The Girl in Glass by Lou Cox Freedom Dawn Press

\"Say hello to her,\" said Alto. Alto had a faint accent from somewhere, and likely more somewheres than just one. Helooked slick, with stylish clothes that were colorful and crisp, and perfectly styled hair andmustache. He wore steel-colored glasses that set off his rectangular face and sharp, probing eyes. For everything he did, there seemed to be technology to accompany it, whether it was in his handor elsewhere on his body, on the table, on the wall. He wanted June to say hello to a large glasspartition. June pouted her lips and squinted her eyes. She'd been doing a lot of pouting and squintingsince the time that she'd won the fellowship that had made it possible to meet with the veryelusive and highly influential man who went solely by the name Alto, as well as receive a stipendto pay her bills, an internship with the social news start-up, \"Shout,\" and unbelievablenetworking opportunities. Truly, out of that awesome list of benefits, none of them was as hard toachieve as meeting the tall, wiry, copper-skinned Alto. Since then, she'd pouted and squinted atalmost every question she had trouble answering. What June had going for her was poise, brains and a fundamental lack of fear in suchsituations. It never hit her until after the fact that she should be anxious, scared or intimidated, soshe never broke a sweat or batted an eye. She just tried her best to keep up and ask questionswhen she felt she might be falling too far behind. She was on the verge of falling behind. Alto grinned and flashed white teeth. \"Go ahead. She won't bite.\" \"She?\" June looked everywhere up and down the large glass. \"Who is she?\" \"You are going to meet yourself, but you must say hello.\" June shrugged. \"Hello, me.\" An image appeared in the glass. June jumped. It was small and pale at first, the colors weremuted, but deepened in seconds. The image also grew to what June assumed was full-sized. Itwas a woman. It was a blonde woman, however. June remembered the times she'd dyed her hairblonde. Each time had been a terrible mistake. The woman in the glass was also much taller thanJune, by two or more inches. She looked like a magazine pin-up. \"That's not me,\" June said without thinking. She bit her lip. She didn't want to blow the meeting. If she received Alto's okay, she wouldhave the chance to blog about her experience with him and his amazing tech toys. He showed nosign of offense. His smile only broadened. \"Talk to her,\" he coaxed. \"Find out.\" \"Okay.\" June started slowly. What day were you born? Where do you live? What is your middlename? Where do you work? The woman in the glass gave all of the answers June herself wouldhave given. \"Okay,\" June said. She was ready to stump the blonde. \"Do you have any siblings?\" \"I am adopted,\" the blonde said, \"and I did not think so, but recently I found a brother andtwo half-sisters.\" June froze. The blonde had stumped her. How could whatever it was--a hologram--knowthat?»»Do you like this beginning? Share this with your friends and be sure to visit fdpreads.tk.
