CHAIRMAN‟S MESSAGE ― The greater the obstacle, the more glory in overcoming them.‖ The past two years have proved to be baptism by fire for everyone committed towards creating and nurturing a learning environment that is meaningful for the future generation. Challenges posed by the pandemic were indeed immense but not insurmountable. These required grit and resilience on behalf of the teacher and student community. Nevertheless, it gives me immense satisfaction to know that under the guidance of a strong leader, Dr. Neetu Kapoor, the school has achieved new milestones even during these unprecedented times. The school teachers have kept themselves abreast with the fast growing body of knowledge in the field of education. They have adopted the latest pedagogies in their virtual classrooms and are in the process of successfully transitioning back to the physical mode of the teaching learning process. Gaps may have arisen in the learning curve of our young learners, but I'm sanguine that these will also be assessed and addressed in earnest by the facilitators. It is imperative for the student fraternity to realise that through perseverance and focus they can achieve their goals and set new benchmarks for others to emulate. I find the new edition of ―Horizon‖ as an apt reflection of the myriad dreams and aspirations of our student fraternity. I would like to congratulate the editorial team for bringing out this year‘s vibrant edition and wish everyone the very best for their future. JAI HIND! Brig Bharat Huria Chairman 3

FROM THE PRINCIPAL‟S DESK ‗’ A positive attitude gives you power over your circumstances instead of your circumstances having power over you.’’ Army Public School, Delhi cant is committed to moving on with an elevating and stimulating journey of providing our children an exceptional learning experience. The goal of modern education is to focus on ensuring that children would be problem solvers, decision makers and environmental care takers. The institution provides such an ambience where each and every child is celebrated as an achiever. FROM THE EDITOR‟S DESK \"Our attitudes determine whether we experience peace or fear, freedom or limitation, and to a large extent, whether we are well or sick.\" Gerald G. Jampolsky, Teach Only Love A positive attitude is not just sporting a smile on your face every time. It is about maintaining positive outlook and attitude when things are in utter chaos. Students of APS Delhi cantt displayed their undeterred spirit and unwavering attitude towards achieving their goal during this pandemic times. The academic session 2021 – 22 is dotted with success, hope and progress. Horizon is an eloquent expression of the progress and achievements of APS DC made during this session. Army Public School, Delhi cantt offers the right ground for the young aspirants to transform their habits into accomplishments. It encourages young minds to think beyond textbooks, go beyond classrooms and spread their wings of talent. Co- curricular activities that happen outside the classroom provide complementary and supplementary learning in some form or the other. This indeed prepares the younger generation for the future and gives scope for developing 21st Century skills. Army Public School, Delhi cantt focuses on producing a generation of compassionate individuals facilitating cooperation rather than competition. Plethora of activities offered by the institution expose children to completely different types of experiences and save them from being just an offshoot of school learning. The core aim of education to promote holistic development is achieved by giving the right exposure and encouragement to the children to experiment, make mistakes, face failure and give them space to reflect and restart. School magazine ‗Horizon’ is an endeavour to showcase such young innovative minds, budding sports stars and star orators. The younger generation‘s views, opinions, perspectives and their needs and desires are reflected through the medium of this magazine ‗Horizon‘. I sincerely hope that this magazine will enjoy your critical acclaim. Happy Reading!! Malathi Srinivasan Editor -in -Chief. 5

STUDENT EDITORIAL ―To expand the horizons of your utmost destiny you have to venture beyond the confines of fear, doubt and negativity.‖ ― Anthon St. Maarten Everything has a history. Everyone has their own endeavour. It depends on how they take it, how they overcome each situation and how they will face each circumstance that made their endeavour meaningful. As a student, I am living a very simple yet fruitful life. I started as a toddler who wanted my parents to be proud of me. I did my very best to study hard and to receive an award every end of the school year. And as I end the first ground of my studies, I thank God because I still have my award as one of the top students in the class. Then I entered my high school life. I can say that this is the most adventurous and wonderful part of my life. I shifted to APS Delhi Cantt in 10th grade and so far everything has been going as normal as a high schooler could expect. But then one March morning the world paused. It all started with a precautionary weeklong lockdown but then the lockdown kept on extending. Spring didn't know what to expect, so it came without notice. Our peak years of teenage came and went away locked inside our homes sitting in front of our screens the whole day. It felt like I moved from 10th to 12th in a blur of events. But have you ever seen a beam of light peeking through dark clouds after days of strong rain and you have the hope that finally the rain will stop and the sun will smile bright again? For us, that beam of life was our school and our teachers who were always there for our 2 AM physics doubts. They became our counsellors, our mentors and most importantly our support system, more now than ever so. This pandemic surely has changed everything around the globe but our teachers made sure nothing can hinder our progress. From participating and winning in different competitions to organising online assemblies and webinars, we did it all. And after being hit by many different waves of this unfortunate pandemic, here we stand all proud and strong. The students of Army Public School Delhi, Cantt present our unprecedented experiences pouring our hearts out in the paper through this magazine- THE HORIZON. Arpita Malik 6 XII D

LESSONS FOR THE WORLD FROM COVID 19 OUTBREAK : STATE LEVEL ―Our lives matter. No matter what people tell you otherwise. God created everything for a purpose. We do not learn from Happiness, we can only learn through pain.‖ Today I, feel fortunate to have got this opportunity of expressing my views on a very significant topic ―LESSONS FOR THE WORLD FROM COVID- 19 OUTBREAK‖ ―Self Care Is Not Self-Indulgence, Family Matters More Than We Realized‖ If someone asks me what did you learn from this pandemic I would simply say: It taught me to love, to care, to respect, to help, to introspect. Though this pandemic has killed innocent people but we’ve also learned a lot from it . I’ve been thinking a lot - what is it that will come out of all this? The answer is clear --- Equality! This situation has shown us that we are all the same regardless of our religion, culture, customs, or whether we are poor or rich! The virus shows no prejudice. It has connected us in a way, it showed us the weight of humanity. It reminded us who we are. Adversity can come anytime anywhere without knocking at your door and it expects you to be prepared for it. Unfair! I know, but Life is like this, it gives lemons as and when it feels like and no you cannot make lemonade out of it, rather it converts you into lemonade. These lemons could be in the form of financial distress, mental distress or physical distress, anything. And this time life has chosen COVID, a deadly disease that has turned the world upside down. But There is an old saying ―THERE IS GOOD IN EVERY EVIL‖. From this, I have experienced the feeling that I had never experienced before, whenever I used to sit with my family I feel secure and thank almighty who made me realise the importance of family time. I finally got time to develop a hobby, I am learning which I always wanted. It also made all of us learn the importance of personal hygiene and keeping health on priority. But above all , this Pandemic reminded us to value what we have. ―They say there is light at the end of the tunnel, And I used to see that light saying yes we can get through this! I am aware of everything like the medical advancements that have happened like Wearable tech which can detect early illness, I am also aware of the things that have been taken away from us due to this situation, of all the unrealized plans, be it birthdays, travels, weddings ... and sadly, we cannot do anything about it. But we are not powerless! On the contrary, it is all of us together that can make the world a better place. If each of us respects the measures imposed by authorities, the situation will get better and it will pass much faster than expected. I can single out isolation - staying at home – as one of the most important measures. I know it sounds difficult and believe me, at first this sounded impossible to me, just unfeasible. I personally found it hard and boring, but like all of us, I learned to cope up with it., Well how can we forget our new found , no I am not talking about some superstar of sport icon, I am talking about doctors yes! who gave their lives to save so that we can spend time with our families and set in our cosy beds. A grand salute to them so always remember super heroes don't wear capes they Wear aprons and save us in our hard times So I would like to end up with the words of sir Peter Sheppard ―We do not heal in isolation but in togetherness‖ So ―LET’S BE MINDFUL OF OUR EARTH AND IT WILL BE KIND TO US. THERE IS NO RAINBOW WITHOUT RAIN. REMEMBER THAT.‖ So ―UNITY‖ is the lesson which we have learned through this Pandemic ―UNITY IS POWER‖ and Power lies in us!! Thank you and be strong… Jai hind Vande matram 15 Tamish Kumar 8D

A Dream That Made Me Feel Blessed Who in this world does not have a dream? A dream to own a luxury car, have good wealth and fame, own a big house, to be successful in all endeavors. Even I had a dream – to lead a life of opulence. I want to live a life like a celebrity. I wished I was born with a golden spoon. One night I dreamt that I have achieved all that I wanted – luxuriant life, great fame, but I had no time for my family. I was alone and leading a mechanical life. Months passed sans parents' love. I stood alone with all my fame but I truly missed my happiness – the meals with family, the jokes and laughter with friends, teasing with siblings, festivities with relatives. I was frustrated with life. When I woke up I realized that leading a normal life with friends and family members can give me more happiness than a luxurious life. The love , care & happiness that I get eating simple homemade food & living in a small house , leading a life without much wealth and fame gave me more happiness that any wealth can buy. After that dream, I stopped yearning for something I don’t have and I am full of gratitude to God. S. Tanmay Sai, VII C 16

A DAY BEFORE THE RESULT DECLARATION ―Results are something more horrifying than ghosts‖ or as per the present need it‘s something like... ―You are not connected to the internet‖ kind of situation. Results play a very important part in a person‘s life. Just like every coin has two phases, the result day also has two consequences. On one hand, it may bring you loads of happiness and tears for the same and on another― disappointment and loads of tears for the same thing. Everyone has butterflies in their stomach. The anxiety level is the highest level. A day before the result declaration becomes a long day. Students‘ faith in God and prayers become strong. Their mind constantly drifts back to the answers attempted and attempted. They become Ramanujan in calculating their expected percentage. There is a famous saying, ``Don‘t count your chickens before they hatch '' ... but this saying somehow disappears and loses its path in the mind of students when it comes to their result declaration for their annual examinations. But there are also some students totally out of the box.Instead of worrying they are having confidence in good amount and start penning a wish list for their parents to make them buy amusing presents on their coming out with flying colours. If you think logically then results are something that pay you off for your hard work and the knowledge you‘ve earned in past academic sessions. Though we face it each and every year, and almost throughout our lives, the experience and feelings never change. The anxiety of it all makes us bite our nails and run around in circles till we get the Report Card in our hands. The experience on the day when the results are being announced is still a nightmare and everyone would be happy if the trauma gets over, as soon as possible, but surely with good results! JOURNEY OF STUDENTS THROUGH THE PANDEMIC ―EMBRACE EACH CHALLENGE IN YOUR LIFE AS AN OPPORTUNITY FOR SELF-TRANSFORMATION.” COVID-19 gave rise to a global catastrophic situation that affected every sphere of human life. Amidst this pandemic, the only thing we did is to stay positive and carry on with our lives. There was nothing like a pandemic to make us feel like we were all in the same boat. This situation provided a unique opportunity for students to understand how others were experiencing a situation that they themselves were living through. Initially, students were happy about the virus because there were no schools and colleges as they enjoyed all day. But soon they realised how they missed their school, their mentors, their friends and their studies. Slowly, they all started shifting to online classes, online interaction with the teachers where everything seemed so challenging. The role of my school Army public school, Delhi Cantt during this situation was priceless. They made all the arrangements for online education and showed the students a path to accept the new normal. When the epidemic was at its worst and when most of the students and parents became helpless, be it financially or mentally, the school supported them all. The Principal and teachers took sessions regularly to encourage parents and students to take a step towards virtual learning and accepting the pros of the widespread. They made children believe that- Challenges are what make life interesting. The mentors of APS, Delhi Cantt took the challenge of online teaching and tried to make the future of the students turn into a bright light. The students and parents feel immensely proud to be a part of the APS Delhi Cantt family where every teacher and the Principal treated the children as their own responsibility thus, leading the future stars. ―YOU DON'T HAVE TO HAVE ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING SOLVED, BUT YOU HAVE TO BE READY FOR WHAT COMES THROUGH THE DOOR.” 20 ANKITA DAS, Class:- XII D

ONLINE EDUCATION Teaching has gone online because of covid19 . All schools across the globe have closed and over 1.2 billion children are out of school. Online education has some advantages and disadvantages Advantages are, here the students access online study materials, join virtual lectures; post questions to teachers, chat with fellow students, give virtual exams and do many more things. Online classes provide a good quality of education to students in the comfort of their homes and also help in controlling virus spread. There are no barriers to time, they can study at their convenience. They get to know more about various apps and programmes . All the study material is safely stored in an online database . If students need further explanations, they can easily view their records and resolve doubts instantly. Disadvantages are, there is no face to face conversation between teachers and students. Internet connectivity is also a big issue in some areas . Internet prices are also increasing and everyone cannot afford online education. Online education may also hinder physical development. Online education potential advantages involve increased educational access , it provides a high quality learning opportunity, improves students' learning outcome and skills and expands educational choice options . It is necessary that both students and teachers get used to hybrid classes to have an effective teaching learning process. Neha ,XII G 26

“ I DID NOT MISS MY SCHOOL ” I did not miss my school because back in the normal days I was always busy due to the hectic schedule for all the five days. I did not have time for the things that I actually love to do. The days were so packed and my productivity was not high but I had no time. In this hectic schedule if I wanted to take a leave then I needed to think of the great loss in the session and after the leave the work needed to be completed and all the activities needed to be completed. There was so much to do from completing the notebooks to decorating them. From learning chapters to giving the exams. From making the subject notebooks to art and crafts. Nowadays I do what I feel like doing. I am polishing and working on my skills. I get time to concentrate on my weaknesses and to strengthen my strengths. My painting has improved 10 fold. I draw beautiful scenery and mandalas. I have so much time to dedicate myself. My physical activity has gone down because of the lock down but I have started learning new things like skating. Since I have just started, it is very problematic but I know I will get better at it and it is good to learn new things. First l needed holidays and now I have countless days off and I don't even need to think of the loss of the session because I can take the rest and easily attend the online classes. There is no stress at all. Nowadays online classes are more convenient and suitable than the classes before. I don't need to get ready, don't need to travel to the bus stop and now I don't need to do everything fast to catch the early morning bus. Nothing needs to be done to join the online meeting. Online classes are very comfortable as can sit near any comfortable place we think and can study with fresh mind. We don’t need to set the bag according to the timetable. everything is working efficiently. As I am taking the online classes I have even learnt how to use new gadgets and many new features that I didn't knew before and we should keep on learning new things about our technology. LIFE IS SLOW BUT HAPPENING AND DEFINITELY BETTER THAN BEFORE. 29 Avika Singh , 7 E

Voyager The most distant human- created object in space Voyager, in space exploration, either of a pair of robotic U.S. interplanetary probes launched to observe and to transmit information to Earth about the giant planets of the outer solar system and the farthest reaches of the Sun’s sphere of influence. Each craft carried a greeting to any form of extraterrestrial intelligence or Aliens that might eventually find it. A gold-plated copper phonograph record—accompanied by a cartridge, needle, and symbolic instructions for playing it—contained images and sounds chosen to depict the diversity of life and culture on Earth Voyager 2 was launched first, on August 20, 1977; It’s launch mass was 825.5kg for Voyager 2 and total cost was 89.5 crores USD. Voyager 1 followed some two weeks later, on September 5 and it’s launch mass was the same as Voyager 2 and a total cost of 25 crores USD. The twin- spacecraft mission took advantage of a rare orbital positioning of Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune that permitted a multiplanet tour with relatively low fuel requirements and flight time. It sped by Jupiter on July 9, 1979, and passed Saturn on August 25, 1981. It then flew past Uranus on January 24, 1986, and Neptune on August 25, 1989, before being hurled toward interstellar space. Voyager 2 is the only spacecraft to have visited the latter two planets. On February 17, 1998, Voyager 1 overtook the space probe Pioneer 10 (launched 1972) to become the most distant human-made object in space. By 2004 both Voyagers were well beyond the orbit of Pluto. In 2012 the Voyagers became the longest-operating spacecraft, having functioned for 35 years and still periodically transmitting data. On August 25, 2012, Voyager 1 became the first space probe to enter interstellar space when it crossed the heliopause, the outer limit of the Sun’s magnetic field and solar wind. Voyager 2 crossed the heliopause on November 5, 2018. The Voyagers were expected to remain operable through 2020. Piyush Kumar XI B 30

A VOYAGE OUT OF THE ONLINE LEARNING PANDEMIC The way of education which needed a change was the one which the schools had followed in As we gradually come out of the pandemic, with the past. With time things need a change. So due new expectations and hopes, we enter the world to this pandemic, the change has occurred. with a more mature perspective. COVID-19 has left a very significant mark in all our Nowadays online teaching has been the most lives and the sufferings and mental stress it caused assistable mode of teaching. During covid-19, the is unmatched. But, looking on the brighter side of schools were closed. But technology came with a the picture, it also brought along with it some help to education. It gave us that precious time conduct classes and facilitate students with the to pause and look into ourselves, to introspect and best quality education. IMPORTANCE OF CONCENTRATION AND COMPOSURE ―The power to concentrate was the most important thing. Living without this power would be like opening one's eyes without seeing anything.‖ Modem time is the time of advancement in all fields which demands an extra effort on the part of everyone. Advancement in science has resulted in developing a new interest in social networking as well as overuse of cell phones by children. Children stay awake till late at night because of these gadgets which adversely affects their sleep pattern. As a result, they don‘t feel comfortable in the morning and their alertness and concentration is also impacted. This leads to loss of energy also. People should realize the importance of sleep which is a boon to us. Sleep deficiency results in many health related problems like diabetes, obesity, depression also. Hence, the children must be made to understand that they must have proper sleep so as to energise themselves. Meditation and yoga can help them a lot in overcoming sleeplessness. All bodily activities will return to their normal self and they will feel refreshed. Yoga and meditation are the best therapies and are an answer to present day lifestyle diseases. These will keep them stress-free which further helps in keeping good health and improves concentration power. Therefore, children must switch over to yoga, meditation to overcome stress and keep their composure. ―Common man's patience will bring him more happiness than the common man's power.‖ Name : Rohit Kumar Class : 10 C 34

A RECOMMENDED MENTAL HEALTH MODELS FOR SCHOOLS What does it take for a school to function as a well adjusted eco system of parents, students, teachers, community members, management, educational boards, the state and central governments? It takes a strong leadership, a committed team, tremendous dedication, planning, coordinated efforts, resources, will to execute and a growth mindset to achieve a school system that contributes to nation building in the true sense of the word. An often-neglected aspect, Mental Health of all stakeholders will have to take centre-stage if a school hopes to be fully functional. Let us begin by understanding the concept of a fully functional person. What does it take for a person to become a fully functional individual? Is it self-awareness, acceptance, self-esteem, a non-judgemental atmosphere, will to achieve one‘s best, ability to sharpen the saw every now and then, ability to empathise, ability to communicate? The list is indeed endless. Based on Maslow‘s model on the hierarchy of needs, self- actualisation or the ability to achieve one‘s best, doing the things we love and doing the things we want to do in a fully accepting non-judgemental atmosphere makes one a fully functional person. It is important for each member of the school system to want to self-actualise. This ―want‖ leads to immense possibilities and gives outstanding results every single time. So then, for a person to want to self-actualise, sound mental health, right from the attachment stage to the foundational years all the way to high school would be a stipulation. Here is a School Mental Model that I recommend. This model is backed byevidence- based research and recommendations by the WHO. We believe that mental wellbeing is essential to ensuring a child‘s best start in life. Schools— where children spend most of their waking hours— often recognize that addressing a student‘s mental health and social emotional needs lead to better outcomes. Students are healthier, happier, and more likely to succeed. Our SCHOOL is committed to helping students by implementing mental health strategies in school. This Model focusses on identification, early interventions, preventive measures & spreading awareness to ensure students mental, emotional, social & behavioural health. This will lead to improved academic performance and will place the student on the trajectory of success. Given a school‘s unique ability to access large numbers of children, they are most commonly identified as the best place to provide supports to promote the universal mental health of children. Let me briefly explain each of these components: Strong Life Data Gap Data Collection & Identification Skills & HPE Collection Assessment Developing mental health models in schools is a Identification preventive measure by which mental health Program Collaboration professionals analyse data ahead of time and design School Ecosystem programming based on need. This approach allows Enabling -Parents, stakeholders to assess the needs and develop Environment Students, services that truly address the academic, social and supporting emotional gaps. Schools have an obligation to create Community programming based on their students‘ needs. inclusion 4 Tiered 37 Support program

Gap Assessment Once the needs have been identified, the next step is to create measurable goals to address the gaps. This step involves a collaborative approach that should include school counsellors, mental health therapists, parents, teachers, administrators and students. Measurable goals provide a means for stakeholders to evaluate programming and help to ensure that it is supporting academic achievement.Gaps Could be in • School • parents Skills, Health (Mental, Physical, Psycho-social) Mental Psychiatrists Competencies, Attitudes Health Behaviours, Emotional Adjustment Professional Collaboration s Community Doctors & Services like Nurses social • immediate workers Community, Government • students Bodies The school now has to collaborate with parents, health providers, counsellors, community, peer students, Clinical Psychologists, government bodies, local police to provide assessment, support programs and intervention assistance to its students. 4-tiered support system Through a 4 layered support system, well designed programs are delivered at each level. Enabling Environment through a climate of Inclusion The school provides an enabling environment through: Strong Policies on all aspects of school functioning Understanding Relevance of Mental Health in Foundational Years Building a climate of Inclusion Happiness Curriculum Life Skills & Awareness Programs for all Building Emotional Awareness Helping Children accept themselves Targeted Interventions need based intensive Building positive self-esteem for some students interventions for few Accepting Diversity Awareness programs for Gender Sensitization parents Reducing Stigma around mental health Strong Child safety policies Capacity Building Programs for staff Many avenues for growth & development for teachers and students Well Designed, planned & executed Life Skill Program The school has a well-designed Life Skills Program that runs through the academic session as a parallel calendar for all 3 levels – Primary, Middle and Senior School students as well as for teachers. These are linked to WHO‘s 16 SDGs and are delivered through well designed age- appropriate activities. The Skills imparted are broadly categorised under 4 categories: We believe in building & advocating a strong climate of inclusion by encouraging all our children irrespective of age, race, religion, ability / disability to be ambassadors of mental health. All of this can only be a success if we understand that mental health matters and the earlier, we identify the earlier we can intervene with positive outcomes for the child, family, community and the nation as a whole. I end by inviting each of our readers to actively support the cause of positive mental health by having conversations with your children and helping us in your little way to remove the stigma around this topic. This will be your invaluable contribution to a safer and happier world for our children. HAPPINESS IS A DIRECTION, NOT A PLACE. What is happiness? It seems like an odd question, but is it? Do you know how to define happiness? Do you think happiness is the same thing to you as it is to others? Does happiness even make a difference in our lives? In today‘s world happiness plays the foremost role in our busy lives. When most people talk about happiness they might be talking about how they feel in the present moment, or they might be referring to a more general sense about what they‘re feeling. Happiness is such a broad term, psychologists and other social scientists typically used the term ‗subjective well-being‘. Just as it sounds, subjective well being tends to focus on an individual's overall personal feelings about their life in the present. True happiness is something that comes from deep inside. It comes from our hearts. Although we feel that materialistic things can make us happy, it is not true. A person who is wealthy may or may not be happy. However, a person who is happy is always wealthy. An optimistic person will always be happy. Moreover, such a person will be able to find pleasure even in the pain. Also, a happy person doesn‘t depend on others or external factors to make him or her happy. To be happy, one must first understand what real happiness is. The thing about happiness is I think something we‘re waiting for the big stuff to be happy… But happiness isn‘t always the big thing. Happiness is actually the little moments that make up a day. In a World full of misery, Happiness is Utopian Life is a journey of endless misery, crisis in all aspects is creating challenges… striking and turning man into his own enemy It is a basic human need to live a happy life. Great saints and mahatmas have been preaching ways to experience real happiness. A few of my worthy opponents have said that for real, lasting and stable happiness, one has to make a journey deep within oneself. But, in this fast- paced world where one is caught up with fulfilling one’s desires because we live only once, do we have the time and inclination to do that? It is difficult to remain happy in this world full of miseries. We are all entangled in a vicious cycle of misery. We run after wealth, success, comforts but end up being the most dissatisfied beings on this planet. Today happiness is measured in terms of wealth, social stature and rank. Why are money and material desires seen as villains that conspire to cause human suffering. May I ask you if you and I can do without the worldly comforts and pleasures? Can we think of a lifestyle without the gizmos, gadgets and facilities invented and discovered for our comfortable living in the first place? My opponents have been waxing eloquent about how to find happiness in the small joys which life offers us. But let me point out that happiness is an ephemeral condition... almost like a mirage we all seem to be chasing it to no avail! It is rapidly fleeting; here one moment and gone the next. At present, living life is very tough and happiness is elusive in these uncertain times. A host of challenges face mankind today: global warming, poverty, depravity of moral character and as if this wasn’t enough! There’s the novel coronavirus we all have to deal with now. Almost 7 months into the new normal and the effects can be seen…we can hear people committing suicides, depression, economic hardships and the school learning graph is at its all time low! And it is so easy to say that let us be satisfied with our lot. Isn't it funny that happiness still seems so far away no matter how much of our dreams we achieve? We finally graduate from school, but we're still unhappy because we're worried about being hired. Then we are worried about getting promoted. We finally get promoted but are still unhappy because with position come responsibilities. So when are we ever going to be happy?? 40 I will leave you with that to ponder on…and reiterate that IN THE WORLD FULL OF MISERY, HAPPINESS IS UTOPIAN…! Ankita Das , 11D

My War Gracefully stood there, the tree So small so weak. Cherished by the winds, The love of those around him, Grew the tree with joy. Threw all his worries and lived with peace, On top of that hill where we all sat. Where the bread tasted like chocolate, Where birds sang songs, Where animals lived in harmony, Where we stood, on top of that hill, Infront of that tree. Slowly grew the tree along with us, Both of us happy as ever, moved onward and forward. We flew high and high Like birds with open wings We were so happy, so young So ignorant, of the thunder approaching us. Came from afar the snap of a tree, And slowly but surely, fell down many. Where did the birds go? Where did the animals flee? Why has the meadow song stopped? Where is our tree? What happened to that tree? On top of the hill. Explanation: To me this poem represents the horrors of war. Where the tree is destroyed by someone who is unknown and in reality, we don‘t know who or what is the cause of war, the only thing we as citizens know is- pain. Pain to be lost in our own lands (here the hill which is the home of the character) and everyone suffers as thunder burns down all the trees. 41 Pranav Gosain 8 ‗H‘

A MY VIEW ON SCHOOL REOPENING It has been two years since Covid spread in India and the biggest harm of it is on the education system. In my view, these two years were the most difficult ones for me as I was not able to fill my learning gap. Even though technology has made studies a little bit easier, there is still a big difference between online and offline mode of class. Each of us might be getting bored…I don‘t know about you but I am getting bored for sure.I miss meeting my friends in person. Having video calls is just not as interesting! And I don‘t think there would be anyone who does not like speaking to his or her friends. The fun we had with our friends will get renewed and new memories are waiting for us in our school. These days are very important to be spent happily as in my opinion, when I will look back on these days, I don‘t want to regret that I didn‘t enjoy them and I think no one wants this…I want to make such amusing and delightful memories that one day I will be happy to be able to spend my school days gladly. So two years have just passed like nothing but we still have time. Let‘s get back to school!! Name– Shivika Giri, 8 G 42

NATURE'S GRACE Look out today, The wind blows me away, The smell touches my heart, Oh! God what an art. The cool breeze touches my face, And I see nature’s grace. The leaves on the trees are floating, The wind moves like it's boating, What an exciting embrace, And I see nature’s grace. The droplets of water on my feet, The shining water on the street, This is the beauty that we should trace, And I see nature’s Grace. By: Shelja Srivastava 8th F 45

LEARN FROM A PENCIL A pencil always allows another person to hold it in his or her hand . It never tries to slip or resist , only the holder is happy to hold it . Without the holder , it can do no word . It needs to be sharpened from time to time . For that its head shall be corseted into a little tunnel with a blade . It may be painful but without it , it is of no use . It is made but it is paired with an eraser . Once erased , it shall have the opportunity to correct it's mistakes . It is only when its head is down , that it shall be of use . If it stands with its head up , it cannot write . The most important part of it , what is inside . Its outer is just a cover to protect the lead in it . It remembers to leave its mark, wherever it goes . By: Palak Pathak 8B 46

EXAMINATION ARE A PAIN Examinations are a pain that we can‘t explain. All full of fear When exams are near. Exam are a pain For our energy gets drained. Brain says, ―No more stress!‖ Mind replies, ―I can do your best.‖ Exams do not let us sleep …in our ears we hear only a beep. Exams come and take away all the fun To fetch marks we begin to run. Targets are set We have to do our best. Burning midnight oil is fine Then only we will shine. Exams are a pain No student wants them again MD – Shaipuddin Sk , 8 E 49

„LOCKDOWN‟ BROGHT THE BEST OUT OF ME Staying away from school, is the hardest time I have ever seen, in short span of life of mine. We were locked down inside the four walls, Without any reason or rhyme. When I was afraid inside the doors, Corona outside gave a loud roar. Problem was big, where to now hide, It seems situation is difficult to be rectified. The schools are closed so the malls We missed the shopping and the cinema halls. But sitting and taking tension will not do, Crying on the circumstances will not take us through, Then I had a thought in my mind, The world is going on, we can‘t be blind. When I looked into the mirror, my talent I could clearly see This lockdown scenario brought best out of me. Seeds of Patience and perseverance germinated in me Opportunities hidden in worse situation now I can see How my mother is toiling to manage home, I can relate Her unnoticed efforts for us now I can appreciate. Fast moving mechanical world came to a halt, Tiny virus brought human race on knees to realize their fault. Spending time with dears is above all gains It‘s not money but happiness is in sharing pains I became more observant, helpful and fear free This lockdown scenario brought best out of me..
