200 River Ave, Winnipeg, MB R3L 0B2 204-489-7480 [email protected] EMPLOYEE HANDBOOK MAY 2021 Welcome! This handbook is written to help you understand our organization and role within. Urban Prairie Cuisine, UPC, operates inside the Winnipeg Winter Club, WWC, a member’s only private club, and outside the club. We exist to serve people, and when we can exceed their expectations, we have succeeded. We provide our very best to the great people that have placed their trust in us to deliver one great meal or hundreds. Getting Started On your first day of work or before you will be asked to fill out an employment info page. Included with this page we require a cancelled cheque, or a direct deposit form for your pay to be auto deposited. You will need to download a scheduling app, 7-shifts to your phone or device of choice. Your invitation to join will be sent to the email indicated on your employment form submitted. Your schedules will be sent to you via this app by both email and text message. Get to know the app as time off requests, availability and other necessary and useful applications can be found on the app. Down load the App Powerpay, self service. This is where info about your pay cheque can be found. You will be sent an invitation to join again to the email you provide. Your cheque stubs and T4 will appear on this secure app.

Time Off & Availability Requests Many of our staff are part-time and will have other jobs. Therefore it is very important that you update your availability and submit time off requests in a timely manner. Schedules are made every Wednesday. We work from the information given to us, please keep it relevant. Time off requests are accepted or declined on a first come first served basis. If you have a shift problem your best course of action after the schedule is published is to put your shift up for grabs. Your co-workers will generally help you out and take the shift from you, and one day you’ll have the chance to repay them the favour. Reporting in sick, please advise your immediate supervisor as soon as possible. Vacation time is approved on a seniority basis. Departments Back of House (Kitchen), including Ice Café, catering, in-house catering & Bistro Front of House, including, banquet servers, bistro & Ice Café servers, bartenders All staff must be prepared to perform outside their regularly assigned duties as required. Dress Code Kitchen, staff will be required to wear uniforms when they are seen by clients. You will be issued a UPC kitchen jacket; however, you should have your own jackets for use during prep times. Aprons are always available in the main kitchen. Socks and closed toed shoes are always required. Ice Café cooks must wear either a chef coat or UPC shirt with apron at all times as well as a suitable hat. Socks and closed toed shoes are always required. Servers, with a few exceptions, servers will wear their UPC logo black shirts. It is your responsibility to have clean shirts as required. Black pants, not tights or leggings are also required. The shirts may be worn either loose or tucked in. Server uniform standards also applies to servers in the Ice Café. Socks and closed toed shoes are always required. Travel Time We are largely a travel caterer and do most of our work outside of the Winter Club. You will be advised on the scheduling app of the location of your work. Generally you will be asked to meet at the WWC to go with a group to your location. Time scheduled is your starting time, so punch in when you are at the club. When you are released from work by your supervisor, they will punch you out. Therefore you are

being paid travel time for one-way. This is not required, but offered as a courtesy. The driver will be paid until they arrive back to the WWC. Weather & Location Conditions Be prepared to work in outdoor conditions. Wear suitable footwear, have a jacket, change or shoes, whatever the situation requires. When working outside without customers summer weight clothing is allowed, however no short shorts, midriff baring tops or spaghetti strap tops are allowed. Regardless of where you work, you are representing UPC and must adhere to standards of dress and conduct. Meal Charges & Breaks We do not know when a break time will be available so we work until an opportunity arises for a break or a meal time. As breaks and meal breaks are not scheduled, we also do not dock your pay for the time you do take. You supervisor will advise you of your time for a quick break to sit down with your phone or your cigarette. Extra breaks are not allotted for smokers, be prepared. Meals are taken when time allows, you have to be prepared to wait for meals, so it is advisable to arrive for your shift not hungry. Sometimes over an 8 hour shift there will be only 1 meal break. We charge each employee a meal charge of $2.00/shift longer than 3 hrs. If you don’t take a meal during your shift you can let your supervisor know and you won’t be charged. All staff food is to be eaten on shift and on site; no food goes home with staff unless authorized by the supervisor. If you don’t have time to eat on shift let us know and you won’t be charged the staff meal charge. You may take home food from the Ice Café or Bistro but the charge is 40% off the menu price. Bring a bottle of water, not all the places we cater have potable water available. The drinks in the Ice café are not for staff, please provide your own or purchase at the Ice Café. Discipline Offences may be minor or major and will be dealt with differently depending on the case and frequency by the offender. A first offense on a single subject may be dealt with as a verbal warning or a written warning. In either case this will be considered a first strike. A second strike may be cause for a suspension. Third strike is cause for termination. Some offences are cause for immediate termination. Immediate termination is at the discretion of Dan Dworschak, Danielle Podaima or Elsie Guenther only. The reasons for termination include but are not limited to:

Alcohol consumption or drug use on the job or arriving to work under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Time clocking violations Theft of supplies, equipment or cash Deliberate misuse of equipment. Harassment of co-workers or customers Bigotry or discrimination of co-workers or customers Cell Phone Use Cell Phone use while on shift is not allowed. Please leave your phone in a secure place while working to avoid temptation. Servers may not carry their phone on their person while working. Your supervisor has the authority to keep cell phones in a secure location until break time if deemed necessary. Termination of Employment We hope your employment experience is both rewarding and enjoyable. If you wish to terminate your employment, 2 weeks’ notice is appreciated, to adequately cover your shifts. UPC may also terminate employment with suitable notice or immediately with cause. If no notice is given, in lieu pay will be offered.
