Despite being restricted to \u201ctraditional\u201d \nstyles only, 111 archers turned up for the event, \nincluding a strong contingent from the rapidly- \ngrowing \u201cthumb draw\u201d category. \nThey shot 36 targets on our newly laid \u201chunting \nstyle\u201d course and the feedback that we received was \nunanimously positive, with many favourable comments \nregarding shot length, target placement and shooting \nstance. A frequent comment was how nice it was not \nto be shooting \u201cstretched\u201d shots. ","37 ","38 \nSurrey University Shoot \nat Company of 60. \nCompany of 60\u2019s University Guests... \nOn the 5th October we welcomed the University of Surrey\u2019s Archery department \n(the Team Surrey Archery Club) to come to Company of 60 and have a go at \n3D archery. Being used to target archery and knowing the distances, it came as a \nbit of a shock to be thrust into the woods shooting at foam 3D animals from \nvarying distances, from different pegs and different standing\/kneeling positions. \nAfter a few shots they all seemed to start getting \nthe hang of it and suddenly the smiles started. Once \nthey got confident enough, the banter started flowing \nand the competition really picked up. \nThey were split into two groups of 4 with Andy - \nClub Secretary - and Emma, our Events Officer, \ntaking one group around; and Steve - our \nMembership Secretary - and David, our Head Coach, \n taking the second group.","39 \n \n \n \n \n \nWe broke for lunch (platters of sandwiches and wraps, \nand chocolate donuts provided by our club) with hot \ndrinks on tap. \nEveryone was trying to find out everyone else\u2019s \nscores as we had told them that we were \ngoing to be giving medals to the top three scores. \nThey all picked up on the scoring quickly and \nchecked with us a few times that they had got it \ncorrect. \nAll in all it was a great day and they all \nthoroughly enjoyed shooting a different style \nof archery; and they hope to come back again \nin the future, which we would welcome. \nIt was an honour just being able to allow one ","40 \nthe top university archery clubs to come and try out field archery on \nour newly - laid courses and to shoot \naround with them. \nWe would definitely recommend reaching \nout \nto \nlocal \nuniversities\/ \nyouth \narchery clubs to come and shoot at \nyour grounds as it\u2019s lovely to give \nback and let people try new archery \nexperiences. \nBy Steve James, \nCO60 Membership Secretary."," \nwww.mandarinduck.net","42 \nThe Dunbrody Archers\u2019 \nThe Dunbrody Archers\u2019 \nThe Dunbrody Archers\u2019 \n2024 100 3D shoot \n2024 100 3D shoot \n2024 100 3D shoot \nby \nby \nby \nDoc Smith. \nDoc Smith. \nDoc Smith. \nThis year's \nDunbrody Archers \n 100 3D Championships have to be the best \n100 to-date and you did the late Martin Moylan very proud. \nOutside of all the very hard work of dragging all those targets out onto \nthe course and cutting and strimming the lanes. There were little touches \nthat I liked, like Martin's memorial bench and \nAndrew Wayland \n's collection \nof photos of the Club \nmembers down through \nthe years.","43 \n \n \nThe water and sun cream stations dotted \naround the course came in handy with the \nbrilliant weather that ye had arranged for \nus as well \n. \nThere were archers from every corner of Ireland \nand archers from Germany \n - (my good friend \nHolger Wischhusen \n, his \nbeautiful wife \nElke \n, and their friend), as well as France \n and Hungary \nwho had come for the competition. \nWe thank each and every club member who made this fantastic \ncompetition possible. A big thank you to my shooting buddies for \nthe weekend - Deirdre, Victoria and me auld nemesis \nMick Seery \nfor making the whole experience better, if that was at all possible. ","44 ","45 ","46 ","47 "," "," ","50 \nThe Bowyer\u2019s Diary \n\u201cBoo, Yew Ipe Flight Bow \nPart 2 - AKA \nSome you Lose, Some You Win \n\u201d \nby Derek Hutchison (AKA \u201cDel the Cat\u201d). \nI was tillering the boo\/Yew Ipe flight bow and the tiller looked wrong - closer \ninspection revealed the Ipe belly had started to chrysal! It is supposed to be \nvery strong in compression, so why? Three possible reasons\u2026 \n1. The grain runs diagonally at the failure point. \n2. I\u2019d simply made the belly lamination too thin. \n3. The Yew core under that point was weak due to a splice there. \nOh, well, I\u2019ve put it to one side... I may replace some of the belly and core \nsometime. \nI had another failure of a 35# Yew primitive that I\u2019d made for a club member. \nI suspect it may have been from some Yew which had been lying on the \nground for a while before being picked up and that the sapwood may have \nbeen compromised, as I had another failure from the same timber (and yet \nthey were both fairly low stressed bows).
