Seed book Seeds Seeds are the most important for gardening. Different plants, fruits, vegetables, flowers have different kinds of seeds. The seeds ranges from small to big, with various sizes and colour. Emphasizing on the importance of seeds and how plants are grown from it, the students were highlighted about the necessary information and were asked to bring seeds which were used to paste in the seed book. The students wrote the names of the seeds and glued the seeds according to their names. The students learned the names and colours of the five different seeds. They had a fun learning while doing the activities.

Board display As all plants germinate from seeds, the students were given a brief introduction of germination- how soil is used for planting the seeds, how seeds are planted, watered and how it grows shooting up in days. The students were asked to draw steps of germination selecting a seed of their choice. While drawing the steps of germination (of seeds and shoots), the students learned how plants grow and give us food. The paper where the students have drawn the steps of germination was the displayed in the board. The teacher was helped by the students in putting up the board for display.

Food making using play dough All the living beings living across the world depend on food for survival. Keeping in mind the importance of plants as food for birds, animals and human beings around the world, the students were asked to make food for the living beings using play dough. Before the food making, there was a class discussion on what the birds, animals and human beings eat. A lot of answers filled the classroom. The students were given play dough to make food. All the students engaged in the activity with full of concentration. They used their hands for rolling and shaping the play dough which strengthened their motor skills. Critical thinking also took place when they had to make those foods that only plants give us. Not only did the students make food, they also made flags of India, Korea and Japan using play dough. They had a fun learning doing the activity.

Singing song/reciting poem Along with the other activities, the students also learned and performed a song/poem relating to gardening. Classes Nursery and Prep had a choice either to sing songs/rhymes or recite poems alone. They recited the poems with action and sang the song/rhymes with action. Later when they were asked about the topic, they answered back with full of enthusiasm.

Conclusion “In our society, growing food yourself has become the most radical of acts. It is truly the only effective protest, one that can-and-will-overturn the corporate powers that can be. By the process of directly working in harmony with nature, we do the one thing most essential to change the world – we change ourselves!” Jules Dervaes It has been a very good experience for the students the teachers and the school as a whole to have actively participated in all the activities of the ISA. It benefited everyone involved in the activities directly and indirectly, learning about one’s own country – India, and also about the other countries – Korea and Japan, about the similarities of food we grow and take and how we depend on plants for food for survival and medicine. The students having the hands-on experience in learning was the most beneficial.
