IB Mission and School MIssion IB MISSION STATEMENT The Interna onal Baccalaureate aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a be er and more peaceful world through inter cultural understanding and respect. To this end the organiza on works with schools, governments and interna onal organiza ons to develop challenging programmes of interna onal educa on and rigorous assessment. These programmes encourage students across the world to become ac ve, compassionate and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right. SCHOOL MISSION We develop interna onally minded ci zens of dynamic and crea ve psyche with inter cultural understanding and compassion for others who dare to act on their values, through holis c development of each child’s spiritual, moral, intellectual, social, emo onal and physical a ributes.

From the Principal’s Desk Bodhi Interna onal School is now an authorized IB PYP school. We are happy to announce that we successfully completed the process in record 18 months. We are now the only school in Western Rajasthan to have this cer fica on. This has been achieved due to the hard work and efforts put in by a lot of stakeholders including students, parents, teachers and the management. I am humbled by the scope of the task and the execu on of the same with precision and perfec on. THANK YOU to everyone involved in this process. Since we are now an IB school, it is worth talking about the features of the IB that are per nent not just in today's age but also in alignment with the New Educa on Policy envisioned by the government and from the point of view of 21st Century skills. We live in a world where knowledge is not the domain of a select few but is freely and equally available to all. Hence, the way ahead is not only through knowledge but also through the skills required to apply, analyze, synthesize and u lize it for the greater good. The IB Philosophy comes in with the right number of developmental points and prac ces to enhance this in all students from a young age. The IB also lays importance to giving students the a ributes to choose goals and take responsibility for selfprogress. This will help us build a genera on of selfassured and confident world ci zens of tomorrow. We, at Bodhi Interna onal School, are proud to do our bit towards the same. Developing language skills from a young age and, that too, through mul ple paths, is another cornerstone of IB Philosophy which sets a high benchmark for development of primary language in the children. The IB believes that the educa on of children should develop their primary language and not come at the cost of having to give the first language of choice. This not only helps in fostering language skills but also makes the regional languages more robust as envisioned by the new educa on policy. From the sugges on for extensive use of appropriate technology to researchbased learning, the confluence of ideas in IB Philosophy and the NEP is worth delving into deep. At Bodhi Interna onal School, we are now on the path of making a success of educa on through IB PYP in the forma ve years and CAIE Curriculum in the middle and senior years. I welcome all of you on our journey towards making our endeavours a huge success. Brahmam Bodhi Kishor Joshi Principal

From the PYP Coordinator’s Desk \"Opportuni es don't happen. You create them.\" Chris Grosser Dear Bodhian Parents, The hardworking and courageous Bodhians have created an opportunity to engage with world class interna onal educa on by successfully comple ng the PYP authoriza on process this month which was the epitome of a team effort. Yes, we are now an authorized school to implement the Primary Years Programme by the IBO! I congratulate each and every parent, student and staff member on a job exceedingly well done. The level of support we received from the management and the parent body throughout the process, the level of commitment we received from teachers and the unending energy of our students were paramount in our success. In the end, the buyin of all stakeholders into the value of what the PYP programme has to offer our students both academically and socially really showed through. Thank you! And, as we approach the last month of the academic year, it's amazing to look back on all we've covered throughout the year in our newsle ers and parent mee ngs. We learned about:  What does an IB Educa on Look Like?  What is Interna onalmindedness?  Inquirybased Teaching and Learning  Conceptbased Teaching and Learning  Transdisciplinary Teaching and Learning  Essen al Agreements  The Learner Profile A ributes  The Wri en Curriculum and Programme of Inquiry  The PYP Programme Model  End of Unit celebra ons  Student Ac on ·

From the PYP Coordinator’s Desk  Student Agency  Studentled Conferences and Assessment in the PYP  Using a virtual pla orm for learning You can see, we've learned a whole lot about the value and innerworkings of our PYP Programme together. Lastly, one of the most important lessons we learned from the disrup ons last year and at the beginning of this year, was the vital role school plays in our lives. A great benefit of schooling is to reduce inequi es in home resources, skills, and opportuni es. Parents can be, but are not always, great teachers of schoolrelated topics. A great teacher has deep pedagogical content knowledge, skills in mo va on and engagement, and skills in dealing with boredom and distrac ons. Most parents, even those who are teachers themselves, became more apprecia ve of the skills of teachers and the crucial role of schools. The home factors that really ma er include parental involvement, quality family communica on and, most of all, parental expecta ons. The climate of the home for learning ma ers: high expecta ons and high levels of communica on. Allow for errors and mistakes as opportuni es to learn. Try not to become learning police. This is the me to support and encourage, working alongside your children as learning partners and keeping their spirits high. I am sure that together we will manage to do this as well. Cheers to our accomplishment! Brahmam Bodhi! Warm regards, Shikha Srivastava IB PYP Coordinator

GLOSSARY OF PYP Transdisciplinary Theme The most significant and distinctive feature of the IB Primary Years Programme is the six transdisciplinary themes. These themes provide IB World Schools with the opportunity to incorporate local and global issues into the curriculum and effectively allow students to “step up” beyond the confines of learning within subject areas. Each theme is addressed each year by all students. (Students aged 3 to 5 engage with four of the themes each year.) These transdisciplinary themes help teachers to develop a programme of inquiries–investigations into important ideas, identified by the schools, and requiring a high level of involvement on the part of the students. These inquiries are substantial, indepth and usually last for several weeks. Transdisciplinary Theme Descriptors Who we are An inquiry into the nature of the self; beliefs and values; person, physical, mental, social and spiritual health; human relationships including families, friends, communities, and cultures; rights and responsibilities; what it means to be human Where we are in place and An inquiry into orientation in place and time; personal histories; homes time and journeys; the discoveries, explorations and migrations of humankind; the relationship between and the interconnectedness of individuals and civilizations, from local and global perspectives An inquiry into the ways in which we discover and express ideas, How we express ourselves feelings, nature, culture, beliefs and values; the ways in which we reflect on, extend and enjoy our creativity; our appreciation of the aesthetic How the world works An inquiry into the natural world and its laws, the interaction between the natural world (physical and biological) and human societies; how humans use their understanding of scientific principles; the impact of scientific and technological advances on society and on the environment. How we organize ourselves An inquiry into the interconnectedness of human-made systems and communities; the structure and function of organizations; societal decision-making; economic activities and their impact on humankind and the environment Sharing the planet An inquiry into rights and responsibilities in the struggle to share finite resources with other people and other living things; communities and the relationship within and between them; access to equal opportunities; peace and conflict resolution.

Learning Through Inquiry

Learning Through Inquiry Mind maps are easy to create and effective for the kids' mind. Keeping that in mind, children of Grade 2 made Pronoun mind maps, to translate what's in their mind into a visual picture. It made children understand Pronouns better and they were able to visually represent it too. Students of Grade 2 were involved in the activity, which showed their understanding of the properties of matter through visual learning. Students made mindmap on the key word 'MATTER\" and discussed about what are the practical applications of matter in real life. They came up with different examples of forms of matter, which they see around them and drew their pictures also.

Teachers’ Corner Transdisciplinary approach encourages and supports connec ons across learning and teaching as a means to raise students' awareness of the relevance of their learning to their reality. As teachers, we see learning as a process of construc on, building on prior learning through inves ga on, analysis and reflec on and we relish that building process in collabora on with our students. We begin our inquiry with \"Tuning in\" stage which is the first and very significant stage in all the six stages of Kath Murdoch inquiry cycle. * TUNING IN * In the words of Inquiry expert Kath Murdoch, \"It's about tuning in to student's thinking\". We start with student's prior knowledge and experience. Main purpose of Tuning in is to assess student's thoughts, feelings and understanding about the theme, to reveal student's misconcep ons and to help students personally connect to the contents. The role of a teacher is to provide various ways to do this by recognizing learning styles. Some mes, ac vi es are more verbal and visual; some mes, it may appeal kinesthe c and students enjoy par cipa ng in handson ac vi es. As students par cipate in different ac vi es and they have a chance to think about the contents, they begin to connect with it. As they connect, ques ons begin to surface. Ul mately, we want them to see the personal relevance. Well, what we are saying sounds quite interes ng, but how should we do it? Let me share some of the tuning in strategies which we have prac sed at Bodhi Interna onal School. As in 'How we express ourselves', students were told to work on word 'Express'. It was the brainstorming ac vity when students came with different expressions related to their surroundings. Gradually they start making connec ons i.e., what we want them to make, especially when it comes to their emo onal and social health and how they express in different situa ons. Rather than beginning a unit by announcing this term, we are going to learn about 'Community' (where we are in place and me). We ask ques ons.

Teachers’ Corner Old telephone pic What is this? How do you think it works? What this might tell us about how people lived or communicated with others in the past as compared to how we do this now. This can be further enriched by having students bring back stories of their parents and grandparents using these objects. Tuning in ac vi es help students to get engaged and tuned in for further inquiries and if tuning in ac vi es go well, ac ons automa cally start genera ng. CCA Coordinator Message

CCA Coordinator Message National Safety Day was celebrated on 4th March, 2021 with this year’s theme - SADAK SURAKSHA. The young Bodhians painted their canvas with colors of safety, precaution and the importance of following traffic rules. Through posters and speeches, our young minds made us aware about the importance of life of our loved ones and how damaging it could be if we fail to follow rules. They made us realize that being safe is not a choice but a conscious commitment to safeguard one’s life and others. Regards Radhika Sisodia Activities Coordinator

Wildlife Day 03rd March 2021 Learning has no boundaries! The young Bodhians celebrated Wildlife Day on 3rd March 2021. The purpose was to raise awareness about the dangers to the survival of wildlife around the world. Students came in their favorite costumes of the endangered animals. It was a fantastic way to learn about endangered animals and what their school fraternity could do to save them. Students watched a video explaining what the words 'endangered' and 'extinct' meant. It also helped the class understand why many animals are becoming endangered. Students discussed the risks and impacts of human activities on endangered animals' habitat. In the end, the Bodhians pledged to help the endangered animals and become Wildlife Heroes.

The theme of 2021 is “Let's all choose to challenge”. This year, the goal is to create a gender equal world. It is about celebrating a woman's success and raising awareness about the bias against women. We all should choose to 'challenge' to bring the change. To celebrate women and their journey towards empowerment, Bodhi International School organised women's day celebration to thank and show their gratitude towards all the women associated with Bodhi. It was a day full of fun, laughter and engaging activities to honour the spirit of womanhood. French Poetry Day 24th March 2021 Poetry, literature that evokes a concentrated imaginative awareness of experience or a specific emotional response through language chosen and arranged for its meaning, sound, and rhythm. One of the main objectives of the Day is to support linguistic diversity through poetic expression and to offer endangered languages the opportunity to be heard within their communities. The observance of French Poetry Day is also meant to encourage a return to the oral tradition of poetry recitals, to promote the teaching of poetry, to restore a dialogue between poetry and the other arts such as theatre, dance, music and painting, and to support small publishers and create an attractive image of poetry in the media, so that the art of poetry will no longer be considered an outdated form of art, but one which enables society as a whole to regain and assert its identity. The French poetry day was celebrated with lot of enthusiasm in Bodhi International. The students across grades performed French songs and poems with great gusto.
