Having made our home for more than 58 years at Michael A. Ries Ice Rink in Parma Ohio, we are a non-profit Club. Forestwood Figure Skating Club of Parma connects young skaters with goal-oriented coaching. Our Basic Skills sessions prepare each student for fun competition, shows and exhibitions. Once beginners pick up the fundamentals in our Learn to Skate program, they can move on to private instruction with the club’s Home Club Professionals, and Associate Club Professionals, which combines for more than 50 years of experience. Club sessions afford access to USFSA sanctioned events such as advanced level competition, testing, shows, exhibitions and private ice time on a rink uncluttered by fellow skaters or rush hour zamboni traffic. Forestwood Skating Club of Parma is sanctioned and certified by the U.S. Figure Skating Association, the governing body that oversees testing and competitions for all olympic hopefuls. Our Mission Statement: “Our vision is to nurture our skaters in reaching their optimal potential and personal skating goals through a club that values their dreams, self confidence, and abilities to the fullest.  Additionally, we strive to instill and maintain the love of figure skating and positive sportsmanship in our skaters, parents, and coaches”. Rachel Gray C O N G R AT U L AT I O N S My name is Rachel. I started figure skating 2021 when I was 5. I took lessons through Forestwood’s Learn to Skate program along with my sister, Tara, and it has been my home club ever since. With my ice dance coach SENIOR SKATER Stacey’s encouragement, I was able to earn my Gold medals in Moves in the Field (2016), Solo Pattern Dance (2019) and Solo Free Dance (2020). Additionally, I have recently earned my Gold medal in Free Skate (2021) with my coach Meredith’s perpetual support and guidance. Understandably, I couldn’t have ever dreamed of accomplishing what I have if it weren’t for my coaches, Meredith Schaefer and Stacey Stachowicz. They have helped me in so many ways, even outside of skating, and I am eternally grateful to have them in my life. In the last few years, I have become a coach myself and started teaching in both Brooklyn and Forestwood’s Learn to Skate Programs in 2019. In 2018, I started trial judging to further my experience and skating education. In the near future, I plan to teach private lessons, and extend my coaching to earn more prominent roles in our ice shows. I would also like to continue testing my International dances and coach a Theatre on Ice team. Most recently, I have been awarded the Gold Level distinction for graduating seniors from the United States Figure Skating Association. I have been a student at Ohio Virtual Academy throughout my entire education. Due to my unique education opportunities, I have been able to work above grade level and take College Classes for college credit at Tri-C since I was 14. Through this program, I have been working to earn my Associate of Arts and Associate of Science degrees. I plan to graduate high school with both of these degrees so that I can continue furthering my education. I intend on transferring to either Cleveland State or Baldwin Wallace to pursue my passion in Psychology, Education and Sports Therapy. Passing skill tests presided over by official judges advances the skater to the next level. Skaters test in moves in the field, free skating, pairs and ice dancing. As a skater advances, the tests become more difficult. The highest achievement in each discipline is passing the “senior”, also called “gold,” test. When a skater passes a gold test, he or she earns the designation “U.S. Figure Skating Gold Medalist title.” Please join us in congratulating these talented ladies, and wishing them the best in all that the figure skating future holds for them.

C O N G R AT U L AT I O N S 2020 SENIOR SKATER Kaelynn Higgins My love for skating started with the Rocky River Learn to Skate program and quickly grew from there. Eight years ago, I became a member of Forestwood Skating Club. It didn’t take me long to realize that the skaters, parents, and board members would become my second family. I am forever grateful for the friendships I have formed through Forestwood and know these friendships will last for years to come. 2019C O N G R A T U L A T I O N S I have achieved double gold medalist status in SENIOR SKATER Solo Free Dance and Moves in the Field and am working toward completing my Gold tests in Free Skating and Partner Dance. I have a passion for performing and am an avid participant in the U.S. Figure Skating National Showcase event, where I earned the Pewter Medal in the 2018 Teen Dramatic event, and the Gold Medal in the 2019 Senior Interpretive Event. I also aspire to be a Disney on Ice Performer. 2019C O N G R A T U L A T I O N S I graduated with the Avon High School Class of 2020 this past May. I am currently enrolled at Lorain County Community College where I am working toward my associate of applied science in SENIOR SKATER Early Childhood Education. I would like to thank my coaches Heather Galgas, Chris Demarest and GraceAnn Demarest for always believing in me and always helping me achieve my goals. I thank you for being positive role models and providing me with an abundance of positive guidance through the years. C O N G R AT U L AT I O N S 2020 SENIOR SKATER Cecily Priemer Cecily took her first learn to skate lesson when she was 4 years old and has been skating ever since. She has skated in many competitions throughout the years but really enjoys her showcase performances the most. She is a member of the Forestwood Figure Skating Club of Parma and would like to thank all her friends there for their friendship and support through the years. Some of her fondest memories will always be the end of year ice show at Forestwood. She would also like to thank her coach Heather Galgas for her all her great choreography and Jodi Higgins for all her driving. In addition to skating she was also a member of her school dance team and the Varsity ice hockey team. Next year Cecily will be 2019C O N G R A T U L A T I O N S attending Drexel University 2019SENIOR SKATERC O N G R A T U L A T I O N S in Philadelphia where she will study fashion SENIOR SKATER merchandising. While at Drexel, she plans to join the club figure skating team and hopes to teach learn to skate at the local ice rink.
