Elementary School Vladimir Nazor Budinščina, Croatia Good Health & Social Discrimination - Short Story Budinščina, Croatia Teacher: Ana Bahat Written by: Petra, Jakov, Mihael Illustrated by: Petra Olivia's Short Story Part 1 It all started when I moved to a new city, and started a new school. I was the only one at school in a wheelchair. Anyone who is a new student at school knows how difficult it is. Most of them didn’t want to communicate with me, they avoided me, and there were those like Joan and Andrew who made jokes about me every day thinking I didn’t see them. Ana Bahat

It got worse and worse every day, but I didn't tell anyone, neither parents nor teachers. My education was affected as I wouldn't go to school and claim I was sick. I tried to hide what was happening to me for so long as I didn't want my parents to worry. I started retreating into myself and had become quieter. It had been going on for two months and my mother and teacher were getting curious as why I was missing school. So, I told my mum. She helped me and talked to my teachers. I gathered my strength and went to school again. Meanwhile, while I was absent from class, a new student, Abigail, arrived in our class. She was the first person to want to hang out with me. Abigail has blonde hair and blue eyes, she is very kind and loves to read comics. Over time, we became best friends.

Şehit Doğan Sevinç Secondary School, Türkiye Good Health & Social Discrimination - Short Story Teacher: Bilge Yılmaztekin Illustrated by : Kağan Written by Nazlı Gözde Olivia's Short Story Part 2 We were helping each other with our homework and spending time together doing our favourite activities.Though I was in a wheelchair , I never give up doing sports. I used to swim at my previous school and was also a member of sports club. Abigail told me that this new school also had a swimming pool even a bigger, an olympic one. We went to the school manager together and talked about this new situation. After we learnt that it was possible, we both were very happy. We started training twice a week. Bilge Yılmaztekin

It was both fun and healthy. Abigail was always supporting and encouraging me to join races. Our coach also told me that I could join as I was very hardworking and ambitious.Next week I applied for the race and got the first place with a gold medal. It was great to achieve it! Everybody at school was clapping their hands at the same time crying my name with joy even Joan and Andrew ! Can you imagine ! I was so happy and proud !

MARIANA’S VICTORY One school decided to organize a physical fitness contest which included: push-ups, sit-ups, long jump, and, finally, a 1200m trail run. The two young people who reach the end of the challenges would win a scholarship for a sports academy, the best in their city. At first it was prepared to be a challenge just for boys, but then one of the teachers convinced the organization, that it should be open to everyone, and girls were able to take part as well. The young people were slowly applying for the contest, then the contest day came and there were 30 students participating - 16 on the boys’ group and 14 on the girls’ group. Everyone starter great on the first challenge, the push-ups, then on the sit-ups 2 boys and 2 girls have quitted, on the long jump half of them didn't pass. There was one last challange, the trail run. From those who were still for the podium, 15 left the competition and only 5 of them remained and finished the race. The first one from the girls’ team was Mariana and the first on the boys’ team John. They both received their deserved prizes, not just the scholarship but some extra gifts and awards. The girl then noticed she had less things involved on the final prize. She was happy about winning but she felt it was unfair what she has received when comparing to John’s. So she asked the teacher:

“Teacher, why do I have less things then, John? We both finished first and he has a 300 euro€ gift card from a sports store” said Mariana angrily and with some tears falling from her face. “Oh, that's just how it works! Boys usually get a bigger reward than girls. But don’t complain! You still get a 20euros €gift card from a book store and a free basketball ball!” said the teacher. “But that is not fair!” replied Mariana. “He gets more for something we have both achieved, more for the same result!” The teacher continued justifying the difference in between boys and girls and answered her in a kind of impatient mood “Mariana, don't say that! You have your prize that's and is how it works! Besides you have the scholarship, and this was just an extra”. Mariana couldn’t accept it as an answer and insisted “This is so not fair, just because I am a girl it doesn't mean I should be recognized differently for the same task and for the same result”.

Gender Equity and Inclusion School: Kuyubaşı Şehit Oğuzhan Duyar Secondary School Teacher: Birsen Tanrıkulu Students: Toprak, Naz, Merve, Nil, Naz, Eren, Rüzgar, Eren, Ecem, Ekrem, Eyüp Short Story Part 2 Birsen Tanrıkulu

Mariana’s friends were watching the event in deep sorrow. They called Mariana to talk about the issue, told her to be calm and showed their empathy to her. Then, they gathered in the school canteen and decided to organise a demonstration. They prepared posters about gender equality. The next day, they came together in front of the school and started to hold their posters and shouted, ‘ WE WANT GENDER EQUALITY, ALL WE NEED IS GENDERS EQUALITY!’ etc. The teachers and students were watching them from the windows.

The teacher who told Mariana to accept the situation she was exposed to the day before was among the spectators. She went next to the children and told Mariana, ' Dear Mariana, you were right yesterday. But I Just didn't want to interrupt that happiness atmosphere. But I didn't notice it deeply hurt you. I am so sorry and I will recover this situation. Then, the teacher made some phone calls with the supporters of the contest and explained the situation. An hour later, the school headmaster called Mariana to his room, congratulated her for the behaviour she exhibited. 'You are a real heroine dear Mariana. With this behaviour, you not only have got your due but also become an excellent symbol of equality in our school and inspired the whole school community.' he told and gave her a 500€ gift card from a sports store. But Mariana didn't accept this gift card as it is not 300€ which is equal to John's gift card. So the school headmaster talked to the sports store and they presented a 300€ gift card to Mariana.

EARTH DAY Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.

Peter was quite a lazy boy. He hated school and all the school subjects. He only loved playing computer games. His mum was sad because he got bad marks. \"I don’t have to study hard because I won’t need it for my life” he said. One day, Peter fell down at the school playground, hit his head and he was unconscious for a while. Patrick, a very clever boy, ran to him very quickly and gave him first aid. Soon the rescuers arrived and took Peter to the hospital. Later, when Peter came back to school he thanked Patrick for help. “How did you know what to do?” he asked him. “I love biology, it is a really interesting subject” answered Patrick, “one day I’d like to be a doctor and help people. What do you want to do when you grow up?” Peter thought a minute but he couldn’t answer this question. He was ashamed because he had poor knowledge of all subjects. Patrick saw it and offered him help again. They became friends and started to study together after school. His teachers were surprised and helped him a lot, too. Gradually Peter started improving at school. He realised that the world is a beautiful and interesting place worth exploring.

Now Peter knows what he wants to do in the future. He would like to work in a nature reserve and take care of animals that are getting extinct. However, he must study hard to achieve this goal.

Recently Peter has been producing medicines to save endangered animals. At the end of the production process, he gives the medicines to the animals. However, he failed to prevent animal deaths. The Greenhouse Effect & Ecological Footprint Anna Jaloszewska, Poland & Buket Göze, Turkey cHAPTER 4 #SAVEWATER 22 MARCH

The Greenhouse Effect & Ecological Footprint Pierwsza Społeczna Szkoła Podstawowa w Gdyni, Gdynia, Poland Teacher: Anna Jałoszewska Written and illustrated by Max, Ignacy, Wojtek, Leon, Zosia, Marta, Ewa, Maja, Emilie, Xawery, Anastazja and Weronika Short Story Part 1 One day the Earth visited Marta’s class The Erath was extremely upset as her future was endangered. She came to encourage children to make a difference and take up some actions in order to help her. Children were so moved and worried and wanted to learn what’s the reason of her sadness. They sat comfortably around their guest and listened to her explaining what the greenhouse effect is. They learned it is a process that occurs when gases in Earth's atmosphere trap the Sun's heat. This process makes Earth much warmer than it would be without an atmosphere. It makes the Earth a comfortable place to live on. Anna Jałoszewska

“It’s amazing” – children were excited. So why are you worried? The Earth answered sadly: “Unfortunately human activities are changing Earth's natural greenhouse effect. Whenever people drive cars or operate factories they burn coal, oil, and other fossil fuels. This adds extra greenhouse gases to the air, and the extra gases cause Earth's atmosphere to trap more and more heat. This causes Earth to warm up dangerously “ “Do we also do anything wrong and harmful?” – students asked As all of us need transportation, electricity, food, clothing, and other goods we use energy which results in generating \"carbon footprints\". It is the amount of carbon dioxide released into the air because of your own energy needs.

How can we reduce our \"carbon footprints\" and stop climate changes? – children asked curiously

Crows have the ability to collect the surrounding objects in their nests. Lulu also liked to collect shiny, colorful items in front of her. Sometimes, even if she was not strong enough, she would take them to her nest with a thousand hardships and look at them with pride for days. One day, while flying through the forest, she sees and rejoices that people who have a picnic there have left a lot of things behind. For days, one by one, she carries these things to her nest. Suddenly she realizes that she no longer has a place in the nest. Things have multiplied so much that they no longer fit in the nest.

So she decides to empty the nest and starts throwing things out of the nest. When she looked up, she saw that everything was dirty with garbage. In addition, the wind blew some items into the river.

Lulu started to looking for another place to live in peace. She flew and flew over the mountains and across the seas but she noticed something went wrong. Wherever she stopped to look around, she saw nothing was same as in the past. For example, when she stopped to have a rest in Antarctica she noticed there was nowhere for penguins anymore, actually there wasn’t any penguins living there too, everywhere was only the land without ice.

Later she went to one of her favorite places, Madagascar. There she used to collect various enchanting feathers, Stones, scales in her past travels. She was shocked because all of the forest burnt and there was no single evidence about the species which were living there in past. There were only the ashes of the trees. Lulu felt terrible, she cried and cried all the way. Once there she met thousands of friends, but now it was like a haunted village.

Then she continued her sorrowful journey to the Sardinia where she used to visit in spring time. Again, she was astonished by what she saw there, all the island was under the waters, she saw only one coconut tree and a small land. She turned back to her country; it was a real grief for her to see what happened to everywhere. She decided to collect all of the dirt around the river. She built a beautiful nest again, decided to keep her habitat clean and sustain its future.
