Active Faith Family Devotion 2021-11-14 Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see. (Heb 11:1) At times, it's hard to trust my child now that he's or she's into their teen years. Some parents say that, and even more, think it. But let's consider this issue of trust for a moment. Faith means trusting, focusing entirely on God. It means believing that He exists, that He does what He says, and that He rewards those who honestly seek and trust Him. The starting point in trusting your teenager is trust in God. Why? There are three reasons. First, you've come to know God's reliability in your own life, and you can trust God to be working in the life of your children/teenager as well. God hears the prayers of His children, so when you pray for your child/teen, you can trust Him to work in their life, even if they are resisting God. Second, as parents learn to trust God in more significant and intimate areas of their lives, they learn to trust people, including their own teenagers. Even though their teenager is unreliable, God is still reliable. Third, the parent's trust in God can be a model for their teenager to follow. The most transparent picture of active faith in God that teenagers will see is their parents trusting God regarding them. We, as parents, are called to trust God in front of our teenagers so they can come to understand God better through our lives. We are to wholeheartedly place Him as our pattern. That's what we were made to do, and only then do we operate at our full potential. Faith is the gasoline on which our spiritual lives run. Not only is God trustworthy, reliable, and faithful, He also invests in us, His children. His most significant investment was to send His only Son, Jesus, to die on the cross for us so that we might have life through Him. And God continues to invest His riches, His reputation, His love in us even when we mismanage His trust repeatedly. Consider this: What businessman would continue to invest in a venture that yielded such low returns as God's investment in us? As parents of teenagers, we experience times when the returns on our investments of trust are low. It's at these times that we are most tempted not to trust anyone. It's at these times that we most need to trust God, then invest more trust in our teenagers. By doing so, we demonstrate active faith, living trust. Above all, Lord Jesus, you gave your life for us because you loved us. There is none like you, Lord. Help us to be ever learning about Your ways so we can live a godly and holy life to the praise and honor of God, having active faith and fully trusting in the fullness of your presence. Deliver us from the evil ones with your precious blood of Jesus, sanctify us, Lord. In Jesus' mighty name, we pray, Amen. 7
