SPRING WORKSHOPS hosted via

M FALow-Residency Jon Henry, 2020 Arnold Newman Prize Winner and guest faculty member at the Fall 2021 MFA Retreat Are you ready for a three-year conversation about your work? Pursue your interests in photography, filmmaking, multimedia, book arts, and writing, as well as formats that cross genre boundaries in our unique low-residency MFA program in media arts: the ultimate capstone for those who are serious about their art. Two, five-day MFA retreats are held each year on Maine Media’s campus, during which students meet with faculty for critiques of projects, discussions covering topics in visual culture, planning of projects for the upcoming semester, and assessment of their progress in the program. Guest faculty, including artists, educators, critics and historians, make presentations to the group. Between retreats, students work with faculty and other approved mentors to complete studio and academic projects. FINANCING & SELLING A FILM (Online) Saturday, MAR 26 @ 1:00–4:30 ET Film industry veteran Jonathan Dana has steered many films to successful financing and distribution outcomes. His credits include classic independent features, mainstream films, and feature-length documentaries. In this half-day workshop, Jonathan will explore the pathways to getting a film financed and/or sold for distribution. Whether you are in the early stages of planning a project or have a finished film, this workshop will show you the options for how to move your film forward. Jonathan Dana recently executive produced The Ice Road (2021), starring Liam Neeson, which sold to Netflix in the U.S. for a record $18 million and premiered as the number one show across the platform. He also executive produced the 2021 feature documentary Hallelujah: Leonard Cohen, a Life, a Song, to be released in 2022 by Sony Pictures Classics. His films have won numerous awards at Sundance and Cannes. WORKING WITH AGENTS & MANAGERS (Online) Saturday, APR 9 @ 1:00–4:30 ET Rick Berg represents many accomplished writers, directors and producers. In this half-day workshop, Rick will discuss how to get an agent or manager, how their roles differ, the dynamics of pitching to producers, studios and networks, how and when to connect talent to a package to increase its market desirabili- ty, how deals are negotiated and structured, and much more. Learn to navigate changing dynamics of a complicated marketplace, and work with representatives to get your work sold and produced. Rick Berg is a founding partner of Code Entertainment, a Beverly Hills management and production company.
