WHAT IS A CONTINENT? (form)A continent is a large solid area of land. Earth has seven continents.In order from largest to smallest, they are Asia, Africa, NorthAmerica, South America, Antarctica, Europe, and Australia.In each continent we find different kind of countries, different languages andculture and resources.CONTINENT IMPORTANT FACTS Largest continent in both land mass and population. More than 3.2 billion people live there. Includes 55 countries. The Great Wall of China is there. The greatest elevation on earth is at the top of Mt. Everest - 29,035 feet above sea level. 2nd smallest continent. Has the world's largest country; Russia, and the world's smallest country; Vatican. Includes 50 countries.

Some important facts about the continents: There is really only one World Ocean; for convenience, most geographers divide it into four: Atlantic, Pacific, Arctic, and Indian. The richest country is Qatar located in Asia. The other richest countries are Luxembourg and Singapore. The poorest countries are Malawi, Burundi and Central African Republic. Africa is considered the continent with the poorest countries in the world. At last count, there are 193 independent countries. The subtropical Sahara is the largest hot desert at 3.5 million square miles.
