Indira Gandhi Agricultural University An Introduction Indira Gandhi Agricultural University Raipur was established on 20 January 1987. This university has been entrusted with the responsibility of education, research and extension education in agriculture and related subjects in the state of Chhattisgarh, which the university is operating through its 49 colleges, 08 research centers and 27 Krishi Vigyan Kendras. Chhattisgarh is the 9th largest state of the country in terms of area, whose area is about 137.90 lakh hectares. About 42 percent of the total area of the state is covered by forests. The net sown area under cultivation in the state is about 48 lakh hectares. There are about 40 lakh farmers in the state, for whose economic status the university is committed.

Special Awards and Honors For the remarkable work done in teaching, research and extension, the university has received about 22 national awards in the past years.  16th rank among 72 universities in Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) ranking (2021)  Best Models of e-Governance, Ministry of Information Technology, Government of India (9 January 2017)  4 KVKs Awarded as India's Best KVKs by ICAR, Bastar (2010), Dantewada (2016), Kanker (2018), Korea (2020)  ICAR Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya National Agricultural Science Promotion Award, Krishi Vigyan Kendra Kanker (2016), Krishi Vigyan Kendra Korea (2017) and Krishi Vigyan Kendra Kawardha (2018)  ICAR First Zonal Award to 4 Krishi Vigyan Kendras by Dantewada (2014), Surguja (2015), Korea (2017) and Kawardha (2018).  Best Center Award for 11 research projects of the University. Agriculture Weather (2014), Linseed (2014), Rice (2015), Rural Agriculture Weather Service (2015), Tuber Crops (2015), National Seed Project (2016), Pulses (2018), Minor Cereals (2018), Fodder Crops ( 2018), spices (2019) and cashew (2019).

Library  Nehru Library is functioning at the Raipur headquarter of the University. It has the status of Regional Library in the Central India region by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research. Under CERA, this library is linked to all agricultural universities. More than 1 lakh books, research journals, e-resources, e-books, CD ROM, data base etc. are available in the library. The facility of 200 research journals and 3500 online research journals are available in the library. Wi-Fi connectivity and 25 work stations are available in the library.  Libraries are available in each college of the university, in which sufficient quantity of books, e-resources, e-books, CD ROM, data base and general and online general are available. Scholarship  Post matric scholarship for SC and OBC students.  In graduate, postgraduate courses in government colleges, Rs. 4500/- and Rs. 5400/- per annum merit scholarship.  5000/- Rs. to all the students of Ph.D course. scholarship per month  5000/- Rs. for 1 year to postgraduate students going to other institutions for research. Distinguished Teaching Achievements  Due to the quality of education, about 400 students from 20 states are studying in various courses.  Remarkable performance of students in national level examinations In the year 2021, 250 students passed the \"NET\" examination.  M.O.U. have been signed with 65 national institutions and universities for the research of postgraduate and PhD students.

Research Achievements  08 Research Centres, 10 International Projects, 42 All India Coordinated Projects, 80 Ad- hoc Projects.  Developed 160 varieties of 51 different crops.  Total 08 species to be developed in the year 2022.  Production of about 15000 quintals of seeds on the campus of the University  Development of more than 100 techniques of agriculture Zinc Rice Indira Aerobic Paddy-1 Dubraj Vishnu Bhog Collection-1 Tissue Culture Lab

Germplasm Collection Management and evaluation of rice Germplasm  Collection and management of about 23250 varieties of paddy, 1800 of linseed and 1964 of Tiwda.  India's largest and world's second largest collection of paddy, DNA of paddy germplasm. Fingerprinting functional.  About 1567 species of farmers of the state have submitted applications for registration to the Government of India. About 460 farmers have received registration certificates.  10 farmers and 02 seed conservation committees in the state received special awards from the Government of India for biodiversity conservation.  Research on crops like Coffee, Strawberry, Pear, Peach, Plum, Kiwi, Kinnow, Sev, Grapes, Makhana, Tulip, Lilium.  Establishment of 03 centers of excellence for special research, biotechnology, medicinal plants, aromatic plants and non-timber forest produce, protected cultivation  Consultancy to public and private sector organizations for technology development.

Dissemination Achievements  About 2500 training and field demonstrations are organized by 27 Krishi Vigyan Kendras every year.  About 55,000 farmers benefited from training/demonstration every year  About 400 Kisan Melas, Kisan Diwas and Field Day are organized every year in the entire state.  About 200 Doordarshan and All India Radio talks of scientists every year  Distribution of 2,25,000 agricultural literature every year  Agriculture and weather information through mobile messages to about 13 lakh farmers twice a week  Agri input dealers training program at 20 centers of the university, training of about 5000 input dealers of the state in 3 years  State-of-the-art Agriculture Museum established in the University, about 01 lakh farmers and students visit every year  Mobile app named “Crop Doctor” and “Vegetable Doctor” for farmers Popularization of Kadaknath Poultry Breed Popularization of Dhes Cultivation

University Administration and Budget  About 2900 academic and non-academic posts have been sanctioned by the Government of Chhattisgarh and the Government of India for teaching, research and extension work.  The University receives an average grant of Rs 250 crore per year from Chhattisgarh Government, Indian Council of Agricultural Research, Government of India and other institutions.
