nursing re ective story project A nurse’s story M. Marsh Princess Nora University CON 104:Concept Of Nursing DR. Wafaa Hassan nursing reflective story project lf

A nurse’s story She is a Saudi woman who works in the field of nursing , She told us about her story and her journey in the field of nursing. She began by saying \"nursing is a difficult profession It's a big term when you say nursing, it includes everything , Nursing used to be just a job for me , A job that gives me money to live in my daily life” And when she started her first year, she noticed her interaction with people, especially elderly women. “When I saved them and helped them, I saw the love people had for me they showed their love by saying “We don’t want anyone to help us except this nurse.” She explained that This reaction made her emotional and gave her inner peace. She mentioned that sometimes she stays at her job even when the work shift ends because she knows that some patients need help in every small normal thing or only need emotional support in general,So her relationship with her work as a nurse has become stronger. For her the Nursing as a career was not her first choice when We asked her why she replied “To be honest after I got my degree I immediately was thinking of applying for a doctor's degree and continuing my studies to become a physician. 1

It was available at King Saud bin Abdulaziz University for Health Sciences (KSAU-HS). But after this experience that changed my life, the opportunity to support people in a time of sadness and need , I realised that this is a blessing.“ The lack of awareness in the society about the nursing profession made her feel that it has no value , This is because of the profession’s bad reputation. It even made her reconsider choosing the nursing as a career she explains” People always told me “when you become a nurse, they will call you if anything happens and also you will deal with every wrong thing with the patients ” and she was convinced at one point. But then she realised that people will always try and find a way to criticize. We was curious about what would draw her into the profession or college of nursing and she replied \"I worked here in the military hospital then I worked in Australia [she applied culture care diversity theory] , and then I worked here at PNU So it's different rules but what I love the most is that I keep improving what I'm doing , so there are no criteria to stop or a high standard to meet you have to continue the improvement and that is exactly why flexibility and improvement When we ask ourselves about What do we learn from this course that influenced our view of nursing either in a negative or positive way Most of the girls chose nursing out of love almost everyone but one girl who’s still learning to love it as a passion before a job. 2

We mostly focused on the positive things that we’ve learned through this course like to be helpful to any kind of people no matter what hes/her color, religion, age or personality and even to provide complete medical care to the patient and The ability to work with the medical team but one of us has explained it in the best way she said “I learned from this nursing course many theories, therapeutic relationships, clinical treatments and the basics of the nursing profession.” On the other side some girls talked about the negatives like wrong idea society has of nursing also how the job would be affecting your mental health and how it’s physically exhausting. And here’s a quoted saying from our team member that I think describes us as a whole college and as students she said “ I used to tell myself that this is my destiny, I am learning, so there is nothing wrong with some pitfalls and mistakes I will correct my mistakes and get through all of this but I have to be patient and try again.” we also asked if she makes an interview with the nursing faculty or any member involved in nursing and she said” yes , we always do interviews and our standard is knowledge and skills and experience”, there are two different types of nursing for ICU or emergency nurse and on the other hand, academically someone who loves to teach, so she is always looking for teaching strategies and how to improve the courses, and this is the reason why nursing uses both sides academically and clinically at the same time. the clinical part is the most important because teaching without the clinical part will affect you in the long run [she applied the transpersonal caring / caring science theory] , and every nurse I worked with or even in college I learned from her especially when her specialty different from your major.” 3

We also asked her how what was she feeling while handling her first official patient she answered “ I was felt like fear is all over my body, I literally couldn’t hear a thing just heard my own heartbeat”. and of course there is a situation that any nurse never forgets so she told us about two stories that she would never forget she said \"There was an old woman with a broken hip and she didn't let anyone touch her except me because I was careful and delicate with her , sometimes they call me at 4 or 5 in the morning, it's not my duty, it's not my shift but because she has Trust only in me, I went to the hospital for her everyday \"[she applied goal attainment theory] She then continued” I remember another patient that was infected with HIV through a blood transfusion by medical mistake , this condition affected me and made me realise that there are many more important aspects of medication because it is possible for the patient to come and be hospitalised and getting the medication without getting better physically because of his mental illness .this patient has taught me that not only the health of the patient is important and finishing the doses of the medicine but connecting with the patient mentally to make him better physically is the most important thing and not just to give him medication and let him go.” 4

In conclusion, we feel that nurses education has shaped us life to what is today and these courses listed have gave us a better understanding about medical issues happening in this world. Health care profession is not a relaxing profession but demanding and stressful occupation, yet we are ready to face the various situations we may be in and become stronger and wiser in our profession and as a person. It is also a profession where every day we guaranteed to touch a life or be touched by the lives of others. Letters, Arts, and Sciences will help us reach our goals after our undergraduate education is complete. The references • CONCEPT OF NURSING BOOK. • INTERNET. • THE NURSE.
