JUNIOR WARDENS April 2019 Quarter 1 Report April We had a great Easter. The Junior Neighbourhood Wardens were joined by community litter picking groups and Council Waste Services to carry out litter picks as part of a City wide clean-up for this year’s Keep Britain Tidy - Great British Spring Clean campaign. Housing areas in Golden Grove, East Meggesson Avenue in Townhill and West Curzon Court and the wider Lordswood area received a tidy-up on the 16, 17 and 18 April respectively, courtesy of the Junior Neighbourhood Wardens. As well as doing our bit for the local community and the environment, the JNW’s set off to seek out litter from far and wide, as they combined the picks with an Easter Egg hunt. Once they had completed the pics they also had a lesson on recycling from the Waste & Recycling Team. Well done, Juniors, Neighbourhood Wardens, Waste and Recycling and St Mary’s Tesco’s staff. Supported By April 2019

Quarter 1 May This was Mad May. We held MAD (Make a Difference) days in Central, West and East of the city. The Juniors did a variety of tasks, jumping on and off the minibuses. Central completed several gardening and tidy tasks around Northam, West did a play park tour, litter picking each park and also doing surveys on each of the parks they visited around safety, cleanliness, equipment etc. East completed a huge gardening job giving 2 sets of walk up blocks in Harefield a new, more pleasant view. Well done to all the Juniors and the Wardens who supported. Central Working in Northam EAST Working in Leckford Close, Harefiels WEST Still Smiling despite the wind & rain Mad Days

Quarter 1 May The Junior Wardens were supporting the Southampton community in May, by manning a water station at the ABP Marathon. Had some great evenings with the Intergen group at Fairfax Court, The group are designing a sculpture or mosaic for memorial Sunday in November. We also had a fun evening with a folk dancing session, even I joined in. We ended with a planning session for our Summer Party and said goodbye for the Summer with cake.

Figures We now have a total of 119 Juniors across the city who are regularly engaging with the scheme. We have had a total of 10 new sign ups, 2 on the East, 4 on the West and 4 in Central. After the summer break I am looking at a recruitment drive in both Central and East South, particularly in Weston and through St Mary’s Primary School. We have engaged with 7 projects and events, including our usual area projects, the Marathon and the recent Dementia Festival that we supported as part of our Dementia Friends program with the Juniors. A few of the Team Leaders attended with a parent doing face painting of forget-me-not flowers on attendees faces. We Had We now have 136 Facebook members, this equates to 100% of parents now on 87% our page and engaging regularly. Attendance We have an average of 68+ views per post and this still seems to be the best This Quarter way to communicate with parents. Down slightly due to Easter where people go away.
