CHAPTER 2

A loud clatter of what seemed to be metal against cement sounded behind me, causing me to jump in fear. I turned my head slightly to my left, the beam from the flashlight that was tied to my head illuminating Iori's figure. She glanced at me to roll her eyes, before she turned towards the source of the sound. \"Keep quiet!\" She hissed out towards Kisa, who had knocked a box over whose contents were previously metal pipes. \"We can't be caught sneaking out again, I refuse to spend another moment in the punishment chamber,\" She said quietly, shivering at the memory of a room none of the students here were fond of. \"Let's keep going,\" I said, turning to continue down the path of the dark cement passage. I shivered, thinking about how the school should install heaters in the underground tunnels as I tried to keep my boots from clacking too loudly against the ground. We were on our way to the outside to find a particular remedy to save one of our friends. Pandora had been ill for years, and hardly ever was able to participate in activities. Luckily, her Ace was foresight, and didn't require much physical energy, but still wore her out nonetheless.1

For the last year however, she had been in a coma from overusing her Ace.The school doctor had decided recently that if she didn't wake up within amonth, they would pull the plug on her. This was our third trip to the outside tofind a cure for her disease to prevent them from killing her. Our first trip was completely a failure, seeing as we had been caught rightbefore we left the part of the campus that was above ground. Need I mention, wewere forbade from ever leaving the campus sans permission from the higher ups.The only time we were allowed to leave was in the case of a dire emergency, andI'm confident in saying that the higher ups have a different understanding of theword dire than most people do. Our second trip was not completely successful, but we found a lead. Wediscovered that there was a student as the nearby Kurugo University who hadvast knowledge of potions and spells. By word of mouth, we learned that theremedy we needed was something that this student could create, and thus, we arenow set out to find them. 2

\"Ah,\" I whispered to the other two, \"found it.\" I placed my hand on the rusty metallic door knob and winced at the screeching sound it made as I turned it. I gently pushed the door open, only enough to slide through. Immediately as I stepped outside, I heard a cacophony of whirring noise, and was blinded by light. I panicked momentarily, before noticing the helicopter in the dark starry night sky that had been coming from the direction of Kurugo University. It flew past, and I let out a sigh of relief. I turned towards the two who had quickly ducked back behind the heavy metal door. \"False alarm. Let's go.\" End of CHAPTER 2 − Chapter by Akira3
