October Mini Medics 25th, 26th & 27th We ran a series of Mini Medics Courses in the West, East & Central. These are First Aid Courses designed specifically for children and cover a wide range of first response first aid. After completing the workbook, all attendees received a certificate and a mini first aid kit to take home. Afghan Community Day, 25th We joined a multitude of agencies, both Council and external to support the Afghan community day in St Mary’s. The event was really well attended, and we were doing our bit alongside SCPA with sand play, games, and balloons for all the children. It was amazing to see the support for the refugees from the whole of Southampton. 2

2 Pop Up events 28th & 29th Joining forces with SCPA, we spent a day at Bentley Green, Harefield and a day at Wavell Rd, Bitterne. We had a Halloween theme running pumpkin carving allongside our normal pop up play equiptment. We had a great couple of day’s, despite the weather and the events were well attended. Remembrance Sunday 14th November Supporting Community coffee mornings at the Venny, Weston I have been supporting the community coffee mornings at the Venny in Weston. The community are invited to a Free coffee morning on a Thursday, a chance to meet, chat and voice any local concerns. Open to all and with supporting activities for children who attend with parents. Vegetarian cooking classes were on this week to teach attendees how to make a cheap vegetable soup. 3

November We had a great day at Remembrance Sunday. The Junior Wardens did themselves proud representing the Council in the Military Parade. The Juniors have attended the Remembrance Day every year now for nearly 20 years and are our next generation, keeping the memory alive of those who paid the ultimate sacrifice in times of conflict. “We will never forget them” This year was also a special year for the Juniors as they got to wear the new uniforms, donated to us by Greener Solutions, one of the Council’s suppliers. Angie from Greener solutions said, “we are proud to support the Junior Wardens and the armed forces for their sacrifice over many years”. The uniforms will be used for many years to come and we are grateful for the support received. Thank you. We are already preparing for next year’s Remembrance Day. The Juniors and Residents of Fairfax Court are making a mosaic to lay instead of the traditional wreath. We are hoping that this will then become a permanent feature in the park for all to see. 4

December 21st, 22nd, 23rd & 24th A combined effort leading up to Christmas with HAF, SCPA, Loan Shark prevention support, Waste & Recycling and a special appearance from Santa. We had 4 days at the Weston Adventure Playground offering a vast array of FREE activities for local children and families. HAF funded events and free food for those receiving free school meals. The Junior Wardens were supporting with games and activities (winners of the litter picking game below) We engaged with 47 parents and 127 children over the days and FUN was had by all. February Half Term was a mix of Community Consultation, Sustainability, Child Friendly City & Engagement. We started the week with the first of 3 events, working with John Hansard Gallery and the Community Engagement Teams. JHG had put together information on sustainability and asking people to make a pledge. Sallie, Hayden and the team were running surveys with young people, to get their views and opinions on surveys, whilst promoting the Child Friendly City. Ian from the Hawthorns Wildlife Centre was showing and helping the children how to make Bird Fat Feeders (messy but popular) The weather wasn’t great, and the streets were deserted so I went on a walkabout and rounded up some people to come along and join us. The Junior Wardens provided activities including a recycling game and a litter picking game. On Friday we joined forces again with SCPA to run a day of free activities for families. The sun was out, and attendance was really good. Over the week we engaged with 76 local children & families. 6

Junior Wardens On a really positive note, Pop Up events this year have been really well attended. Since August 2021 we have run 10 pop up collaborative events, engaging with 332 young people & their families on their doorstep. 48 of those are also registered for future Pop Up events. The Pop Up events have also generated 59 new followers since October on our public Facebook page, taking our total from 93 to 152. I am also working closely with the new Community Engagement team who are currently mapping their areas of the city and will be a great asset to me when looking to work with agencies across the city.
