2 Layne Trent Executive Director Alissa Layne Trent was adopted before she was even born! Her parents, Arnold and Agnes Trent, poured lots of love and “specialness” into a little girl who brought great joy to their lives. She began taking piano Lessons at age 9 and never stopped playing after that. Her love for the piano showed as she was playing full time for a church in Milton, Florida, at the young age of 14. While in middle school she began accompanying her school choir. Although she wasn’t very good at the time, the foundation was being laid for the thousands of accompanying hours that would follow her throughout her life. In 1987, Layne received Piano Performance and Music Education degrees from (then) Mobile College (now the University of Mobile). Layne came to Fort Worth, Texas, in 1988 and found her 2nd love within a few months – The Texas Girls’ Choir. She became Ms. Carter’s accompanist and never looked back. During the past 30 years, Layne has performed with the choir in over 40 countries of the world, and at the White House 6 times. Just last year she cleared Carnegie Hall off her bucket list. It has been a great honor for her to assist in developing little girls’ lives through the excellence of music. In 1988, she received her Master’s Degree in Education from Texas Wesleyan University but was too busy performing on the Today Show with TGC to get her diploma in person! She became the Assistant Director in 2003 and accepted the challenge of leading the choir as their Executive Director in 2015. Layne is also a full-time Music Teacher for the Fort Worth ISD. She believes with all her heart that music is indeed “the speech of angels,” and she considers herself very blessed to make music with the “angels” of the Texas Girls’ Choir.

Summer Tour In July 2018, the Choir traveled to Am- sterdam and South Africa on our annu- al summer tour. It was an amazing trip and we made memories that will last a lifetime! We performed for many peo- ple along the way, including a concert with our good friends in Bloemfontein and a performance at the United States Embassy in Pretoria! We visited places like the Anne Frank House, Robben Island and Kruger National Park! The animals we saw on safari were just incredible. The girls who went on this trip will never forget the things they saw, the music they made, and the people they met.

19 The Texas Girls' Choir performed at the official Sister Cities International signing ceremony between Fort Worth and Nímes, France, Fort Worth’s 9th Sister City. The girls sang the Star-Spangled Banner and La Marseillaise, the French national anthem. Sister Cities’ mission is to promote peace through mutual respect, understanding, and cooperation…..one individual, one community at a time. We were honored to be a small part of this community event, and hopefully one day soon we will visit our new Sister City in France.
