Moscow United Methodist Church June 18, 2023 Father’s Day Sunday 10:00 a.m. GOD’S PEOPLE GATHER Gathering Prelude “The Lost Chord” Jeff Nebraski by Sir Arthur Sullivan Ringing of the Church Bells Parish Notes

Invocation *Call To Worship Leader: Sing to the Lord a new song, a song of hope and thanksgiving; People: Praise God for wonderful acts of mercy and kindness. Leader: God has remembered the promise of old, life springs eternal; People: God has poured abundant blessings upon us. Leader: Praise the Lord, all the earth; People: Rejoice, for the Lord is among us. *Opening Hymn “Faith of Our Fathers” UMH#710 Faith of our fathers, living still, in spite of dungeon, fire, and sword; O how our hearts beat high with joy whene'er we hear that glorious word! Faith of our fathers, holy faith! We will be true to thee till death. Faith of our fathers, we will strive to win all nations unto thee; and through the truth that comes from God, we all shall then be truly free.

Faith of our fathers, holy faith! We will be true to thee till death. Faith of our fathers, we will love both friend and foe in all our strife; and preach thee, too, as love knows how by kindly words and virtuous life. Faith of our fathers, holy faith! We will be true to thee till death. Children’s Chat GOD’S WORD PROCLAIMED Prayer for Illumination: (in unison) O God, as we turn to your Word for us, may the Spirit of the Living Lord rest upon us. Help us to be steadfast in our listening, in our speaking, in our believing, and in our living. Amen. Epistle Reading Romans 5:1-5 Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ,

through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we boast in the hope of the glory of God. Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us. Special Music “Come Holy Spirit” Jeff Nebraski By William Gaithers Gospel Reading John 14:15-26 “If you love me, keep my commands. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever— the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you. I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you. Before long, the world will not see me anymore, but you will see me. Because I live, you also will live. On that day you will realize that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you. Whoever has my commands and keeps them is the one who loves

me. The one who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love them and show myself to them.” Then Judas (not Judas Iscariot) said, “But, Lord, why do you intend to show yourself to us and not to the world?” Jesus replied, “Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them. Anyone who does not love me will not obey my teaching. These words you hear are not my own; they belong to the Father who sent me. “All this I have spoken while still with you. But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you. Leader: The word of God for the people of God. People: Thanks be to God. Message Pastor Lori Robinson Nothing But The Best

GOD’S PEOPLE RESPOND *Hymn of Response “To God Be the Glory”UMH#98 To God be the glory, great things he hath done! So loved he the world that he gave us his Son, who yielded his life an atonement for sin, and opened the life-gate that all may go in. Praise the Lord, praise the Lord, let the earth hear his voice! Praise the Lord, praise the Lord, let the people rejoice! O come to the Father thru Jesus the Son, and give him the glory, great things he hath done! O perfect redemption, the purchase of blood, to every believer the promise of God; the vilest offender who truly believes, that moment from Jesus a pardon receives. Praise the Lord, praise the Lord, let the earth hear his voice! Praise the Lord, praise the Lord, let the people rejoice! O come to the Father thru Jesus the Son, and give him the glory, great things he hath done!

Great things he hath taught us, great things he hath done, and great our rejoicing thru Jesus the Son; but purer, and higher, and greater will be our wonder, our transport, when Jesus we see. Praise the Lord, praise the Lord, let the earth hear his voice! Praise the Lord, praise the Lord, let the people rejoice! O come to the Father thru Jesus the Son, and give him the glory, great things he hath done! Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day, our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen. Reception of the Tithes and Offerings *Doxology UMH#94 *Offertory Prayer (in unison) Lord of all Life, as we offer our gifts to you this morning, we remember how dependent we are on your grace and mercy for every

good and helpful thing in our lives. We affirm our trust in you through our giving. As your church, we dedicate these offerings and our lives, that we might not only move steadfast in your guidance but also lead others toward Jesus, our Rock and our Redeemer. Amen. GOD’S PEOPLE ARE SENT FORTH *Hymn of Sending Forth UMH#144 “This Is My Father’s World” This is my Father's world, and to my listening ears all nature sings, and round me rings the music of the spheres. This is my Father's world: I rest me in the thought of rocks and trees, of skies and seas; his hand the wonders wrought. This is my Father's world, the birds their carols raise, the morning light, the lily white, declare their maker's praise. This is my Father's world: he shines in all that's fair; in the rustling grass I hear him pass;

he speaks to me everywhere. This is my Father's world. O let me ne'er forget that though the wrong seems oft so strong, God is the ruler yet. This is my Father's world: why should my heart be sad? The Lord is King; let the heavens ring! God reigns; let the earth be glad! *Benediction *Choral Benediction UMH#92 “For the Beauty of the Earth” (v1,4) For the beauty of the earth, for the glory of the skies, for the love which from our birth over and around us lies; Lord of all, to thee we raise this our hymn of grateful praise. For the joy of human love, brother, sister, parent, child, friends on earth and friends above,

for all gentle thoughts and mild; Lord of all, to thee we raise this our hymn of grateful praise. *Postlude “Joyful Joyful we adore thee” Jeff Nebraski By Ludwig Van Beethoven * Invites the congregation to stand if able.
