POLLUTION Pollution is the introduction of harmful materials into the environment. These harmful materials are called pollutants. Pollutants can be natural, such a s volcanic ash. They can also be created by human activity, such as trash or runoff produced by factories. Pollutants damage the quality of air, water, and land.

Many things that are useful to people produce pollution. Cars spew pollutants from their exhaust pipes. Burning coal to create electricity pollutes the air. Industries and homes generate garbage and sewage that can pollute the land and water. Pesticides— chemical poisons used to kill weeds and insects—seep into waterways and harm wildlife.

DROUGHT A drought is a period of time when an area or region experiences below-normal precipitation. The lack of adequate precipitation, either rain or snow, can cause reduced soil moisture or groundwater, diminished stream flow, crop damage, and a general water shortage. Droughts are the second-most costly weather events after hurricanes.

Unlike with sudden weather events such as hurricanes, tornadoes, and thunderstorms, it is often difficult to pinpoint when a drought has started or when it has ended. The initial effects of a drought may be difficult to identify right away, so it may take weeks or months to determine that a drought has started. The end of a drought is hard to identify for the same reason. A drought may last for weeks, months, or even years.

People are starting to come around to the idea that we need to become more sustainable to protect the Earth for future generations.Everything you do in your day-to-day life has an impact on the planet, from the food you eat to the car you drive.

This doesn't mean you should only eat vegetables and start riding a bike everywhere. Although, you could try consuming less meat and only driving when necessary. It's small changes like these which could help you to lessen your environmental impact.

The 17 Sustainable Development Goals The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), also known as Global Goals, are a set of 17 integrated and interrelated goals to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure that humanity enjoys peace and prosperity by 2030. Reporting on the SDGs is important in communicating to stakeholders the company's commitment to contributing to the Global Goals; claiming accountability and responsibility to take the necessary actions; and measuring progress over time.
