July 10, 2022 10:00 a.m. Fifth Sunday of Pentecost GOD’S PEOPLE GATHER Gathering Prelude Lord, I Want to Be a Christian Spiritual, Arranged by Gordon Young Ringing of the Church Bells Parish Notes Invocation *Call To Worship Leader: Jesus calls us to praise and prayer, to song and silence; People: Jesus calls us to worship. Leader: Jesus calls us to hearing and healing, to service and solidarity; People: Jesus calls us to love.
Leader: Jesus calls us to encouragement and engagement to affirmation and assurance; People: Jesus calls us to peace. All: Let us heed the call of Christ. Let us worship together with joy. *Opening Hymn TFWS #2128 “Come and Find the Quiet Center” Come and find the quiet center in the crowded life we lead, find the room for hope to enter, find the frame where we are freed: Clear the chaos and the clutter, clear our eyes, that we can see all the things that really matter, be at peace, and simply be. Silence is a friend who claims us, cools the heat and slows the pace, God it is who speaks and names us,
knows our being, touches base, making space within our thinking, lifting shades to show the sun, raising courage when we're shrinking, finding scope for faith begun. In the Spirit let us travel, open to each other's pain, let our loves and fears unravel, celebrate the space we gain: there's a place for deepest dreaming, there's a time for heart to care, in the Spirit's lively scheming there is always room to spare! Children’s Chat GOD’S WORD PROCLAIMED Prayer for Illumination: Lord, by your Word you give light to the soul. Pour on us the spirit of wisdom and
understanding that our hearts and minds may be opened to receive your guiding revelations. Amen. Epistle Reading Revelation 3:14-22 “To the angel of the church in Laodicea write: These are the words of the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the ruler of God’s creation. I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other! So, because you are lukewarm— neither hot nor cold—I am about to spit you out of my mouth. You say, ‘I am rich; I have acquired wealth and do not need a thing.’ But you do not realize that you are wretched, pitiful, poor, blind and naked. I counsel you to buy from me gold refined in the fire, so you can become rich; and white clothes to wear, so you can cover your shameful nakedness; and salve to put on your eyes, so you can see. Those whom I love I rebuke and discipline. So be earnest and repent. Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me. To the one who is victorious, I will give the right to sit with me on my throne, just as I was victorious and
sat down with my Father on his throne. Whoever has ears, let them hear what the Spirit says to the churches.” Special Music Carol Hess “O Jesus, I Have Promised” Arthur H. Mann, John E. Bode Arranged by Melissa Blanton Gospel Reading John 11:17-26 On his arrival, Jesus found that Lazarus had already been in the tomb for four days. Now Bethany was less than two miles from Jerusalem, and many Jews had come to Martha and Mary to comfort them in the loss of their brother. When Martha heard that Jesus was coming, she went out to meet him, but Mary stayed at home. “Lord,” Martha said to Jesus, “if you had been here, my brother would not have died. But I know that even now God will give you whatever you ask.” Jesus said to her, “Your brother will rise again.” Martha answered, “I know he will rise again in the resurrection at the last day.” Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though
they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die. Do you believe this?” Leader: The word of God for the people of God. People: Thanks be to God.
