Sable Phillippi, R.N., B.S.N. ‘14 ALUM, HOLMAN CIRCLE “I graduated from the nursing program and served as a Social Change Coordinator for CU’s Office of Service Leadership for two years. The nursing program is why I applied to CU, but service leadership is why I stayed at CU. I honestly wouldn’t have been able to continue at CU if it wasn’t for scholarship donations. Student loans only paid for half of my tuition - it wasscholarships that covered the rest and allowed me to continue my service leadership growth at CU. There’s nodonation too small, as it was a $50 donation that helped me purchase my stethoscope for nursing clinicals. After I graduated and started working as a licensed RN, I didn’t hesitate to give back to CU by donating toboth the nursing program and the Governor Victor Atiyeh Scholarship fund. Without their scholarshipsupport, I wouldn’t be the nurse and the servant leader that I am today.”

GREETINGS Better Together Greetings and blessings to you from the Concordia University community! We are better together. As the Concordia University community – from students and faculty to donors and neighbors – we are better together, in collaboration, seeking to bear witness to our Christian mission of preparing leaders for the transformation of society. This mission is made stronger still in the manifestation of our Vision 2024, a process guided by our Chief Vision Officer and inclusive of faculty, staff, students and community partners. This vision provides us with an intentional path forward for fulfillment of our mission, including ten specific goals and eight initiatives. Thank you for joining us on this journey at www.cu-portland.edu/vision. We are fortunate to serve an increasing number of students worldwide in new and exciting ways as we seek to live and bear witness to Christ and our mission of preparing leaders for the transformation of society. Fiscal Year 2015 was another year of progress toward our Vision 2024: – We welcomed a record number of students, continuing Concordia’s ranking as the nation’s 7th fastest growing private university, #1 private university in Oregon, and largest and fastest growing within the Concordia University System. – One of our strategic initiatives is making great strides. 3 to PhD® is a new national model for education to create safer, healthier, more educated communities. Concordia is raising $15 million toward a new College of Education building co-located with Faubion School preK-8. Learn more at www.3toPhD.org or read about it in our next Concordia Connection magazine. – Our law program in Boise earned ABA provisional accreditation, and our nursing program earned national accreditation. – We were recognized for the sixth consecutive year by the Corporation for National & Community Service as a member of The President’s Community Service Honor Roll. We celebrate these and all the great blessings of this past year, and look forward to the next. Thank you for your generous support of Concordia, its mission and its students – we give thanks to God for you and we look forward to another year of transformation!Charles E. There are a lot ofplaces to donate, but I chose to give to Concordia because I think the university serves the community inpositive ways. Also, financial help can lighten the load of responsibility on students. I would encouragepotential donors to look at the recent growth of the school and the increase of both full- and part-timestudents. Also consider its outreach to neighborhood schools. I am the first person in my family to attend college. Nobody in my family knew anything about college, how to apply, how to get recruited, how to apply for scholarships. I chose Concordia because I wantedto play volleyball and I wanted to stay close to my hometown of Gresham. I loved that Concordia wassmall and had small class sizes. But, if it weren’t for receiving scholarships, I would not have had theprivilege of attending. The generosity of donors helps in more ways than they could ever know. There are many other studentsbesides me that wouldn’t be where we are today if it hadn’t been for them. Everyone deserves achance to go to college and I was fortunate enough to attend – with few with student loans – thanksto Concordia’s donors. I am so grateful. – Shantel Gritsch, Business Major, Mathematics Minor, Class of 2016 23

Ryan And Jenny McIvor WEBER CIRCLE Both of us work for Lutheran Church Missouri Synod entities. Concordia aligns with our own value system extremely well – both from an educational and spiritual standpoint. The progress the school has made in developing its physical plant is matched by the work being done to develop new ways of educating our youth. Having had the opportunity to get to know the school and its leadership over the years, it is easy to want to be a small part of the journey. Concordia University, aside from providing a first rate educational environment, creates a full life experience through the college journey – taking a progressive approach to 21st century education with a continual grounding from traditional Christian education, ethics and ethos. The opportunities to grow are boundless for the student who takes the challenge. For the supporters of Concordia, it takes an equally strong commitment to do everything in our power to ensure every student has the opportunity to experience college education at its finest.Did you know? Concordia students are actively involved with causes ranging from Habitat forHumanity, MLK Day of Service, and the Oregon Food Bank to Special Olympics and teaching childrenwith disabilities how to ride a bike.
