Opening Prayer *Call to Worship Leader: The day of the Lord brings grace and blessings; People: We come to this day with hearts prepared for praising. Leader: The day of the Lord brings wisdom and light; People: We come to this day with minds eager to listen for God’s will. Leader: The day of the Lord brings worship;

People: The day of the Lord brings joy and gladness as they dance together for we shall see the glory of God. * Opening Hymn UMH#229 “Infant Holy, Infant Lowly” Infant holy, infant lowly, for his bed a cattle stall; oxen lowing, little knowing, Christ the babe is Lord of all. Swift are winging angels singing, noels ringing, tidings bringing: Christ the babe is Lord of all. Flocks were sleeping, shepherds keeping vigil till the morning new saw the glory, heard the story, tidings of a gospel true. Thus rejoicing, free from sorrow, praises voicing, greet the morrow: Christ the babe was born for you. Lighting of the Advent Candle The Candle of Joy The Stange Family

Hymn “Light the Advent Candle” TFWS#2090 Light the Advent candle, three: Think of heavenly harmony; angels singing \"\"Peace on earth\"\" at the blessed Savior's birth. Candle, candle, burning bright, shining in the cold winter night; candle, candle, burning bright, fill our hearts with Christmas light. Children’s Time Old Testament Reading Zephaniah 3:14-20 Sing, Daughter Zion; shout aloud, Israel! Be glad and rejoice with all your heart,

Daughter Jerusalem! The Lord has taken away your punishment, he has turned back your enemy. The LORD, the King of Israel, is with you; never again will you fear any harm. On that day they will say to Jerusalem, “Do not fear, Zion; do not let your hands hang limp. The LORD your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves. He will take great delight in you; in his love he will no longer rebuke you, but will rejoice over you with singing.” “I will remove from you all who mourn over the loss of your appointed festivals, which is a burden and reproach for you. At that time I will deal with all who oppressed you. I will rescue the lame; I will gather the exiles. I will give them praise and honor in every land where they have suffered shame. At that time I will gather you; at that time I will bring you home. I will give you honor and praise among all the peoples of the earth when I restore your fortunes[e]

before your very eyes,” says the Lord. Special Music Carol Hess Gospel Reading Luke 2:1-14 In those days Caesar Augustus issued a decree that a census should be taken of the entire Roman world. (This was the first census that took place while Quirinius was governor of Syria.) And everyone went to their own town to register. So Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem the town of David, because he belonged to the house and line of David. He went there to register with Mary, who was pledged to be married to him and was expecting a child. While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born, and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no guest room available for them. And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to

them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.” Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying, “Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.” Leader: The Word of God for the people of God. People: Thanks be to God. Message MERRY CHRISTMAS Sunday School *Hymn of Response UMH#234 “O Come, All Ye Faithful (v 1-4)” O come all ye faithful, joyful and triumphant, O come ye, O come ye, to Bethlehem. For us, Advent is a time of waiting, and so we wait. We wait for the coming of the One who is the fulfillment of God’s promise, the fulfillment of hope, the declaration that we have been redeemed. Because we are an Advent people, we know that God’s love will reign forevermore. The Holy One is coming, to make righteous once again all that was, is, and ever will be. And in our waiting and our hoping, we work and worship, pray and play, in all things hoping that peace and joy will govern our lives and our world into eternity.
