Off The Shelf HousingBetween January and March 2017, East Renfrewshire Council managed to purchase 12 'Rent Off The Shelf ' houses to add to our social rented stock. In late 2016, the Scottish Government offered East Renfrewshire Council a grant of 50% of the property value to increase the number of affordable homes across the Authority. The size of housing most in demand by our customers are 3 bedroom family properties in Levern Valley, and 1 bedroom properties across the Authority.A similar grant scheme was previously made available by the Scottish Government which saw the Council purchase ten 1 bedroom properties over two years to increase our stock. No grant funding was permitted to carry over into the new financial year in April; therefore all sales had to be completed by 31st March 2017. The timescales of the Rent Off The Shelf scheme presented a massive challenge to staff. Suitable dwellings had to be identified and surveyed, and negotiations with vendors and all legal procedures finalised in order to complete sales within a period of three months.Housing Officers and their colleagues managed to meet the timescales ensuring an increase in much needed social rented housing stock. In the Levern Valley Area, three 1 bedroom and four 3 bedroom properties were purchased, along with five 1 bedroom properties in Eastwood. The purchases will help to meet our affordable housing needs.Clydeplan UpdateOn 24th July 2017, the Scottish Ministers approved, with modifications, the second Strategic Development Plan for the Glasgow and Clyde Valley Region. The Strategic Development Plan sets out a development strategy over the next 20 years of where new development should be located and a policy framework to help deliver sustainable economic growth, shape good quality places and enhance the quality of life in the Glasgow city region. The Plan focuses on growing the economy of the city region in a low carbon and sustainable manner and setting out a planning framework which positively encourages investment within the city region. The approved Strategic Development Plan will be published on Clydeplan's website at www.clydeplan-sdpa.gov.uk/ www.eastrenfrewshire.gov.uk/local-development-plan
