Mijo Joseph Mijo Joseph Mijo Joseph Mijo Joseph Mijo Joseph Semester 4 Electronics PEARL Importance of Group Discussion Group discussion is an informal forum where the success of the debate depends on the involvement of each member of the group and the scope of the subject given for discussion. Since no one is nominated in advance to indicate the proceedings of the discussion, the forum has to improve its own procedures, through methods of trial and error, to bring the discussion to a successful conclusion within the time allotted. When, initially, the discussion is likely to go off the tangent through asides and bilateral chit-chats, one among the members, has to take the initiative to place a halt to disorder, through persuasive means, and motivate all for orderly conduct of the discussion. Patience and persuasion, rather than antagonism, win friends for you. It is not enough if you have a wealth of ideas and power of expression on the subject given for discussion, to create the right impression on your examiners, observers and selectors, you need to develop the qualities of leadership, co-ordination and motivation. Only people with unruffled temperament will be capable of handling a group of heterogeneous elements. And the leader is one who knows how to utilize every minute of the 30 minute discussion. So, group discussions act as measuring scales of these taints in the participants and a right mix of knowledge. ‘Power of expression, good temperament, and leadership will win a group discussion to your advantage. Time flies, never to return. 1

Manu Alias Manu Alias Manu Alias Manu Alias Manu Alias Semester 4 Computer Science Ruby Motivation: This poem was written as a wish for how life could, or should be. I am happy with many aspects of my life, but it still rankles at the waste of life I see all around me. The loss of love, the spirit of co-operation and charity that should abound, rather than be the exception. There are many examples of how good people can be; I just wish for more. If If only love was free to find And hope existed side by side. I find not orange, only rind Only The joy I seek seeks to hide. If only people learnt to trust Each other in their daily lives, And dreams were not dashed to dust By falsehoods uttered forth as lies. If only dawn followed dark. If dawn was seen as birth of hope, To wander forth within the park End life takes on a different scope. If only I could see what lies Beyond tomorrow’s darkened view, Perhaps I may again arise To live a life of different hue. And then, at last I may rest And see the promise come to bloom. No more my life put to the test And live according to my doom. If only people could allow Others space to be whatever. To sew the crop that they can plough And reap the harvest till forever. 2 Time is too long for those who give.

Melsa Mathew Semester 4 Civil Pearl Like a child, we should always believe that everything is possible. The sky is the only limit for a child and young children are open to everything. But a child often tends to be thrown away when he or she faces a tough situation. The same thing is repeated by a grown up individual in a childish Yes, You Can manner, “Why have only I been placed in such a situation? It is not fair”. If our response is like this, the problem only gets reinforced leading us to struggle hard to get over the problem, to find a solution. This struggle is the force which motivates us to move forward. Sometimes a problem may assume a bigger dimension than we expect and it may appear impossible to overcome. If we are overwhelmed by the magnitude of the problem it means we have given up before trying solving it. We should always approach the problem in a childlike manner asking oneself – “What could be good about this?” This approach will not let us think, negatively and focus our mind on the positive aspects of the situation. Once our mind sets out in search of the positive aspects of the problem, there is no doubt that we will try to find out a solution. Unless we and our mind accept that there is a problem, solution can never be found out. In search of a solution we think of various options and start the needed action. Try to learn something from a problem and if we fail to solve it in the first attempt, treat our failure as a lesson and avoid our previous mistakes. Never think that our failure is an end of our Endeavour. Treat it as the beginning of our action towards the solution. Our failures can teach us more than our successes. It is only by realizing our mistake that we can stop repeating it. We can look forward to getting better results next time by self realization. Life is all about learning. 6 You can save time, but you can’t bank it.

Serin K Sebastian Serin K Sebastian Serin K Sebastian Serin K Sebastian Serin K Sebastian Semester 4 Electronics Pearl Putting off large, chunky assignments till the last very minutes thus not able to complete the task given or simply rushed through it to get it done... That’s what procrastination means! We all have a tendency to put things off for various reasons and believe me, I’ve been the master of this one in the past. Understanding why you procrastinate helps you to do something about it. How often have you made yourself ‘busy’ just because you’re putting off doing something you’re resisting? Well, here are few things you can do to prevent procrastination. When you put off a task it can start to develop almost ogre-like proportions before we’ll get round to doing it. The longer you leave it, the harder it becomes. Usually by that time, it’s become urgent or critical rather than just important. What is the benefit of your procrastination? What is the pay-off you get from putting something off? It may be the easier route in the short-term but what is the long-term impact? When does procrastination have consequences on your pocket, health or emotional well- being? If you leave it too long, the task gets to the point where it can no longer be ignored and demands your attention. Now you have to get it done – which somehow, you now find You can neither add up nor diminish time, you can’t change the past, but you can rain the 19 present by worrying about the future.

the time or inclination to do. So what was stopping you in the first place? When the pain of not doing something becomes greater than the pain of doing it, resistance will magically disappear and more often than not we find that it wasn’t as bad as we thought after all. To help reduce procrastination, try breaking a larger task down into smaller tasks, so it doesn’t seem quite so onerous. For instance, if you need to write a report that you think is going to take days to write – take five minutes just to get a few ideas on paper. Next time – add a bit more, refine it, and add a bit more content. Schedule time to come back to it later either in a few hours or the next day or later in the week and complete a bit more. Once you get started it’s surprising how much easier it can be to keep going. The easiest way I have found to tackle many things is by spending just 5 or 10 minutes on a task. You’ll increase your productivity when you give yourself a time limit and it’s less daunting than needing to spend an hour or more on it and less excuse to procrastinate. Putting off that pile of filing? Spend 10 minutes tackling the top of the pile or start to reduce the pile by sorting out all the papers that go into the same file or relate to the same subject. Repeat this at regular intervals throughout the day or set aside 10 minutes at the beginning or end of every day to do a little bit more or to keep on top of it. Just do it! Putting something off like a phone call or an email? Instead of saying to yourself, ‘I’ll do it in a minute, or I’ll do it later … do it now. Just go for it and get it out of the way and then you can move on and stop worrying. I find this technique works really well. Catch yourself putting something off and just do it. Sometimes we put things off because something doesn’t ‘feel right’. How many times have you had a decision to make or something that needs doing and by delaying the need disappears? That’s not an excuse to procrastinate, just an indication to look at where the resistance is coming from and why. When you procrastinate, what are you resisting? The more you resist the harder it becomes, so assuming the task is worthy of your attention in the first place, take action sooner rather than later. If it’s worth doing – do it now! If it’s not, then just let it go and stop worrying about it. K 20 It is only when we understand that we have limited time on earth that we value it.

Christina Jacob Christina Jacob Christina Jacob Christina Jacob Ideas Work Christina Jacob Semester 4 Computer Science Ruby Wonders Success starts with a thought or an idea when nourished with hope and confidence and encouraged by aspiration, that single idea takes shape as a dream, vision and goal in stages. You must allow your ideas to grow, no matter how far fetched or non conformist they may seem in the beginning. You must give wings to your ideas and let them fly high. You must allow your thoughts to take root no matter how others choose to regard them. Many great ones, whom the world today worships with admiration and wonder as gifted visionaries, super geniuses or miracle makers were thought as utopians or mental patients by several of the contemporaries. While some may describe your ideas as imagination and vision others may dub them as sheer day drams and idle fantasies. But the fact remains that ideas however strange, unorthodox or heretic they might have seemed at the start, have ultimately wrought miracles brought revolutions and built civilization. Ideas verity rule the world, and also the minds of men, They contribute to continuing changes, shape as well as determine the destiny of human beings and contribute to the growth of civilization. Every great and grant accomplishment, whether relating to religion, science, medicine industry, technology or sports which are written in letters of gold in the history of human advancement, was in the first instance, no more than a mere idea in the mind of a human being. Ideas sprout, blossom and lead to action with knowledge. Therefore your success is irretrievably linked to knowledge. Knowledge is strength and knowledge is power.
