Introduction By Milla and Scarlett Team 20 has been making surveys and writing articles about the surveys that theywould like to share! Some surveys were about favorite animals like fantasy creatures, seacreatures, and lots of different pets! There were also some that were based off of thecreator’s favorite activity like crafts, reading, toys, gymnastics, and much more! The first step of our survey was to think up at least 10 survey topics and writethem all down in a Google Doc. Then we picked our favorite three. We conferenced withfour different kids and Mr. Mark. We chose our favorite topic. Then we opened a GoogleForm. We added the main topic and sub-questions. After that we conferenced with oneother kid and then with Mr. Mark. We recorded our prediction and why we predicted that. After that we took other kid’s surveys. Next we read all of the responses we got. Then weread our results again and took “quick notes” about what we noticed. We looked forthemes in the written data. We added these themes to our “quick notes.” Our final stepwas writing a journal article. Team 20 worked very hard on making the surveys and articles. We gathered all ofthe survey articles into one big book so people could read about the background of oursurveys, the steps we took, the data we found, our predictions, and some other surveytopics we could do if we ever did another survey. We hope you enjoy this collection.Happy reading!
Fantasy CreaturesBy MillaTeam 20Lewis Elementary SchoolIntroduction I chose to do my survey on fantasy creatures because I really like fantasycreatures! My favorite fantasy creatures are fairies, unicorns, and trolls. I have seenfairies and trolls but I haven’t ever seen a unicorn. I really want to see one though! Somenights I get a piece of paper and write a note to the fairies and leave it outside. The nextmorning I check to see if they came and sometimes they do and sometimes they don’t. Iwant to see what fantasy creatures other people like and if they like fairies, trolls, andunicorns like me! I also wonder why people will prefer the fantasy creature they pick. Ipredict that a lot of people will pick unicorns or Pegasus because they are like an actualanimal (horse) and because they are cute. I predict that mermaids will also get a lot ofvotes because they are pretty. I don’t think trolls will get a lot of votes because somepeople think they are just dirty, little, creepy creatures. The purpose of my survey is to see what kinds of fantasy creatures people like, why they like the creature they pick, where they learned about them, and are they thesame as what I prefer or I predicted. I wonder which fantasy creature will get the mostvotes!Procedure The first step of my survey was to look at articles former Team 20 students hadwritten and we figured out what they would do differently. Then we met as a team toshare what we found and used this to design our survey project. Then I opened a GoogleDoc and titled it Survey Project. After that I brainstormed at least 10 possible surveytopics. I chose my best three and made a 30 second pitch for each one. Then Iconferenced with three other kids and we each shared our three 30 second pitches. I gotfeedback on which one the other kids thought was best and I also gave feedback to themon the one of theirs that was my favorite. We also gave each other feedback on whichones didn’t make sense or weren’t very good. Based off of some of the feedback I got Ichose which survey topic I wanted to do. After that I conferenced with Mr. Mark. Then Imade an outline of questions for my survey and sub-questions. After I made my outline Iopened a Google Form. For guidance I used Survey Project - How to Create a Survey inGoogle Forms. As I built my survey I was thinking about my audience and how I woulduse sub-questions to get useful findings. When I thought I was done building my survey Iconferenced with two other kids and added some questions and made some otherquestions that made more sense. Next, I conferenced with Mr. Mark and we made morechanges to my survey. Then I wrote a prediction and why I predicted that. My survey wasfinished!
After that I took all of the other kid’s surveys and, so I could collect data, otherkids took my survey. To begin analyzing my data I turned off the accepting responsesbutton. Then I read all of my responses. Next, I read my responses again. I went to my“Survey Project” Google Doc and took “Quick Notes” about what I first noticed aboutmy results. Some results were automatically put into graphs, but the answers that werewritten couldn’t be in a graph so I had to code them. To code them, I looked for possiblethemes and added those to my Quick Notes. My next step was to “tell others.” To tellothers I wrote an article about my results. My article had a plan, a rough draft, and thenan edited final copy. The articles my class made had five parts to them. The parts were anintroduction, procedure, results, interpreting results, and new directions! Then Iconferenced with another kid on my article rough draft. Then I conferenced with Mr.Mark. And I published the article so it was complete! Results By doing my survey I found out if people liked fantasy creatures and what oneswere their favorites. I found out that 31 people did like fantasy creatures and six peopledidn’t like fantasy creatures. Most people said that they liked a fantasy creature that Ididn’t name and only one person said that they likes trolls. My next question was “Whydo you like that creature?” Out of all of my responders, four people said that they likedthe fantasy creature that they chose because they are that creature themselves, four peoplesaid that they just liked that creature because they think it is interesting or fascinating. Some people answered things that I didn’t really understand like, “Because it makes apolice sound.” The question after that was, “Do you believe in the fantasy creature you chose?”Sixteen people said that they did not, 15 people said they that did, and six people said thatthought it was real but now it is extinct. I wondered where people learned about thesefantasy creatures so I made that my next question. Eighteen people said that they hadlearned about the fantasy creature they chose in books. Two people said that they hadlearned about their creature on websites or YouTube. Seven people had learned about iton TV or in movies. I wondered if they only knew about the creature because of wherethey learned about them or if they had actually seen the creature. When I asked thatquestion, 23 people said that they had never seen the creature and 14 people said that theyseen that creature. For the question, “Have you ever seen that creature?” I got 37 responders.Fourteen people said that hadn’t. That means I should get 14 answers for the nextquestion because the next question was, “If you haven’t seen that creature, do you wantto? However, I got 29 responses, which means that some people who put that they hadseen the creature still answered that question. Twenty-three people said that they hadn’tseen that creature but they wanted to and six people said they haven’t seen it and theydon’t want to. Then I asked the question, “Where have you seen that creature?” Mostanswers were completely different. Someone answered, “In a garden,” and someone elseanswered, “At midnight in a secret garden.” Two other people said on computers andthree people said in movies.
Then I was wondering if they had always been interested in this creature. Twenty-two people said that they had always been interested in this creature. Fifteen people saidthat they had not always been interested in this creature but they are now. After that, Iwondered if they would want to turn into that creature if they could. Seventeen peoplesaid that they would want to turn into that creature if they could, 10 people said that theywould not, and nine people said that it would depend on their mood. That made me think, how much do people like their creature. No one rated their creature as a one, two, three,or four. I also wondered if people had made up their own fantasy creature. Twenty-twopeople said that they had made up their own fantasy creature and 15 people said that theyhad not. This isn’t completely accurate because 22 people said that they had made up afantasy creature and there are 25 people in our class. Everyone in our class made eco-critters during the fall and those are fantasy creatures. When I asked, “What fantasycreatures did you make up?” a lot of people named eco-critters but quite a few were noteco-critters. Some answers for that question were weird and I didn’t know if they werejust being silly or they really made that up. For example, someone wrote, “John theGreenbean.”Interpreting Results The results of my survey compared a little bit to my original prediction because Idid think that most people would like fantasy creatures but not everyone. I was right, most people chose that they liked fantasy creatures. I was also expecting for most peopleto pick the fairy, unicorn, or elf for their favorite. Most people said that their favoritewasn’t one that I named. Out of the ones that I did name though, unicorn and fairy tiedfor the most. The elf didn’t get very many votes at all though! I was also expectingpeople to believe in their favorite fantasy creature but there was more people who saidthat they didn't than did. I had a few surprises when I went through my survey results. I thought the elfwould get a lot of votes but it tied for the second to least amount. I also thought that thetroll would get a medium amount of votes but only one person said that the troll was theirfavorite! Also I expected more people to believe in the creature that they chose. Anothersurprise was that I thought there would be more people who made up their own fantasycreature because I make up lots of fantasy creatures. If I were to do my survey again I would put a textbox for the answer, “Other,” forthe question, “What is your favorite fantasy creature?” I would make some of myquestions more clear as well.New Directions I think It would be cool to do another survey based off of this one. I think someother good survey topics I could choose if I did another one would be what people’sfavorite kinds of cats were, their favorite ocean animal, or about people’s favorite kind oftree, flower, or nature! I also wonder what people’s least favorite fantasy creatures areand why they don’t like them. Those would all be good surveys, too!
Favorite PlacesBy McKennaTeam 20Lewis Elementary SchoolIntroduction I chose to do my survey on favorite places because there are a lot of differentplaces in this world and I want to know what those places are and what it is like to bethere. My favorite place is Timothy Lake, the place I go camping with family and friends.I want to see why people like their favorite place and what is special about it. I predictthat most people will say “home” for their favorite place. I predict this because at homepeople have what they need and they can use it when they want, like your mom and dadare mostly at home with you. So my prediction is that most people will choose home astheir favorite place. The purpose of my survey is to find out what people’s favoriteplaces are and why.Procedure To begin my survey I read other people’s surveys from last year. I had to thinkabout the steps to making a survey and to do that the team met at the carpet and thoughtabout how to design the surveys. We started with the phrase, “Go back to go forward,”which was made because we were going back and looking at people’s surveys from lastyear to think about what they would have done differently, and then we took their adviceand brought it into our surveys. To plan our surveys we brainstormed 10 or morequestions. Then we chose our best three and wrote down why they were our best threeand conferenced K2K2K2K. After the person who was sharing their best three topicsfinished everyone else gave them compliments and tips on how they could make it better. Then they said which one they thought was the best and made the most sense. I took theiradvice and made the one that made the most sense into my survey. The next step was to create my survey. I started by going to Google Forms. Iadded questions that were short answer, multiple choice, paragraph, and checkboxes. After we made the questions we also had to check to see if any of them were required tobe answered. If they were we had to turn the required switch on. Once we finished ourquestions we clicked the view button, which allowed us to look at what our surveyswould look like out in public. After our surveys were finished, we took each others. Thistook about three days until each of us finished all the surveys. Then they went out topublic! After our surveys had been out in public for two weeks, we got our data bylooking at all our responses. When we started to read our responses, we took quick notesabout what we noticed in our results. When we had enough quick notes we went on toGoogle Docs and made a survey article to share what we learned. We had to write fiveparagraphs. The introduction, the procedure, the results, interpreting results and newdirections. So that is what we did so you could read what you are reading now.
Results By doing this survey I found out what people’s favorite places were. 75 percent ofpeople responding were members of Team 20. For the question, “What is your favoriteplace?” four people related to personal places such as “my nana’s farm” and “Nanie andBoppies pool,” ten people related to states (North Carolina and California), five peoplerelated to attractions (Disneyland and an arcade) and 20 people related to outdoor andindoor places such as “the beach” and “my parents house.” For the question, “Why is thatyour favorite place?” 10 people related to outdoor observations such as “they have lots ofnature” and “I love the Blue Ridge and Smoky Mountains,” 10 people related to familyand friends. For the the question, “How many times have you been there?” 10 people saidthat they have been to their favorite place one to three times, five people said that havebeen to their favorite place four to six times and 21 people said that they have been totheir favorite place more than 10 times.Interpreting Results My survey’s results did not compare at all with my prediction. I predicted thatmost people would choose home for their favorite place, but only one person did! I wasnot expecting this. I think that having a favorite place is a valuable need because it meansthat you have a place that is special to you and to me that is my home. I thought that mostpeople would feel that way too. I got a lot of results, but not the results I was looking for.It was very different than my prediction. I had one surprise along the way of my results aperson did the survey like three times and said the same thing every time! If I were to dothis survey again I would include a multiple choice button that was for if you did nothave a favorite place.New Directions I think that I could build a good survey off of this such as “Where do you goduring summer?” or “What do you do during summer?” I would like to learn about thisstuff because it would be interesting to me what people do or where people go when thereis no school.CraftsBy ScarlettTeam 20Lewis Elementary SchoolIntroduction I chose to do my survey on crafts because I love to do crafts and I was wonderingif other people liked crafts a lot or a little bit. The crafts that I like to do are painting, origami and lots of other things. I like to do painting because it is exciting and creativeand you can make anything you want to make. I like to doing origami because you canmake 3D. I think that most people will chose that they liked painting. I do not think very
many people will like working with the clay. I believe that is true because I see lots ofpeople doing crafts like my neighbors, people in school and friends. The purpose of my survey was to see what crafts most people like and if I like thesame ones. I wonder which craft will get the most votes!Procedure The first step of my survey project was to read some survey examples from Team20 students last year. We thought about the steps to a survey and looked at what peoplelast year wanted to do differently. Then we met as a team to design our survey. Wethought about a saying, “Go back to go forward,” which meant by looking at prior workwe could see where we were headed. The next step to the project was to plan the survey. We opened up a new Google Doc and called it Survey Project. In that Doc webrainstormed at least 10 possible survey topics. Then each of us chose the three topicswe thought would work best. Next we got in our table group and everyone did a 30second pitch for all three of them. When the people listening to you gave you feedback itwas called a K2K2K2K conference. (Usually there is only K2K but we wereconferencing with four kids.) They not only give us feedback but they told us which onethey thought would be best. Then we picked for our self, related to the feedback we got,and we conferenced with Mr. Mark. We then started making our outline. In the outline we made sub-questions. Oncewe finished our outlines, we opened up a Google Form. To create the survey we startedby adding the survey questions and sub-questions in the Google Form. We madedifferent types of questions which were short answer, multiple choice, paragraph, checkboxes and some people did the linear scale. We changed some of the questions sothat they were required or not required. On some we added hint text. Then we took thepreview which means we took our own. We went to settings and made it so everybodycould respond. We thought about our audience as we made it. Then we conferencedK2K and with Mark. The fourth step of the procedure was to collect our data. We took each other'ssurveys in Team 20 as others took ours. The responses were focused and they were notsilly. Our next step was to analyze our data. First we turned off the accepting responsesbutton. Then we read our responses and read them a second time. On our second timereading the responses we made quick notes in Google Docs. In our written responses wecan’t make a graph so we looked for possible themes. The next step we did was thetelling others part. It was the final stage! The genre we were writing was a journalarticle. We made an introduction and focused on the back ground of our surveys. Thenext part to the article was the procedure which explained the steps of the surveys. Results are the next step in our survey project. We shared the results that we got in thatstep. Then there was interpreting results, where we talked about what surprises we hadand how the results compared to your original prediction. In new directions we said whatnew surveys are that could come off of this one and what we would do differently nexttime.
Results For my first question there was no respondents that said they don’t like crafts atall. Most people said they liked crafts a lot (20 people). The results for, “How muchtime you spend doing crafts a week?” was 26% for one hour and only five people choseabout three hours. For more than three hours there was 19% of people that did it thatlong. Almost more people than one hour said that they did crafts 15 minutes or less perweek! Not many people said that they did about 30 minutes (8 people). On my nextquestion only one person said there favorite craft was paper mache and I was verysurprised. Origami and other crafts got the same amount that was 21%. Only five peoplesaid they liked clay and 19% liked knitting. 10 people liked doing painting. In “Why do you like to do that craft?” a theme was people said that they thought itwas fun for a percentage of 58%. For example someone said, “I like doing that craft bestbecause I can be creative and make anything.” In “Where they learned this craft?” atheme was that they learned it from there parents or friends (21 people). In crafts peoplewant to learn, four people wanted to learn clay and six people wanted to learn knitting.Only five people said they'd learn origami but paper mache got only three people thatwanted to try to learn how to make it. Four people would learn painting. Some peoplesaid random things that they would learn that I did not list. For example someone said,“Macrame.” Someone else said, “Woodburning.” A theme for why you wanted to learnthat was that they hadn’t tried that craft yet. Or another theme was that they didn’t havethe things that they needed to do that craft so they couldn’t do it. For the question, “If you chose painting what do you like to paint?” most peoplechose they liked to paint animals (7 people). Only one person said they liked to paintthing from movies. 30% liked to paint other things. Only three people said they likedabstract and the same amount for plants. Only three people said they liked abstract andthe same amount for plants. In the question, “Do you like three dimensional art?” morethan three quarters of people chose yes (76%). Only 10 people said they did not likethree dimensional art. On the next question, “If you liked three dimensional art why doyou like it?” a theme was that it was fun and they liked how it felt. For example, someone said, “It’s fun and I like the texture.”Interpreting Results My results on the survey didn’t compare to my original prediction because Ithought that more than one person would chose paper mache and it didn’t even get asecond person to pick it. I understand why more people chose other things but I thoughtat least one person would pick it. By doing my survey I figured out that more peoplewould make origami, painting and not many people would chose to do clay, knitting orpaper mache. Some surprises I had were when most of the people that chose painting didn’tchoose abstract or plants that they might want to paint. More surprises I had were whensome people weren't giving focused answers or their answers would go off topic. If I were to do this project again I would make my words clearer so they makemore sense to other people. Like when someone said, “Cause I like to be creative,” on
the question that said, “If you said one for this question why?” and one meant that youdid not like crafts at all.New Directions A survey that I think could come off of this one is, “Why do more people (in a bigpercentage) like to paint things other than animals, plants things from movies and abstractpainting?” Maybe a survey I would do would be about an animal or to be specific itwould be about mammals or amphibians. I also wonder what people's least favorite craftis. Those would be a pretty good surveys, too!Favorite SeasonBy AaronTeam 20Lewis Elementary SchoolIntroduction I chose the subject favorite season because I wanted to know what other people’sfavorite season was, like mine is summer. Summer is my favorite season because you getto go camping, swimming, hiking, play in baseball tournaments, and have water fights. Ipredicted that summer would get the most votes because school is out for some peopleand they can do activities like going hiking or swimming. The purpose for my survey isto find out what other people’s favorite season is and what they like to do in thoseseasons.Procedure The first step of making our surveys was go back to go forward. That meant welooked at Henry’s example and Natalie's example from last year and to see what they didand what they could have done differently. Next we thought of three topics for oursurveys. The second step to our survey project was to brainstorm ten possible topics forour surveys. The three questions that came down to what I chose where Damian Lillardor Stephen Curry, Adidas or Nike, or favorite season. After that we brainstormed thirtysecond pitches. We conferenced K2K2K2K2K to find out which one would make thebest survey. After we conferenced in groups of four we met with Mark and conferencedabout what topic we chose in the K2K2K2K2K conference. We met as a team and talkedabout how to make our surveys in Google Forms. Step three was brainstorming questionsfor the surveys in Google Docs. When we brainstormed questions we conferenced K2Kto find out which questions would be the best for our surveys. We conferenced with Markso we could get our feedback to find out if the questions met the standard to make a greatsurvey. We typed our questions into Google Forms. Kids took kids’ surveys and thenother people from outside the school did, too. We took our data from our survey andanalyzed to make quick notes about what we noticed. We had to turn off our surveys so
no one could keep taking them. We read written responses and looked for possiblethemes in the responses. Our articles include an introduction, procedure, results, interpreting results, and new directions. Then we conferenced with K2K and with Markso we could publish our articles. Results By making my survey I found out what people’s favorite season was. Summer wasthe favorite by far, which 44.7 percent of respondents chose. Spring was next with 25.5percent. Fall was a close third with 23.4 percent. Winter was a distant fourth with 6.4percent. I asked what people like to do in each season. For winter, a majority of peoplechose outdoor related activities, mostly playing in the snow. About a third of peoplechose to drink hot cocoa, or read a book. In summer about 95 percent of people chose todo water related activities. For example, 22 people mentioned swimming. Other examplesincluded kayaking, slip and slide, tubing, or going down a waterslide. A few people wrotegetting ice cream at Cloud City. For spring, many people also chose water relatedactivities and about a third chose to watch NCAA Final Four or getting ice cream. Forfall, about half of people like raking and jumping in piles of leaves. About of third ofpeople like going to the park, and about a fourth of people chose to go trick or treating.Interpreting Results The results of my survey almost compared to what to what my predictions were. Iwas expecting Fourth of July to get the most votes because most people liked summer fortheir favorite season. Christmas got the most votes probably because most people gotpresents, or they got to see family that they hadn’t seen for a long time. I was alsopredicting playing in snow to get a lot of votes for favorite activity too because I knowthat a lot of people like to play in snow (especially kids). I was predicting for favoriteactivity to do in fall to get the most votes by people saying they liked to jump in leaves inthe fall. A third of people chose that activity and a half chose they liked going to the park.In spring a half chose they liked going to the park, and a half chose they liked to gohiking. Out of most of the seasons people chose hiking for their favorite activity to do inthat season. One surprise was someone said that they liked walking on a rainy beach.Another surprise is someone said they did not get winter in Florida. I think the twosurprises can connect into one. I think one more question I could have added was,“Where do you like going during that season?”New Directions I think a new direction could be a new survey topic like, What is your favoritesport?” or a survey about your least favorite season.
Favorite Ways of Getting AroundBy ChanningTeam 20Lewis Elementary SchoolIntroduction I chose to do my survey on favorite ways of getting around because I really likeriding my skateboard. My favorite skateboard is the penny board. It is like a cruisingboard but a mini version. It goes faster than a regular skateboard in my opinion. I thinkthis because my skateboard goes faster than my friends’ boards. Plus I want to see howmany people like to skateboard. I also want to see what everyone’s favorite way ofgetting around is. The purpose of my survey is to let people know what other people’sfavorite way of getting around is.Procedure To begin our surveys we looked at survey examples. Then we started to thinkabout going back to go forward. We thought about the steps to a survey when we met as ateam at the carpet to design our survey project. We began planning our surveys byopening up a Google Doc and we brainstormed ten possible ideas. We chose our bestthree and then we wrote thirty second pitches. With those thirty second pitches we did aK2K2K2K conference and got feedback from kids in our class. Then we conferencedwith Mr. Mark and picked our best one. Once we had our topic, we created an outline ofsurvey questions. To create our surveys, we went to Google Forms and added questionslike short answer text, multiple choice, paragraphs, check boxes, and linear scales. Weused tools like hint text and required questions to set up our questions. Then we started to think about audience because not all of audience was going tobe a part of Team 20. We conferenced with Mr. Mark to get more feedback on oursurveys. When we moved into the collect data step, everyone started to take each other'ssurveys and then we read our responses and then that's when we started to move onto thestep of analyzing our data. The first step was to turn off our responses and read theresponses. Next we read them and took quick notes in Google Docs. We also read thewritten responses and looked for possible themes. Now the last step was to tell others. Todo that we made this article. We started out with an introduction. Then we wrote aprocedure, results, interpreting result, and new directions. We published it and it wasdone! Results By doing my survey I found out that there are a lot of ways people like gettingaround. Of the people responding to my survey, 11 liked to bike, five liked to scooter, three liked skateboarding, and eight people liked getting around a different way. Mysecond question was, “What do you like to doing on this way of getting around?” Sixpeople like to do tricks, five people like going fast (that was a big surprise to me), four
people like getting exercise, one person likes it because it is easy, two people ride it toenjoy nature, two people like it because it is fun, and two people like it because they liketo pedal. My third question was how much time do you spend on your favorite way ofgetting around. Five people said they stay outside from 31-45 minutes, two people saidthey play outside 46-60 minutes, two people said they like to stay over an hour, twopeople like to ride around from 16-30 minutes, and 16 people like to ride around from 0-15 minutes. The next the question was, “Do you like going down hills or not?” 20 peoplesaid they did like going down hills and seven people said the they did not like to go downhills. My next question was, “Do you like to ride on smooth concrete, regular concrete orrocky concrete?” 20 people like to ride on smooth concrete, 2 people like to ride onregular concrete, one person like to ride on rocky concrete, and four people like to onother kinds of concrete. Then came my last question and that was, “How do you get homefrom school?” Eight people like to walk home from school, three people like to ride homeon skateboards, two people bike home from school, one person likes to scooter homefrom school, and one person said other.Interpreting Results The results of my survey didn’t really compare to what I thought it was going tobe. I thought a lot more people would choose biking, scooter and skateboarding a lotmore, but no. Of the 27 people who took my survey only five people liked to bike, twoliked to scooter and three people liked to skateboard, which that was unfortunate for mebecause I really like to skateboard. Some people that answered my survey don’t even goto my school. In fact some of them were adults. I wonder if that led to different responsesthan if it was just people in my class. I noticed that a lot of grown-ups like to bike a lot. Idon’t know why a lot of people did not like skateboarding, in fact I know a lot of peopleat the school that like to ride a skateboard. I had a few surprises when I was going through my survey. I thought a some ofpeople would choose bumpy concrete because some of the people liked to bike. Biking inmy opinion is really fun but not as fun as skateboarding. If I were to do this survey againI would make even more options of what people like to ride on the most. I liked mysurvey but I still think that I could make it even better if I did it again. If I did make itagain, I am sure it would be better because of how much I learned off of this one.New Directions If I were to make this survey again I would make a soccer vs wall ball survey. Ithink I should do that because a lot of people like soccer and a lot of people like wall ball.It would be an all out dual. If I were to make that survey again I would make a lot moreoptions because if a lot of other people like to ride on other things then the answer“other” would not have as much.
If You Could Go Anywhere In The WorldWhere Would You Go?By ReeseTeam 20Lewis Elementary SchoolIntroduction I chose “If You Could Go Anywhere in the World Where Would You Go?”because I like traveling a lot and I wondered if there were any interesting places I hadnever heard of. There were a lot of places I had never been or heard of which was verysurprising because I have studied geography a lot. Another reason I chose this topic isbecause I want to see if any of the places people listed sounded interesting. My predictionwas that most people would want to go somewhere that was not in the U.S.A. because itwould be easier to go somewhere in the U.S.A. then to go somewhere else. The purposeof my survey was to see where people would like to go and why they would like to gothere. I wonder where people would like to go.Procedure The first step to making our surveys was to take a look at some prior Team 20students’ survey articles. We met as a team and thought about the steps to a survey andwhat the prior team 20 students would have done differently. The next step to making oursurveys was to plan. We opened a new Google Docs and brainstormed 10 possible topics. Then we chose three of the topics and had K2K2K2K conferences where we shared our30 second pitches. Then we created an outline. The third step to making our surveys wasto create our surveys. We opened a new Google Forms and added our questions usingshort answers, multiple choice, long answers, check boxes, and the linear scale. Then wechecked the required button for the ones that were required. We thought about audiencewhen we created our questions. Then we conferenced K2K and with Mr. Mark. Thefourth step to making our surveys was collecting data. We took each other's surveys andread our responses. Then it was time to move to step five. We turned off the acceptingresponses button. Then we read the responses again and took quick notes. Now it wastime for the final step. We wrote an article, conferenced with Mr. Mark, and publishedthe article. Results By doing my survey I found out that four people would like to go someplace inEurope, six people would like to go someplace in Asia, four people said they would liketo go someplace in Australia and Oceania, 19 said they would like to go some place inNorth America and two people said they would like to go to a calm place like the countrywhich didn’t fit in any of the categories so I put them in a separate category. I identifiedfour themes for why people would go there. Four people said they would go there to play.
For example, someone said they would like to go there for Legos. Five people said theywould go there for animals like fish, penguins, etc. Eleven people sad they would gothere for family and friends. Nine people said they would go there for landmarks (EiffelTower, pyramids, etc.). I asked which of these countries would you go to Brazil, Cuba,New Zealand, or Egypt. New Zealand and Brazil tied with 12 people. Seven people saidthey would go to Cuba. Five people said they would go to Egypt. Then I asked why theychose that country. Four people said they would go there for the animals (fish, monkeys, penguins, etc). Thirteen people said they would go there because of the scenery. Forexample, one person said they would go there because “That's where Lord Of The Ringswas filmed.” Then I asked what season they would go there in. Eighteen people said theywould go there in the summer. Fourteen people said they they would go there in spring.Three people said they would go the in the winter. One person said they would go therein the autumn. Then I asked why they would go there in that season. Thirty four peoplesaid they would go there for the weather and two people said they would go there for theplants.Interpreting Result The results of my survey did not compare with prediction, I thought that morepeople would want to go somewhere not in North America because I think it would befun to go to a different continent. One surprise was that 19 people said they would gosomewhere in North America. That was a surprise because I thought most people wouldwant to go to a different continent. If I were to do this survey again I would ask whatthere favorite thing to do there was because I think that I needed one more sub questionto make my survey feel complete.New Directions Some surveys that could come off of this one are where would you go in theU.S.A. or where would you go in a certain state such as Oregon, California, or Arizona. Iwonder what the most interesting places people have been already. If I was to do anothersurvey I would consider doing this one!Movie GenresBy CarterTeam 20Lewis Elementary SchoolIntroduction I chose to do my survey on movies because I have always liked watching movies. My family always watches movies in our living room during winter because it is cold andrainy outside. We set up a whole lot of blankets on the floor and the couch, turn off thelights, and lay down to watch the movie. I like watching movies because some are funny,
some are scary, and some are filled with action like explosions. My prediction was that alot people would choose action movies as their favorite genre. I predicted that becausethere are so many action movies and people like the excitement of things like explosions. The purpose of my survey was to find out what people’s favorite movie genres and whythey liked that genre. I also wanted to learn people’s favorite movie in that genre.Procedure We started our survey project with reading last year’s surveys to get informationabout how surveys are made, the steps and processes. We thought about what those kidswould have done differently with their surveys. We met as a team to design our surveyproject. Then it was time to plan our own surveys. We made 30 second pitches for thetopics we were interested in and conferenced K2K2K2K. Then we finally conferencedwith Mr. Mark. We started a survey outline in Google Docs. After that we started ourGoogle Forms and asked all sorts of questions, such as multiple choice, paragraph, shortanswer, check boxes, and linear scales. Then we conferenced K2K and with Mr. Mark.We took our other classmate’s surveys and other people took our surveys. Then weturned off our responses so we could read through them. We wrote down the responses toorganize our results. Soon it was time to share our results by writing this article. Wemade a story map to outline all of the steps for this project. Then we shared our results inthe results section of this article. Results From looking at my survey results, I found that about half of the people who tookmy survey were 10 or younger. That means that some adults probably took my survey. My first question was, “What is your favorite movie genre?” A quarter of the peopleliked action movies the most, around 20% of the people liked comedy movies, 16% likedanimation movies, 11% liked horror movies, and 8% liked drama movies. My nextquestion asked why people liked that genre. There were so many responses that I couldn’twrite them all down. Some people wrote about Star Wars. However, so many of theresponses were different that it was hard for me to find themes.Interpreting Results My results were exactly the same as I thought they would be, which was that a lotof people would like action movies and comedies. Those are the same movies that I like.I think a lot of people liked action and comedy because there is a lot of good comedy andaction movies out there. My biggest surprise was so few people liked horror. If I were todo my survey again I would make it so you could pick as many movie genres as youwant, because a lot of people said that they didn’t know about certain movie genres eventhough they knew what movies they liked.New Directions If I were to make a new survey I would make it about pizza because I want toknow other people's favorite pizza. And I love pizza.
A Pet SurveyBy EleanorTeam 20Lewis Elementary SchoolIntroduction I decided to do my survey on pets because I have four (a hermit crab and threecats). Also, I love animals and I wanted to know if others liked animals, and if so, aboutwhat domestic animals were their favorites. I predicted that most people would have petsand prefer dogs over cats (although I LOVE cats). I thought that most people would havehad pets in the past. I did not have any predictions about people’s responsibilities withtheir pets. I predicted that most people would be of ages 36-50. I also thought that mostpeople would have cats and dogs. The purpose of my survey was to see which pets weremost popular so others would know what pets to adopt.Procedure First off we looked at survey articles from prior kids of Team 20. We called this“Going back to go forward.” We met as a team to talk about this and design our surveyproject. Next we brainstormed 10 ideas for survey topics. We then narrowed it down tothe best three and gave thirty-second pitches about each one during a K2K2K2Kconference. After hearing what our teammates said about our pitches, we decided on onesurvey topic and came up with some sub-questions for each one. Then, in a Google Doc,we made a plan for our survey. In a Google Form we then made our surveys usingquestion types like multiple choice, short and long answer, checkboxes, and rating scales. After the surveys were made, we took all of our teammates surveys and waited forresponses. Two weeks later, we analyzed our data with some quick notes in anotherGoogle Doc. Our final step was to write our article, which includes an introduction, procedure, results, interpreting results, and new direction sections. Results After doing my survey I found out many things about people and their pets. Formy first question, “How old are you?” 51.9% (27 people) said that they were 5-12, 19.2%(10 people) said they were 24-35, 17.3% (nine people) said they were of ages 36-50,11.5% of people (6 people) reported that they were aged 51-70; however, no one wasover 70. My second question, “Do you currently have pets?” was answered thusly. Threequarters of people (39 people) currently had pets, and one quarter (13 people) do not. Forthe question, “What kind of pets do you currently have?” I got the following answers.Eleven people only had dogs, nine people only had cats, and 13 people had multiple pets.Interestingly, only one person had neither cats nor dogs. For the question, “Have you hadpets in the past?” five people responded that they did not and 47 people did. To questionnumber five, which was, “What pets did you have in the past” I found that 31 people hadcats in the past, and 30 people had dogs. Forty-one people had multiple pets in the past
and six people had one pet in the past. Five people did not have cats or dogs in the past.Question six was “What pets would you have if could?” Two people were content withthe pets they had, and most people wanted exotic pets. Eighteen people wanted dogs, and15 people cats. Interestingly, 20 people choose neither dogs nor cats! My next questionwas, “Which do you like better, dogs, or cats?” Sadly to me, only 15 people (28.8%) saidcats and 37 (71.2%) said dogs. Most people liked dogs better because of loyalty or theirability to be walked on leashes or be trained (which, may I add, cats can also do if youare well learned in catology). The last question was, “If you have pets, then whatresponsibilities do you have with your pets?” Most people said food, water or walking thedog, as well as a variety of other things.Interpreting Results One of the surprises I had while doing my survey was that only one quarter ofpeople did not have pets. I thought more wouldn’t. Another surprise was that people saidthat they would want things that could never be pets, like a caribou or a seal. Other thanthat, most of my predictions were correct, like I thought that dogs would get more votesthan cats, but not that much more. If I were to do my survey again, I would have putoptions of different animals instead of a text box for the question, “What kind of petswould you like to have if you could?” This would have made sorting through my dataeasier and require less coding.New Directions If I were to do another survey off this one, it might be, “What is your favoriteanimal?” or, “What is your favorite type of cat?” These topics are near and dear to myheart and I also think my findings with both of those surveys would be very interesting!Playground EquipmentBy DelaneyTeam 20Lewis Elementary SchoolIntroduction I chose to do my survey on new playground equipment, because it could giveother schools ideas for a playground. I also want to know what some people would like ina playground. Some things I would want to add to our new playground is a swing set anda rockwall. I would also want to have more than three swings so that way more thanthree people would be able to swing at the same time. I wondered if a lot of peoplewould chose all of the above and I also wanted to see what people's age was because itmight reflect on their answer. The purpose of my survey was to see what people wouldlike to have for a new playground because my school is getting a new playground thissummer vacation.
Procedure The first step of my survey was to read surveys from the students last year. Afterthat we brainstormed ten questions and chose three to do our 30 second pitches on. Forexample one of mine was “One question I was considering is if you got a new playgroundwhat would you want for it? I am interested in this question because I want to know whatpeople would do on their new playground. Others should learn about my findingsbecause then if they do get a new playground then they might be able to get that.” That’sthe one I chose after I conferenced with three other people. Then I conferenced with Mr.Mark and created an outline of my survey questions. Step three was to create our surveyon Google Forms. After that we added questions and used short answer, paragraph, multiple choice (you can only chose one), checkboxes (you could check as many boxesas you like) and linear scale (it can go up to ten). When we were done we started to take each other’s surveys. We took everyone'ssurveys except our own unless we wanted to. After that we looked at our results. I had31! When I had read through them once then I read through them again and took notes. The last step was to tell others by writing an article with an introduction, procedure, results, interpreting results, and new directions, which is this survey article. Results Many people answered my survey, 31 to be exact. My first question was “What’your age?” One person said that their age was around five-seven, 23 said eight-11, oneperson said 12-15, and six said 20 or older. My prediction was not all correct but some ofit was. I thought more people would chose slide, swing set and other. Only 10 peoplechose slide, 13 people chose swing set and nine people choose other, which was asurprise to me. The thing that I was correct on was all of the above. I thought a lot ofpeople would chose it and they did. In fact 21 of 31 chose it. The third question was“How many things that you chose would you have?” Over half the people (18) chosemore than three, four chose three, six chose two and three chose one. The next question was “What would you do on what you chose?” There were lotsof different answers, but I found some things that were most common including 10people that said they would swing, four said slide, and six said climb. The question afterthat was “How large would the playground be?” The smallest size was the size of anoutdoor seating area, next biggest was the size of a small park, the next largest size wasthe size of a classroom and largest was as big as Oaks Park. One person chose the size ofan outdoor seating area, eight people chose the size of a small park, four people chose thesize of a classroom, and 18 people chose as big as Oaks Park. The next question was“How long would the slide be?” Almost three fourths of the people (23 of 31) chose verylong (about 30 feet), seven people chose long (about 15 feet), one person chose medium(about seven feet), and no one chose short (about five feet). After that question was “How wide would the slide be?” Two people chose verynarrow (two feet), 10 chose narrow (four feet), six chose wide (six feet), and 13 chosevery wide (eight feet). Next was “What do you already do at recess?” There were manyanswers, but I found two groups that were most common. They were four square and wall
ball. Ten people said they already play four square and seven already play wall ball.Second to last was “If you got the new equipment that you chose above, would you doanything different on it?” There were 18 people that said yes and 13 people that said no.The last question was “If you chose yes what would you do different?” Six people saidthey would swing, three said they would slide and all the other people that said yes saidthey would play.Interpreting Results The results of my survey were pretty close to what I predicted but not exact. I hadno predictions for my first question but I had some for my other questions. I thought lotsof people would chose all of the above and they did. In fact 29 of the 31 people chose it.I also thought lots of people would chose slide and swing set but not that many peopledid probably because they chose all of the above. I kind of thought more people wouldchose rock wall but only eight did probably again because of the all of the above. Ipredicted more people would type in something for other but only nine did and that was abig surprise to me. I again thought lots of people would chose more than three and I wascorrect. In fact over half the people chose it (18). If I were to do this survey again Iwould have probably asked “Do you want new playground equipment?” That way Iwould know if they actually wanted new playground equipment.New Directions I think I could do another survey off this one. Maybe I would do one on parks like“What would your park be like if you made one?” In the survey I would ask “Whatwould you name the park?” The reason I want to learn more about this is because Iknow of some parks and I’d like to know about what parks could be like if kids builtthem.Making a Lego SeriesBy ConleyTeam 20Lewis Elementary SchoolIntroduction I chose making a Lego series for my survey because whenever I have free time athome I make Lego villages and vehicles. I mix Star Wars, Ninjago, Chima and more. Meand my friends made a giant Lego village with ships, houses, weapons and more. My guythat I made is a Chima Crocodile body with see through blue chestplate with gold circularpieces on the front and back of it and a green Phase 1 Clone Trooper mask and a bluelightsaber with a shiny handle. I also made a giant ship out of the Lego set Cragger'sCommand ship. The boss is Lord Garmadon's body from Ninjago with a blue cape and aPhase 1 Star Wars clone mask with a gray rangefinder and in all of his hands there are
blue lightsabers. One of my friend’s guys has a Lego Ninjago Cole Snake Series bodywith the Star Wars Savage Opress chestplate a see through head and Snake Series Colesninja mask. The purpose of my survey was to figure out what people would do if theywere to make a Lego series.Procedure The first thing I did to start my survey was to brainstorm 10 questions or more. The next step was to find the best questions and write three 30 second pitches. Then wewould do a k2k2k2k2k conference. When we were conferencing k2k we would read our30 second pitches to each other. After that we said compliments about our pitches andonce we’ve read all 3 we chose the one that sounded like it would do the best and the onethat sounded like it made the most sense. After that we went into Google Forms. Whenwe were typing our questions on Google Forms a couple of the questions. After we typedour questions we often wrote, “Why?” to collect more data. We collected the data byhaving others take our surveys. Then I read my responses and took quick notes. I lookedfor possible themes and wrote them down. After that it was time to tell others and I wrotethe article. Results Doing this survey, I found out what people would call and name a Lego series ifthey were to create one. I found out that 99 percent of people like Legos and play withthem and 1 percent of people don't. Out of the options Star Wars, the Lego Movie andBlind Bags, Star Wars got 53 percent, the Lego Movie got 40 percent and Blind Bags gotseven percent. The average amount people play with Legos each week is 25 percent ofpeople play Legos most of the time which is like 7 to 6 days a week, 15 percent of peoplesaid sometimes which is about three days a week. For favorite Lego play feature, 18percent said flick fire, 18 percent said detachability, 18 percent said electricity, and youcan guess 18 percent said transformation and lastly 25 percent said other different playfeatures. Reading my results I learned what people would rate Legos and what they thinkin their opinion.Interpreting Results The results of my survey project compared with my prediction because I knew thatStar Wars would win out over blind bags and the Lego Movie, but what I didn't know isthat some people don’t like Legos. I mean how does someone not like Legos?!? Legosare like the future! This one guy once made a working house out of Legos, and someoneelse also made a working Lego car. I had a couple of more surprises to me were thatsome people didn’t play with Legos a lot. I guess some people don’t have that muchLegos these days. Besides all of that my survey went pretty much how I expected it to be.New Directions Maybe next time for my survey I could do, “Making a Lego Minifigure.” I couldsay something like, “What is your favorite Lego mask out of a Star Wars Phase 1 Clone
Trooper helmet, Ninjago ninja mask, or maybe Iron Man's helmet, and there’s way moreI could come up with but that would make this paragraph to long. I could also say, “Whatis your favorite Lego weapon?” In my opinion I would definitely say a light saber. Butthen there’s more options like some Ninjago, Chima and maybe some Nexo KnightsWeapons. The last question I would use in my survey would be, \"Have you ever made amade up Lego minifigure?” I know I have. There’s this one with a Star Wars CloneTrooper helmet, a Chima Crocodile body, a see through blue Chima chest plate, and ablue light saber that I made up myself.Art SurveyBy EliotTeam 20Lewis Elementary SchoolIntroduction I chose to do my survey on art because I really enjoy making art in my free time.My favorite type of art is shrinky dinks because they shrink and I think that is awesome!Another one of my favorite types of art is sculpting because I like the feeling of the clay.I spend most of my time doing art and sports on weekdays and weekends. I thought a lotof people would like “other” as a survey response because three choices for favorite kindof art is not that many. I thought that sculpting would come in second because personallyI like sculpting a lot and therefore I thought that other people would too. I made mysurvey because I wanted to know about who likes what kind of art. I also wanted to knowabout why that was your favorite type.Procedure The first step to my survey was thinking about the steps to a survey. We looked atwhat the fifth graders from last year would have done differently with their surveys. Thenwe had a “survey project meeting” to help design our surveys. We called this “going backto go forward, because we looked at examples from the fifth graders who did this projectlast year and this guided us moving forward. Then it was time for step two, planning oursurveys. We used Google Docs to create the outline and think up ten questions that wethought would make a good survey. Then we chose our best three that we thought wouldmake a good survey. After that it was time to create 30 second pitches for each of ourbest three topics. We had a kid-to-kid-to-kid-to-kid conference to get feedback for our 30second pitches and to choose the best of the best. Next, we had a conference with Mr.Mark to get some feedback from a different person on the best survey idea. After that wehad to create an outline of survey questions. Then it was time to create our surveys! The first step to that was to use GoogleForms to help us make our surveys. We used a variety of question types, including shortanswer text, multiple choice, paragraphs, checkboxes, and linear scales. Other things that
helped us were hint text, thinking about if some of the questions were required or not, using the preview feature to see how our surveys would look, and thinking about who canrespond. Editing our responses was the next step to our survey project. We also had tothink about our audience and how they would respond differently depending on who theywere. After we did all of that we conferenced kid to kid, and with Mr. Mark. Then it was time to collect our data. The first step to that was taking otherclassmates’ surveys. Other people took our survey that weren't a part of Team 20. Weanalyzed our data by first turning off our responses was first then reading our responses. We read them again and took quick notes as we did to capture what we noticed. We alsolooked for possible themes. Then it was time to tell others. The first step to that was tothink about the genre of this article. The second step was to make the introduction for thearticle that you’re reading right now, and then the procedure. Then sharing resultsconferencing and finally publishing our articles. Results Making my survey I found out a lot of information. Out of shrinky dinks, watercolor, and sculpting, the majority of respondents chose “other.” About 6% of therespondents said that they liked to do art at school, about 15% of the respondents saidthat they liked doing art outside, 17% of the respondents chose other, and 62% of therespondents liked doing art at home most of all. I noticed the majority of respondentsreplied that art made them more peaceful. I also noticed that a lot of respondents said thatthey did art less than an hour. I think that the most people who chose that were grown-upsbecause they like art a lot but some grown-ups just don’t have enough time to make it. Ithink it was tough for grown-ups to answer my last question because again grown-ups arebusy enough doing work. I have found a couple themes for my question, “Why is thatyour favorite type of art?” A couple of the themes were having to do with the art dryingfaster and the art being three dimensional. I also found a theme for my question aboutwhy you think that art puts you in a peaceful state. It is art making you meditative. Forexample some people's responses were, “When I do art it puts me in a meditative state,”and “When I do it I have a meditative state.”Interpreting Results When I made my survey I thought that clay would get a lot of votes. And it did! Infact 25 people said that they liked clay the most. However, clay did not get the mostvotes, “other” did with 31 votes. Watercolor was second and shrinky dinks got in lastplace. That was a surprise! I thought that shrinky dinks would get a lot of votes! As itturns out, not very many people either know about shrinky dinks or just don’t like shrinkydinks which is very hard to believe because everybody should like shrinking art. I mean, come on, it shrinks! Shouldn’t that be enough to get at least 20 people to vote for shrinkydinks? As you probably can tell I was cheering on shrinky dinks the most because that ismy favorite type of art. Another type of art that I was cheering on was clay, because I likethe way it feels when you sculpt it. A lot of people chose “other” so I decided to look atthe answers individually to find out what kind of art people chose if they selected to
choose “other.” Here are some people’s responses to other. Somebody said that they likeddrawing. Another said that they liked printmaking. I encountered a lot of different bumpsduring the time that I had to make my survey. The biggest issue was the grown-ups. Theyhad a lot to say about my survey. The comment that got me the most in disbelief was thecomment on how grown-ups like doing art, they just don’t have enough time to do art. That was part of my last question of “Is art one of your favorite things to do?” If I were todo something different about my survey I would change my last question about thereader's opinion about art because I thought that the question was hard for the grown upsto answer.New Directions If I were to make another survey, I think that I would zero in on what people liketo use for their favorite type of art. I would ask questions like, “What type of art tools doyou use the most for your favorite type of art?” and/or, “Why is that your favorite tool?”Sports & TechnologyBy HendrixTeam 20Lewis Elementary SchoolIntroduction I choose to do my survey on sports and technology because I’m interested in whatpeople like better because I like both, I play video games on my different consoles and Ilike to play sports such as soccer. I’m really curious to see what people prefer. I predictthat a majority of the people will choose sports because sports are more active than sittingon the couch and playing something like Angry Birds. The purpose of my survey is to seewhether people like sports or technology and why.Procedure At the start we read survey examples from prior Team 20 students and thoughtabout the steps to a survey then we answered the question: What would they have donedifferently? After we answered that we met as a team to design our survey. Then webegan to plan our surveys, at first we went on to our Google Docs, then we brainstormed10 or more possible topics, and we choose three of our best ones. For each of them wedid 30 second pitches. Then we did a K2K2K2K conference to pick our best one toconference with Mr. Mark so we could create an outline of our survey questions. Forthere, we started to create our survey in Google Forms by adding questions in GoogleForms such as short answer question, multiple choice paragraph, checkboxes, and linearscale. Then we needed to put in hint text for some of them, make some questions requiredand some not, make it to where people can go back and edit their responses, and make itso anyone can respond, not just people in PPS. Then we used the preview feature to
check if our work is finished. We could start collecting data by taking other people'ssurveys while people take our survey. We could check the responses as we were going. The next thing after we were done was to analyze our data. First we turned off responsesso no one could take our survey while we're analyzing our data. Then we read theresponses and made quick notes in our Google Docs to record what we were noticing inour data.. Then we went back again and read the written responses to look for possiblethemes. After that we started our journal article by writing an introduction followed by aprocedure, results section that used our quick notes, interpreting results, and newdirections. Lastly, we conferenced and we had a published article. Results I found out by doing my survey that for my main question 75 percent of peoplechose sports over technology and 25 percent of people chose technology over sports.Three people chose technology because they like playing video games. Two peoplechose technology because they are not good at sports or because they could get hurt.Eighteen people said they chose sports because it is more active. Twelve people chosesports because it is fun. 44.4 percent of people that took my survey said that their favoritesports are different from the ones that I listed. 27.8 percent of people (10) chose soccer for their favorite sport, five people chosebasketball, three people chose baseball, and two people chose football. Nine people chosethat sport because it is fun. Eleven people chose that sport because they’re good at it.Twenty-four people said they watch movies on technology. Nineteen people said thatthey watch videos when they’re on technology. Twenty-eight people said that they playgames on technology which really surprised me that only twenty-eight out of thirty-sixpeople play games on technology. Twenty-one people said that they listen to music andeight people said that they do other things while on technology. My next question was: How many video games about sports do you have?Twenty-six people said zero to three which didn’t surprise me at all. Four to seven tiedwith more than ten with five, which really surprised me that that many people have morethan ten sports video games. Eleven people said that they spend four to six hour ontechnology every week. Nine people said that they spend one to three hours ontechnology. Seven people said that they spend more than ten hours on technology everyweek. Six people said that they spend seven to ten hours on technology and three peoplesaid that they spend zero hours on technology. Fifteen People said that they have zero tofive technology devices. Eleven people said that they have six to ten technology devicesat their house. Seven people said that they have eleven to fifteen technology devices attheir house and three people said that they have more than fifteen devices.Interpreting Results The results were really different from my original prediction. I didn’t expect somany people to pick technology. But I did expect sports to win. Sixteen people said thattheir favorite sport was different from the choices I had put down which was really a
surprise for me for one of the other sports not to win. Every other question went reallyclose to what I predicted.New Directions If I were to do another survey I would do something like Technology and Readingor Sports and Reading. I could ask questions like “What is your favorite genre of books?”“Do you like reading more than sports? Or less?”Recess GamesBy ErikTeam 20Lewis Elementary SchoolIntroduction I chose to do my survey on recess games because I’m interested in what other kidsdo at recess like some like to play soccer and others like to basketball and some like otherrecess games. I also want to see if people like four square or wall ball better. I chose to dothis four square and wall ball survey because I like four square but I also like wall ball soI don’t know which one I like more. I’m going to see what other people think about myquestions that are related and similar to four square and wall ball, like which one do youplay more or which one do play more at recess? I also did it because I love playing allkinds of games. I would like to know which one will people like better four square orwall ball. My prediction is that a bunch of people will chose four square because I alwayssee other people playing four square.Procedure I started my survey by having a lot of questions, like do you like sports ortechnology better or do you like apples or oranges better? Then I looked at threeexamples that could help me pick the best one. I had a lot of questions and then I cameout with my three best. Then I wrote 30 second pitches and we conferenced on our surveyideas. It worked like this: one person explained his ideas, then after he was done wewould have one minute to say the good things and the bad things and give suggestions. Then I went on Google Forms on my Chromebook and then I started to make my surveyby asking a lot of questions that are related and similar to my question. Then I looked tosee if I needed more questions and I did need to put in one thing. I needed to put it so thateveryone that wants to do my survey can and not just the people in PPS. Then otherpeople did my survey. After that I answered some other surveys to help other people getresponses.
Results By doing my survey I found out that a lot of people have a lot of differentopinions. On my question “Do you like foursquare or wall ball?” I found out that 15people chose just four square, eight chose just wall ball, 11 chose both and five peoplesaid neither. The next question was “If you like foursquare, why do you like foursquareso much?” Eight people said that they like foursquare because they get to get people out,ten said that they like to play because it’s fun, three said because they like to play withtheir friends, and one said it’s a great pastime. My next question was “If you like wallball, why do you like wall ball so much?” In that question five people said that they liketo play wall ball because they like to move around, seven said they like it because it’seasy and fun, nine said they like to play wall ball because they like to play with theirfriends, and two people said it’s a great pastime. My next question was “In which grade did you start to play foursquare?” Ninepeople chose first grade, nine people chose third grade, seven people said that that theystarted in second grade, seven said that they started at fourth grade, three chose inkindergarten, and one person said they have never played four square in their lives. Formy next question, “Which grade did you start to play wall ball?” nine people said thatthey started to play wall ball in third grade, eight people said they have never played wallball in their lives. And five people said they played since first grade and another five saidthey started to play wall ball in second grade. And four people said they started to fourthgrade, three in kindergarten, and two started in fifth grade. My next question was, “Howmany times have you played foursquare so far this year?” I was surprised to see that nine people said they have played 1-10 times and otherssaid that they played foursquare 11-30 times this year. Ten people said they like to playevery recess, eight chose more than 30 times, and five people said they have not playedfour square this year. For the question, “How many times have you played foursquare sofar this year?” I got 14 responses that people have not played wall ball so far this year andeight people said they have played 1-10 times this year. Six put that they play it prettymuch every recess, six that people play it 11-30 times, and five people said they play itmore than 30 times. My final question was, “What have you played most this year wallball or four square?” Twenty-four people said they like foursquare and 15 people saidthey like wall ball.Interpreting Results I was surprised that foursquare was the one with the most votes. I thought wall ballwas going to get the most votes. I also thought that in the last question foursquare wasgoing to get less than 24 votes. I did not expect wall ball to get very few votes in mysurvey because I see most of my classmates playing wall ball at recess so I thought thatwall ball was going to get a lot more votes than it did on my survey project. If I had tomake this survey again something I would do differently is next time I will put a littlemore of options in my survey.New Directions
If I were to do this survey again I would make a survey about basketball andsoccer and see which sport is more liked. Another survey possibility is what kind ofmovies do people like-- action or comedy or family or scary or sad.Would You Rather Live in the Country orCity?By GracieTeam 20Lewis Elementary SchoolIntroduction I choose to write my survey on would you rather live in the city or the countrybecause I love the country but I live in the city. I thought, why not find out what people'sopinions are about the country and city? I did live in the country for two years; although,I don’t remember much of that time because I was really young. I predicted that morepeople would rather live in the country than the city, because the city has a lot of noiseand the country offers peace and quiet. I also predicted that a lot of people do have familymembers that live in the country. I thought that people would write that they go hikingand ride horses when they go to the country. I thought that people would write that theygo shopping and to parks when they are in the city. The purpose of my survey was tofind out if people like the city or country better and why and what they have done whenthey go there.Procedure To begin my survey project, I read two survey examples by Henry and Natalie, sixth graders who were in this class last year. After that I opened a new Google Doc,titled it Survey Project and brainstormed 10 possible survey project questions. Next wechose three of them and wrote 30 second pitches for each of them. Next we conferencedK2K2K2K and shared our three 30 second pitches to get feedback toward which one weshould do our survey on. We also conferenced with Mr. Mark to finalize our surveyquestion. Then we created an outline of possible survey questions and some sub-questions and created our surveys in Google Forms. For guidance, Mr. Mark made adocument called How to Create a Survey in Google Forms. As we were creating oursurveys we considered using some of the following questions: How will you constructyour survey around your intended audience? How will you use sub-questions to yielduseful findings? Next we conferenced K2K about our surveys to add and change things. We also conferenced with Mr. Mark to make changes to our surveys. Results
Doing this survey, I found out that more people liked the country than the city. 20people said they would live in the country and 18 people said they would rather live inthe city. One of the first questions I put in the survey was, “Do you have any familymembers that live in the city?” Around eight people said, I don’t know. I also asked, “Doyou have any family members in the country?” I predicted that a lot of people would sayyes and my prediction was correct! 68.8% of people who took my survey said yes,21.1% said I don't know and I asked “Do you have any family members in thecountry/city?,” because I have always wondered where you would rather live and whyyou would live there. Another question was “What qualities draw you to the country?”27 people said peace, 27 people said clean air, 33 people said nature, and 16 people saidhorses. I also asked the question, “What do you do when you go to the city/country?”Many people said for the country things close to hiking and horse riding and swimmingand playing with animals. Many people said for the city that they usually shop, play atparks, and eat at fancy restaurants. In conclusion, this survey answered the question Ihave been wondering forever.Interpreting Results I found out that some of my predictions were correct! My results compare to myprediction because I thought that country would get the most votes and my prediction wascorrect! What I would have done differently during this project is add more questions offof the main idea. This would have given me more information for writing the article.Another thing I would have done differently is add the question, “Would you live there tobe with family?” I was surprised that a lot of people (when I asked the question aboutwhat qualities would draw you to the country) said hiking. I didn’t even think about itwhen I was making this survey, but that is a good idea to do in the country. So what Iwould have done differently would be to add a question about what is your favorite thingto do in the country and city.New Directions If I were to do a different survey off of this one it might ask, “If you could choosea country which one would you live in?” (The kind of country like the United States, notthe kind with all the fields.) I might be able to get some good questions off that! I alsowonder, “Why you would you live in that country?”Building a Lego SeriesBy IraTeam 20Lewis Elementary SchoolIntroduction
I chose to do my survey on Legos because I like building Lego sets. I like doingthis because it is fun to do when you get a new Lego set. I also like building Lego setsbecause it is also something to do when you are bored. My favorite Lego sets are Legostar wars. I am really interesting in Legos. I made a big Lego village and made up myown minifigure. I have been wanting my Lego village to be a Lego set. My Lego guy isan inventor, a bounty hunter and a Star Wars jedi. My biggest Lego set I got was calledthe Republic Gunship. It is Lego Star Wars. I predict lots of people like Lego setsbecause there are many of them.Procedure My first step was to read survey examples. We met as a team and shared some. Then we had to plan surveys. We choose our three best topics and wrote 30 secondpitches. We did a k2k2k2k2k conference. After that we created our surveys. We went toGoogle Forms and conferenced kid to kid and with Mr. Mark. Then we collected somedata. Other people took our survey and did responses. Then we analyzed our data. Weturned off our responses and then read the responses. We wrote down what we noticed. Then we told others. We wrote an article, conferenced and published our findings. It wasfinally done. Results When I looked at my survey I saw that some people like building Lego sets andsome don’t. 83% put yes for building Legos sets and 16 % put no for building Lego sets.I think yes got more because it is fun to do when you get a new Lego set. I think no gotlittle because those people don’t have any Legos, or they play with other things. Now onthe linear scale. Most people put five for it and less people did one. The five got morebecause they play with Legos a lot. The one got little because they don’t play with Legos. That sounds bad to me that people don’t like to play with Legos. 53% put that they playLegos less than a hour and 23% put more than three hours and 23% put 1-3 hours. Thenwhen I looked at where people like to play with Legos, I saw that most people like toplay with Legos inside than outside. Finally I looked at what was people's favorite Legoset. Seven people picked Lego Star Wars, four people picked Lego ninjago, four peoplepicked Lego Minecraft and most people picked other ones.Interpreting Results The results of my survey project kind of was my prediction because lots of peoplewould play with Legos inside. I could also see why people like building with Legos. They like building with Legos because it is just super fun! I was also am happy becausemost people picked five on a scale of one to ten. It kind of made me sad because mostpeople picked they like playing Legos less than a hour. I don’t know why those peoplewould not want to play more than three hours. My prediction was right for where peopleplay with Legos. More people like to play with them inside then outside. My predictionwas wrong for what was your favorite Lego set. I predicted that Lego Star Wars wouldget more. But it didn’t. I wonder what kind of Lego set is your favorite.
New Directions I think I could do another survey like “What is your favorite movie? “What is yourfavorite candy?” “What is your favorite thing to do at home?” I also wonder whatpeople’s least favorite Lego sets are. That will be a nice survey too.Favorite Book SeriesBy JakobTeam 20Lewis Elementary SchoolIntroduction I chose “What’s Your Favorite Book Series” because lots of people like to readlike me. I read a lot at home. I usually read scary books like Coraline. Usually books I getfrom the library for kids are not scary enough. There's lots of books out there that I reallywant to read. I really want to see how many people will vote for books like Shiloh andHarry Potter. I really hope lots of people vote for those two.Procedure Our first step was to read survey examples by some people from Team 20 lastyear. We met as a team and designed our survey project. We discussed what kids wouldhave done differently. We went back to go forward. Our second step was to plan oursurvey. We created an outline, conferenced with Mr. Mark and made 30 second pitches. Our third step was to create our survey. What we did to do that was add questions andthen went to Google Forms. We conferences kid to kid and with Mr. Mark. For step fourwe collected data by taking surveys. Then other people took our surveys and then we gotresponses. For step five we analyzed our data. We turned off the responses tab so nobodycould take our surveys. Then we read the responses. We read them again and took quicknotes in Google Docs. We read our written responses and looked for possible themes. Finally for step six we told others. We did this by using the genre of journal article. Wedid our introduction and background, did a story map procedure to outline the steps, wewrote the results and conferenced and published this article. Results By doing my survey I found out people’s favorite book series. Lots of peoplechose Harry Potter and Diary of a Wimpy Kid. The theme was mostly non-fiction andmagic. For the question, “Which of these series would you like to read?” most peoplechose none of them which was 12 (35.3%). Shiloh and Harry Potter were tied with voteswhich were both 10 (29.4%). The least amount of votes was Wildwood which was onlyhad two percent of the votes. For “Which kinds of books you like?” people voted forscary, sad, funny, and other. Five percent chose scary. 11 percent chose funny, 18 percent
chose other which had the most votes. I could tell that most people were going to chooseother because lot’s of the votes for “What’s your favorite book series?” were for actionbooks and other books that didn't have scary, sad and funny. Zero percent choose sad.Interpreting Results The results of my survey compared with my prediction because I thought “other,”which is like all the other books I didn’t chose, would win. Actually it did. I could tellthat it would win because lots of votes that people had chosen for books had other thingslike action. I thought that a couple of votes would choose sad but no one choose sadwhich was surprising. I didn't vote for sad, but it was surprising that no one did sad. Iknew that no one was going to really chose Wildwood and I was right. I knew that mostpeople would chose “other,” which like I said above is all the books I didn’t choose in mysurvey. I was right. The vote was 35 percent.New Directions I think that I could probably do something next time, kind of the same thing as“What’s Your Favorite Book Series?” Maybe I could do “What’s your favorite moviesseries?” like maybe Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, the Harry Potter series of movies andother things.Ice Cream FlavorsBy LuluTeam 20Lewis Elementary SchoolIntroduction I chose to do my survey on ice cream, because I thought it would be interestingand a lot of people like ice cream. My favorite ice cream is Rainbow sherbet and Mint.My prediction was that a lot of people would like the common kinds of ice-cream likechocolate chip and vanilla. I was wondering why people like the ice-cream that they like. The purpose of my survey was to learn more about what kinds of ice cream people likeand why.Procedure For the procedure the first thing we did was read a couple of last year’s surveys. We had these worksheets that had some questions on them like: What would the kids lastyear have done differently? We had to look in the paragraphs to answer the questions. When we were done we got into a circle and we brainstormed ways to start our firstjournal article. The next thing that we did was brainstorm 10 possible survey questionsand then we picked the best three. We made 30 second pitches and conferencedkid2kid2kid2kid to get some feedback on which one they thought was the best. Once
everyone was done with their 30 second pitches, we would sign up for a conference withMr.Mark. Next we created an outline of survey questions. We opened a Google Form andthen added our questions with either short answer, multiple choice, paragraph, checkboxes, linear scale or hint texts. We got to choose which questions were requiredand ones that weren't. When we were done with setting it up we conferenced kid2kid andwith Mr. Mark. The next step was to wait for people to take our surveys and to take eachother's surveys. That was how we collected our data. First we turned off the survey sono one could take it. We read the responses and read them again just to make sure. Whilewe read we made quick notes about what we noticed. Next we had to read all of thewritten responses and look for possible themes. The last step was to tell others. First wewrote an introduction about why we wanted to do the topic we chose. Results Doing this survey I found out what kinds of ice creams people like. Thirty-sevenpeople like ice cream and two people kind of like ice cream. Nine people get an extralarge, one person gets an extra small, one person gets a large, 17 people gets medium, 11people get small. Six people liked cookies and cream, five liked coffee, one person likedrainbow sherbet, three liked chocolate chip, as well as black raspberry crunch, six likedchocolate chip mint, four liked birthday cake, two liked Reese's peanut butter and 18liked none of the ones I put down. For the question, “Why is that your favorite ice creamflavor?” most people liked that flavor because their favorite topping was in it. Forexample, a lot of people like the mint. For the question, “What ice cream store peoplehave been to? 32 people have been to Cloud City, 18 to Nectar, 36 to Dairy Queen and 25to Baskin Robbins. Sixteen people like a cone better than a sundae and a Blizzard, onepreferred a Blizzard and 23 liked the sundae. Some of the reasons people liked the sundaewas because they are not as messy and they are big. Some of the reasons people liked theice cream cone more is because they like the taste of the ice cream cone. I also asked thequestion, “If you were to make your own kind of ice cream flavor what would it be?”Most people put that they would like to put their favorite candy in it.Interpreting Results Some of my survey was not like I predicted. I thought that a lot of people weregoing to like rainbow sherbet the best because I think it taste’s so good, but only oneperson liked it. I also thought that a lot of people were going to like a Blizzard morebecause there is more in a Blizzard than in a cone and it is less messy, but there was onlyone person that liked it. I was surprised that a lot of people liked a sundae a lot betterthan a cone. I was not expecting for such few people to like chocolate chip. If I were todo this survey again I would ask what they want to try that is new to them.New Directions I think I could do another survey off of this one. I would probably do it on adifferent type of food like, “What is your favorite type of fruit?” or “What is yourfavorite type of food and why?” I think either one would be great!
PresidentsBy TerraTeam 20Lewis Elementary SchoolIntroduction I chose to do my survey on presidents because I wanted to know what peoplewould do with the U.S under their control. Of course people would help the world, andall that normal stuff, but I thought, “What if I went deeper into the data? What if there’smore to being the president than just drinking a cup of tea or two while making somedecisions?” I have known for a while what I would do as president: help the homelessand make it so there is no littering anywhere in the U.S. However, the question in mymind still remained: What would others do? Would they take this chance to help others inneed? Or would they just sit back with people fanning them by a pool? I predicted that most people would do things to help the world because why wouldanyone leave the homeless? I have had many moments of sorrow when driving byhomeless people on the streets. It’s heartbreaking to me, and I predicted others will havethe same feeling as me. The purpose of my survey is for others to look at the questions and think, “I canhelp make that change” and, “I can do a couple of these things to help the world.” I don’tknow if others are thinking about helping others, but I certainly hope people take thesurvey findings that follow and make the U.S strong. Then we could survive the steepestmountains and the snowiest days! If people took that chance, it would be a miracle!Procedure The first step of my project was to think about the steps of the survey -- to reallyknow what to do and what to think. Then I “went back to go forward,” which is what wecalled reading Team 20 alumni’s survey articles. We met as a team to design our surveysfrom what we learned while reading. We talked about what the alumni would’ve donedifferently if they would have done their surveys again. Then came planning the survey. Iwent to Google Docs and brainstormed 10 possible topics for my survey. I chose my bestthree and then started making thirty second pitches. I did a K2K2K conference to getinformation about each of the three possible topics for my survey and picked the best, most interesting one. I then conferenced with Mr. Mark to confirm the topic I chose. It was time to build my survey. I went to Google Forms to create my survey. Iadded questions that fit the survey topic. A couple of the question types were shortanswer, multiple choice, paragraphs and checkboxes. I showed my final copy to Mr.Mark and other kids. Then I collected data by having others take my survey and gaveothers data by taking their surveys. Then I took a look at my responses, and just left itlike that for two weeks. The next step was to analyze my data and responses. I turned offthe responses so I could take a look at my data without any more responses coming in. Iread my responses to get a sense of the data and read them again to take quick notes. The
quick notes were for putting my responses into organized groups. I then took a look at myquick notes to look for themes that a category followed. Then I began writing my articleabout my responses and predictions. First I wrote my introduction. Then I organized astory map, which I used to write the procedure (which is this). My final steps were towrite my results and new directions to my article. Results Doing this survey, I found out what people would do if they were President of TheUnited States of America. Some people said that they would do things for the world thatdidn’t help like “I want all the pets to be for free.” While others were caring about theworld by saying, “I want no trash to be thrown in the ocean” and, “No homeless people.”When I asked the question, “Why would you change that?” most people said, “To makeothers happy,” which means they chose something that really mattered, like, “College tobe less money so more people can attend.” On the next question, barely anybody said they wanted to be the ruler/king/queenof the world/US. Most people said they wanted to make others happy, which means theycare about others, and not just themselves. In one of the questions I asked, “What wouldyou invent to help the world?” There were choices like, “A cake the size of the moon,”which showed being selfish. Then there were questions like, “A time machine.” Thechoice that got the most votes was, “A hospital that no one would die in,” which means ifthey had a surgery, they would live no matter what. Worst sickness ever? They wouldsurvive that, too. They could survive no matter what the case. For the next question, I asked everyone, “What would you do as president of theU.S.?” Mostly everyone said, “I would never just get what I want! I want to make theworld a bigger and better place to be!” which shows being unselfish. On the second tolast question, most people typed in things like, “I chose that being the president is aboutserving others.” I totally agree. It’s not about serving yourself, it’s about serving others. On the last question, most people said they would be so-so with being president of theUS. I would agree. The pressure, the meetings, the money, the decisions. It wouldn’t beeasy. I had some problems with gathering my data. For example, some answers werethings like, “The whole world to be a Minecraft world.”I didn’t know what group to putthose in because they just seemed like silly answers. I chose to focus on the answers thatmattered.Interpreting Results The results of my survey were similar and different to my predictions. For the firstquestion about what people would change if they were President, I thought everyonewould say things that would help the world, but actually a quarter of the responses werethings that didn’t matter. What a shock! On the next question, I thought that the option,“It would make people survive the hurtful things bad people put upon us” would get theleast votes because of its depth and the taste of emotion, but it actually got the secondmost votes with 20. The next question was, “What else would you change?” My theory
was that half of the people would want to be the ruler, because who wouldn’t want to bethe boss of the world? However, one person actually voted for that! Most people actuallyvoted for people to be happy, which is being much more unselfish. On the next question,I put down a choice that said, “Make a hospital that nobody would die in,” but I thoughtthat it was a little weird and random, and I thought nobody would vote for that. In fact, itgot the most votes, which surprised me immensely. On the second to last question, Ithought people would say simple things like, “Make the world a bigger and better placeto be,” but actually most people said more complicated things like, “Being the presidentis about serving others.” On the last question, I thought that everyone would LOVE beingthe President of the United States of America, but actually the most option that got themost votes was “I would be so-so with being the President of the United States ofAmerica.” This really surprised me.New Directions I think I could do another survey off of this one. I would do one about being rich. What would people do with all the money? I also wonder what people would do in theirspare time as President of The United States of America. That would give me morevaluable information.SuperpowersBy TyraTeam 20Lewis Elementary SchoolIntroduction I chose to do my survey on superpowers because I like to watch the Avengers withmy father on the couch and I thought that it would be a good article. I thought that peoplewould be interested in my article about superpowers. I wonder if people would’veprefered me to include a superpower that can go with any of the ones that got more likesuper speed and put a different superpower with it. I think people would like if I putteleportation because it’s fascinating and powerful for a superpower. The purpose of mysurvey is to see what the people prefer more and to see which superpower will get themost votes.Procedure To begin this project, first we read Natalie's survey article example from last yearto see what she what she did and what she would do differently. Then we thought aboutwhat we needed to do to make our survey look neat. We opened a blank Google Doc. Wewrote down a list of what we were going to write are survey about. We wrote at least 10survey ideas then we picked are best three. Then we did a K2K2K2K2K conference andshared these ideas. Afterward we picked our favorite one. My favorite one was the
superpower so I did mine on it. Finally we conferenced with Mr. Mark. We createdsurveys in Google Forms. Finally after two weeks we closed our surveys and read ourresponses. After that we took quick notes about the responses we got. Then we looked forthemes that would be good for our survey. We conferenced with teammates and lastlypublished this article. Results Doing this survey, I found out which superpower people like the most and whythey like it. The first question was whether people would prefer to be invisible or able tofly. The results were 50% to 50%. A person said fly because, “They can go 100,0000 feetin the air.” Another person said to be invisible because, “I can take donuts and nobodywould know.” For the second question I found out that most people would prefer superspeed more than super strength. Super speed was 88.2% and super strength got 11.8%.One person chose super speed because, “They can get stuff done quicker.” Anotherperson wanted super strength because, “They can pick up the whole school.” The thirdquestion was that more people picked laser eyes than freeze breathe. 58.8% for laser eyesand 41.2% for freeze breathe. Why a person chose laser eyes was because, “Ice melts.”Another person chose ice breathe because, “I could freeze people.” One problem I hadwith my results was that some of my responses were confusing to read because I didn’tknow whether the responses were related to which answer.Interpreting Results The results of my survey did not compare with my prediction because I thoughtfor the first one that more people would have picked invisible but they were both equal. Imean you can do a lot more things if you are invisible but half of the people picked to beable to fly. I had a few surprises when I looked at my data. I was wondering why so manymore people picked super speed than super strength for their votes. I thought that superstrength would get the most votes but I was wrong. If I were to do me survey again Iwould’ve asked different questions that made people really think about it. For example, some people answered the questions really quickly and might have rushed through. Tomake them slow down, I would have asked harder questions.New Directions I think I could of done way better with my questions. I really wanted people tothink about their answers deeply before responding. Maybe they would’ve had a hardtime on to figuring it out. For example, I could ask better questions about super powerslike telekinesis or teleportation.
What is Your Favorite Video Game?By KoiTeam 20Lewis Elementary SchoolIntroduction I chose “What is your favorite video game?” because I wonder what peoples’favorite video games are. Personally I like video games I like Minecraft, Terraria, andRoblox. The games that most people play very popular or were very popular. Videogames are my favorite thing to do during my free time and I do other stuff too. Most ofthe time I play videogames with my friends like Carter and Collin. If you are a beginnerat a certain game, watch YouTube and see what the basic things to do in the game. Iwonder if people play certain games.Procedure The first step in creating my survey was to read survey examples from last year. Then I brainstormed ten questions. I went to Google Docs and choose 3 topics andprepared 30 second quick speeches. Then I had a K2K2K2K conference with myteammates and then with Mr. Mark. Next I created an outline for my topic. Then we hada K2K conference with other kids and one with Mr. Mark. After that we went on toGoogle Forms to create our surveys. Then we took surveys and took other people tookour surveys. After we got all the responses we turned off the responses and read them andorganized what we noticed about our results in Google Docs. Then we wrote andpublished this article. Results By doing my survey I found out people’s favorite video games. More people(54.3%) play other games than Angry Birds, Minecraft, and Terraria combined. Oneperson liked Terraria (2.9%), 13 people liked Minecraft (37.1%) and 2 people liked angrybirds (5.7%). I saw that two people liked sports games and three people did not like videogames. I noticed some themes for why people chose the game that they did. One themewas “building and creating,” which seven people chose. A second theme had to do withgraphics, which one person wrote. A third theme was choosing a game because of interestin the topic, such as Pokemon, horses, and soccer, which four people chose. I also saw allthe things people play on like 15 people played on mobile, 13 play on console, and ninepeople play on computer. I saw when people play their video games. Six (7.1%) play inthe afternoon, six (7.1%) play in the evening, and 23 (65.7%) play any time 0 played inthe morning.Interpreting Results The results on my survey were sort of like I thought they were going to be. Ithought that Minecraft would get the most votes because Minecraft is one of the most
popular games in the world, but “other” got the most votes. Terraria got one vote, whichdid not surprise me because I thought it would probably not have that many votes sincemost kids think that since it is 2-D it is garbage. I know a lot of people who love Terraria, too. I thought Angry Birds would get the least, but it got two votes. If I did the surveyagain, I would probably put Roblox as a option and put pictures next to the things youplay on because a lot of people did not know what console or mobile meant and Iprobably should've not put “other” as a things you play on option”.New Directions If I could do my survey again I would put Five Nights At Freddy's in my surveybut I was not sure if it would get any votes. Roblox was a game I was going to put in butI forgot to do so. I was pretty disappointed that I forgot and I thought, “Why did Iforget?” I play it every day. If I did another survey I would probably do it on BMX bikesand pro scooter brands, or people's favorite game ratings or people's favorite gamethemes or people’s favorite video game toy or object.
