Grammar Present verb \"to be\" Contractions are shortened forms of words, where two words are combined using an apostrophe ( ' ). Examples: is + not = isn't are + not = aren't I + am = I'm She + is = She's Avoid using contractions in We + are = We're formal writing (like tests or It + is = It's assignments). They can be used in Speaking and informal writing. These three sentences have the same meaning: She is not very happy. She's not very happy. She isn't very happy. When asking questions, only \"is\" and \"are\" are used. Use the correct one depending on the subject of your question (singular or plural?). Example: Subject: sister (singular) Subject: people (plural) What is your sister's name? What are those people doing? Is this your sister? Are they your family? A. Complete the passage with \"is\", \"am\" or \"are\". My name (1) .........i.s...... Muhammad. I (2) ......a...m....... from Malaysia.
