Past by the Victorian Aero Club. The choir sang beautifully and everyone enjoyed a sing-a-long of old wartime songs while the sausage sizzle got under way and the bar opened. There would be very few among our age group who did not have a family member on active service in some war. I can vividly recall the day my Dad came home after serving in the R.A.A.F. in New Guinea. I still have every letter he wrote me while he was away. The day he came home my Mother, my younger brother and me, all dressed in our very best, waited on Geelong Railway Station for his train to arrive, and we were suddenly swept up in a huge \"Bear hug\", (so much so that Mums hat was knocked off!), and my little brother was bewildered by a strange man he didn't remember picking him up and putting him on his shoulders. How blessed we are to live in this wonderful, peaceful country of ours. We can only hope that the sacrifices made for us keep our country the way it is for our grandchildren. Dinner Dance The Club House was the venue for a Dinner Dance on Saturday April 2nd with long, beautifully decorated tables set up for dinner. One Hundred and Twenty residents enjoyed a wonderful evening with delicious food and great entertainment from Phil Pitt and his alter egos, Neil Diamond and Elvis Presley.Bob & Bev Bruton and The dance floor was packed, as is Joy Curtis usual on these occasions and the Sandra Franks & Sue & Denis Graham Di Bonnick general consensus was that the Alan & Elaine Jones evening was one of the best ever! What a wonderful group of volunteers we have in this village. Thanks go to all those who helped with setting up the tables and with clearing up the next morning, and to the stalwarts behind the bar. Without these people none of these social events would be possible, so well done to you all.
