IES MEDITERRÁNEO’S NEWSPAPER CARAVAGGIO A VERY TALENTED AND POLEMICAL ARTIST CARAVAGGIO, IN MY WORDS DEATH OF THE VIRGIN, 1606 Marta López Muñoz 2ºESO B Caravaggio was such a revolutionary artist. His life was very difficult with problems with the justice, polemical paintings and a strange death He stood out in painting since a very young age and he moved to Rome to have oportunities of doing it. There he used to paint a lot of paintings like ‘Musician’, ‘Lute Player’ or Fortune Teller’ and he became the most popular painter of Rome. The biggest controversy of Caravaggio’s life arrived when he was commissioned to paint a painting for the church of Santa Maria de Scala in Rome. He decided not to make a traditional painting, representing the crude reality. The virgin of the painting was one prostitute that mysteriously died. This painting was obviously not accepted in the church and he received a lot of criticism and threats Some years later, he had a fight with Tomassoni that had a tragical ending because Caravaggio killed him accidentally. Because of that he had many problems with justice and he had to leave Rome. A few months later he died
