NATIONALDIABETESAWARENESSBY ETA ALPHA SORORITY About one third of all people with diabetes do not know they have the disease. Type 2 diabetes often does not have any symptoms. Diabetes is the leading cause of blindness in working-age adults. Diabetes costs $174 billion annually, including $116 billion in direct medical expenses.Diabetes is a disease in which the body isunable to properly use and store glucose (a formof sugar). Glucose backs up in the bloodstream— causing one’s blood glucose (sometimesreferred to as blood sugar) to rise too high.There are two major types of diabetes. In type 1(fomerly called juvenile-onset or insulin-dependent) diabetes, the body completely stopsproducing any insulin, a hormone that enablesthe body to use glucose found in foods forenergy. People with type 1 diabetes must takedaily insulin injections to survive. This form ofdiabetes usually develops in children or youngadults, but can occur at any age. Type 2(formerly called adult-onset or non insulin-dependent) diabetes results when the bodydoesn’t produce enough insulin and/or is unableto use insulin properly (insulin resistance). Thisform of diabetes usually occurs in people whoare over 40, overweight, and have a familyhistory of diabetes, although today it isincreasingly occurring in younger people,particularly adolescents. We joined the nation in sharing very solid information surrounding Down Syndrome in adults and children, its facts, data, and hope. Down syndrome (DS or DNS), also known as trisomy 21, is a genetic disorder caused by the presence of all or part of a third copy of chromosome 21. It is typically associated with physical growth delays, characteristic facial features and mild to moderate intellectual disability. THIS MONTH'S FEATURE THE TALE OF AN ANONYMOUS DONATION BY ETA ALPHA SORORITY Our Founding Onyx had the extraordinary pleasure of meeting with the staff of the U.S. Institute Against Human Trafficking this morning. The U.S. Institute Against Human Trafficking, a nonprofit, faith-based organization anointed by God to fight against human trafficking in America with truth and integrity, showing the love of Jesus Christ to all involved, intends to end Human Trafficking in the United States through prevention, combating demand, the rescue of victims, and providing safe refuge for the restoration of survivors.    Pictured here is footage from the invitation given to our Founder to join the staff for their weekly prayer meeting, a facility tour and donation presentation. This comes at the anonymous gift given to us for our second annual Holiday Jingle where we raffled off a mint condition iPad Mini. We are so excited about what took place today and what God is up to in both organizations present and their partnership!
