Chapter 1 Longing and Fear Growing up as the son of a fisherman, I always longed to explore my dad's noble profession. But whenever he called me to go fishing, a strange fear gripped me. I come from Akplabanya, a close-knit fishing community in the greater Accra region of Ada West, Ghana. Every Friday evening, after returning from school, I would get excited at the thought of going fishing on Saturday morning. However, as soon as Saturday morning arrived, a wave of fear washed over me, as if some dreadful fate awaited me out at sea.

Chapter 2 Seeking Guidance One day, determined to conquer my fears, I gathered my courage and sought guidance from Obuge, one of the respected canoe bosses. I explained to him the fear that plagued me whenever I considered going fishing. Obuge reassured me, telling me not to worry. He said that whenever I wanted to go fishing, I should simply come to his house at 5 a.m., and he would accompany me.

Chapter 3 Filled with Determination Filled with renewed determination, I woke up early on a Saturday morning, offering prayers for protection and a safe journey. Obuge, my esteemed boss, commanded a canoe named \"Millennium.\" Eager to contribute, I quickly helped carry the necessary supplies, such as gallons and other essential tools. I also bought some food before boarding the canoe.

Chapter 4 Setting Sail Around 6 a.m., we set off on our voyage. Our mission was to find a fruitful fishing spot, where we could cast our nets and hope for a good catch. As a novice, Mr. Katey Obadiah Obuge advised me to observe and not overexert myself. However, I couldn't resist the infectious enthusiasm of my fellow fishermen as they sang and exerted their strength to pull in the nets filled with a bountiful catch. I eagerly joined them, feeling the fervour and excitement of our collective effort.

Chapter 5 Embracing Responsibility Later, Mr. Katey Obideah Obuge entrusted me with the task of scooping water out of the canoe, a responsibility I carried out with great joy and purpose. Eventually, the time came to haul our prized fish aboard, filling the hold of the canoe, our treasure chest of sorts.

Chapter 6: Moments of Abundance On our way back home, luck smiled upon us as we encountered a group of Tuna. We cast our nets again, resulting in a modest haul of these magnificent creatures. Nevertheless, the abundance of herrings we had already caught filled me with exhilaration, as I witnessed the wonders of life unfolding before my eyes for the first time.

Chapter 7 Unity in Action As we approached the shore, our arrival attracted other members of our vibrant fishing community. It was a captivating sight to behold as eager hands joined together, displaying unity and working in harmony to haul our canoe ashore. This vivid demonstration of solidarity showcased the indomitable spirit that defined Akplabanya's fishing community.

Chapter 8 Rewards of Labour With our catch safely ashore, the fishmongers eagerly awaited their arrival. The fruits of our labour swiftly turned into monetary compensation, which we distributed among our crew. I was amazed to see that the earnings were divided based on each individual's strength and contribution during our time at sea.

Chapter 9 Fear No More Since that transformative day, fear no longer holds me back. I now wake up without hesitation, ready to embark on fishing expeditions. The memories of our adventures remain etched in my mind, including the names of other canoes that have graced the waters—Vovoli, Smart, Small, Tongor, Two- four, Divine, Latest, Kloyobi, Gbatana, Millennium, and more—each name evoking fascination and wonder.

Chapter 10 Embracing Legacy By conquering my fears, I have embraced my father's legacy and the cherished fishing traditions of Akplabanya. With newfound courage, I navigate the vast ocean, eager to discover the untold treasures that lie beneath its shimmering surface.
