Executive SummaryThis guidance sets out the minimum requirements that should be allowed for in designand construction of a building to facilitate the connection to a district heating or cooling(generally a district energy (DE) network) network. The use of this guidance will not addcost before a final connection decision is made but will help avoid costs in the event apositive decision is made. The intention of this guidance is to avoid the difficulties and costs associated with latestage engagement with a DE supplier, often at the end of planning negotiations and wellafter the start of construction. Should the building not be connected to a DE network thenfollowing this guidance would result in a minimal or zero extra cost. This guidance is therefore intended to be used by design and construction teams inadvance of the appointment of a district energy (DE) supplier in order that the buildingmeets minimum requirements to facilitate the safe and efficient connection to DE systems. On appointment or select the DE supplier will have additional design information specificto them and the building. The intention is that these specific requirements would build onthis guidance and would not require modification of works completed. This guidance has been created and is maintained by BESA as a representative body inthe industry and is authorised for publication by the members of BESA. It can therefore beregarded as relevant minimum requirementsThe Building Engineering Services Association District Heating & Cooling - Early Design Build Connections Standard 3
