AN INNOVATIVE MATERIAL FOR DIE CASTING, TOOLING, AND ALUMINUM PERMANENT MOLD LOWER OPERATING COST COMPARED TO H-13 TOOL STEEL Anviloy 1150 is a tungsten-based material that was developed primarily for die-casting, ® aluminum permanent mold, and difficult extrusions. Anviloy has a low coefficient of thermal expansion, good thermal conductivity and good material properties at elevated temperatures combine for superior performance in a variety of applications. This unusual combination of properties results in less thermal fatigue and soldering in the die cast or extrusion. ® ANVILOY has been TRUSTED by the Die Casting Industry for years and is once again AVAILABLE from Astaras, Inc. ® We have purchased the Anviloy Business from the former industry leader CMW International. We currently have stock and are ready to ship. Astaras, Inc. www.anviloy.com 6901 Bryan Dairy Road Suite 160 727-546-9600 Largo, FL 33777 [email protected] 7

Web Address: www.diecasting.org The History and Formation of North American Die Casting Association Founded January 1, 1989, NADCA is a combination of two long-standing organizations serving the die casting industry: the American Die Casting Institute, which was founded in New York in 1928, and the Society of Die Casting Engineers, which started in Detroit in 1954. ADCI was a trade association, originally representing custom die casters, then expanded to include captive die casters and industry suppliers as well. It developed the first die casting statistical services for members in 1930, and developed die casting product specifications. It also worked to improve manu- facturing methods and the die casting plant environment. Its work helped introduce improved molten metal handling methods and aided the development of fire resistant hydraulic fluids. In 1952, ADCI formed the Die Casting Research Foundation, which over the years funded university research in the areas of die steels, die lubrication, vacuum die casting, and alloy development. As ADCI grew it relocated from New York to Des Plaines, IL, and continued to revise and expand product guide- lines, to promote the use of die castings, and to publish a library of technical and management informa- tion. SDCE was an engineering society for improving education for, and dissemination of technical infor- mation to, the industry. It left Detroit at the end of 1979 and settled in Des Plaines, IL. SDCE relocated to the campus of Triton College in River Grove, IL at the start of 1982. In addition to publishing Die Casting Engineer magazine (bimonthly since 1957), SDCE had a long history of publishing text and ref- erence books, and of presenting educational courses and programs. Manuals and courses focused on die casting machine operation, dimensional repeatability, heat flow, gating, metallurgy, process control, maintenance, die design, metal melting and handling, and cost estimating, among others. SDCE’s pro- duction of a computer gating software program was an industry milestone. Worldwide study tours to plants and conferences in various countries were another popular program. The International Die Casting Congress and Exposition, a biennial event since 1960, quickly became the world’s leading forum for die casting technical presentations and equipment displays. The need for a more powerful and unified organization to meet increased competition and provide broader services to the industry led to the consolidation of the two associations. The consolidation of ADCI and SDCE to form the North American Die Casting Association (NADCA) became effective on January 1, 1989. Headquarters remained at Triton College until the move to the nearby suburb of 16 Rosemont, IL, early in 1992. 14 Reprinted by permission of NADCA. 14 17
