PHYSICAL EDUCATION & HEALTH 11 DIGITAL SPORTS HANDBOOK Q4 - PT#1

INTRODUCTION OF THE AUTHOR RIzza m. dela cruz is a grade 11 student in Rosario institute s.y 2021- 2022 The badminton handbook is intended purely for educational purposes. This digital handbook will be published with the goal of teaching readers everything they need to know about badminton. Players gain from badminton by improving their cardiovascular health.

History of badminton Invented in India in a version called poona. British army officers learned the game about 1870. The sport was first created in 1873 at the duke of Beaufort's country estate, Badminton, from which the game gets its name. The Bath Badminton Club was founded in 1887, and was succeeded by the Badminton Association of England in 1893, which established the regulations that still govern competitive play today. Military personnel introduce badminton to Vancouver in the late 1890’s. Badminton Canada was founded in 1921, with the first national championships being held in Montreal. Canada is one of nine founding members of the International Badminton Federation in 1934. Badminton is included in the 1972 Munich Olympics as a demonstration sport. Jamie Paulson of Calgary wins gold medal in men’s singles at 1970 Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh, Scotland. In 1992, six Canadians contest badminton as a full medal sport at Barcelona Olympics.

court dimesions Equipment & Facilities for Badminton The badminton court is 13.4 meters in length and 6.1 meters in width. The court is marked 5.18m wide for singles. The lines that demarcate the court are easily visible and are either white or yellow in color. The lines are 40mm long and 40mm broad. Equipment & Facilities for Badminton Racket- The badminton racket is one of the most important pieces of equipment a player owns. Shuttlecock- The shuttlecock in badminton, also known as a shuttle or birdie, functions similarly to a ball in other racquet sports. Net- The badminton court is divided into two halves by a mesh net.

Badminton Technical and tactical Skills Badminton technical Skills 1. The Ready Stance is a badminton position in which the player prepares his or her right stance in order to minimize the amount of movements required to strike the shuttlecock. 2. The two main handles that new players must get familiar with are the forehand and backhand grips. It would be considerably easier for players to manage their shots if they did either of these things. 3. Footwork is a skill that is required to play badminton. A proper stroll would aid in the mastery of the sports. 4. Strokes - At first, the player has four strokes to choose from. Badminton Tactical Skills 1. Putting pressure on the shuttlecock while striking it 2. Place yourself in the center of the base. 3. It would be simpler to hit the shuttlecock from the court's corners. 4. During a singles match, deceive your opponents.

rules of the game (badminton) A match consists of the best of three games of 21 points. The player/pair winning a rally adds a point to its score. At 20-all, the player/pair which first gains a 2-point lead wins that game. At 29-all, the side scoring the 30th point wins that game. The player/pair winning a game serves first in the next game. A badminton match can be played by two opposing players (singles) or four opposing players (doubles). A competitive match must be played indoors utilising the official court dimensions. A point is scored when the shuttlecock lands inside the opponent's court or if a returned shuttlecock hits the net or lands outside of the court the player will lose the point. At the start of the rally, the server and receiver stand in diagonally opposite service courts. A legal serve must be hit diagonally over the net and across the court. A badminton serve must be hit underarm and below the server's waist height with the racquet shaft pointing downwards, the shuttlecock is not allowed to bounce. After a point is won, the players will move to the opposite serving stations for the next point.

rules of the game (badminton) How to Officiate the Sport badminton the rules do not allow second serves. During a point a player can return the shuttlecock from inside and outside of the court. A player is not able to touch the net with any part of their body or racket. A player must not deliberately distract their opponent. A player is not able to hit the shuttlecock twice. A 'let' may be called by the referee if an unforeseen or accidental issue arises. A game must include two rest periods. These are a 90- second rest after the first game and a 5-minute rest after the second game. How to Officiate the Sport badminton The first is the Referee, who is in charge of the whole competition. Second, there's the referee, who's in charge of individual contests. The third person is the service judge, who is in responsibility of examining serves, distributing shuttlecocks, and assisting the referee.
