IB Mission and School MIssion IB MISSION STATEMENT The Interna onal Baccalaureate aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a be er and more peaceful world through inter cultural understanding and respect. To this end the organiza on works with schools, governments and interna onal organiza ons to develop challenging programmes of interna onal educa on and rigorous assessment. These programmes encourage students across the world to become ac ve, compassionate and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right. SCHOOL MISSION We develop interna onally minded ci zens of dynamic and crea ve psyche with inter cultural understanding and compassion for others who dare to act on their values, through holis c development of each child’s spiritual, moral, intellectual, social, emo onal and physical a ributes.

From the Principal’s Desk The month of August brings a kaleidoscope of thoughts and emo ons. There is this looking skyward to spot the dark and low clouds laden with moisture that bring solace to the parched earth, and relief from the incessant heat. The clouds and the thunderstorms are followed by a dip in temperature, reigni ng the hope for tolerable climates to come. The above scenario and thought process fit well as a metaphor for India 73 years back. It was me to be free and become the master of one's des ny. Then we pledged to ourselves that, never again will we succumb to any kind of yoke from outside influences across borders. India has come a long way since then because we have invested in our youth at all mes. Con nuing the same trend, we look at our students as torchbearers of the tomorrows to come. It is an obliga on to prepare our students for the tasks that lie ahead. We need to help them develop skills, enrich them with values and ethics which will see them take India to pole posi on in the world order. Along the way, we need to keep the soul of India alive without losing our unique iden ty of Indianness. We want to march ahead but keep the spirit of India enshrined from our past alive. The month of August also brings joy to the farmer as he sees the Seedlings progressing past the stage of Buds and Blossoming into an iden ty of their own. Here at BIS, we look forward to a similar growth, a benchmark for which, has been established by the excellent result of our first A Level Batch. These students step out into the future to make a mark of their own in the world order. Our best wishes are with them at all mes. We are confident that the gradua ng Batch of Bodhians will make us proud through their journey in life. We hope you have a wonderful month ahead and best of luck in every aspect of your life. We are here to support you and commi ed to a con nuum of robust learning for your children. Brahmam Bodhi Kishor Joshi Principal

From the PYP Coordinator’s Desk PRACTICE MAKES BETTER Dear Bodhian Parents, My month's address is about the Interna onal Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme Mission Statement which is “The Interna onal Baccalaureate aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a be er and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect. To this end the organiza on works with schools, governments and interna onal organiza ons to develop challenging programmes of interna onal educa on and rigorous assessment. These programmes encourage students across the world to become ac ve, compassionate and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right”. I believe that a con nual reminder of the above would ensure that steps are taken and prac sed regularly to achieve our collec ve goal of desired outcomes from our students. What is also important to note is how Bodhi has adjusted this statement to showcase a slightly different vision of its prac ce: Bodhi aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring teachers, parents and students who help to create a be er and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect. As a school, we recognise the importance for teachers and parents to work together and be role models. It is through watching others around us that we, as well as students learn. It is when teachers and parents ques on, students will learn how to ques on. It is when teachers and adults model curiosity that students will learn how to inquire and find knowledge. It is when teachers and adults show care towards others that the students will endeavour to do the same. If we, as adults, put into prac ce our mission, students will become inquirers, they will develop a love of learning and they will learn the skills to become caring lifelong learners. So, let us make a promise to ourselves for our children, to be live examples of the IB mission statement in ac on! Brahmam Bodhi! Shikha Srivastava PYP Coordinator

Learning In PYP Through Inquiry

Unit of Inquiry Grade 5 Transdisciplinary Theme Where we are in Place and Time Central Idea z The earth's physical geography has an impact on human interactions and settlements. Lines of Inquiry z Variability of earth's geography. z The relationship between location and settlements. z Impact of human interactions on the physical environment and different landforms. Tuning in We started the year with this unit keeping in mind the situation due to COVID 19 pandemic. Since we were unable to meet physically, knowing each other was a little challenging. Children from different states made up our sections. To begin with the unit, we planned the tuning activity to understand each other's culture. Children were asked to conduct an interview or a chat with their parents. They had a chat with their parents/grandparents to gather the information about the origin of their family. If they had migrated from somewhere, why did they move to Jodhpur and if they were original settlers, did their parents change their profession or location of house? The students were asked to write a detailed paragraph about their family origins based on their inquiry.

Where we are in Place and Time This activity made some of the children dig deep into the history of their elders, resulting in developing them as ‘INQUIRERS’. They also learned that their elders were RISKTAKERS and were open to challenges that life had given to them. ‘Relocation was not easy’, they quoted.

Where we are in Place and Time Finding out and Sorting World maps with accurate coordinates were shown to students which raised queries in their mind like 'How the coordinates help in locating a place?' and 'How are these lines visible?' The use of compass also came up in the discussions. The students were introduced to the imaginary lines of latitude and longitude with the special mention of the important ones. Reading of the atlas and locating places was fun activity. One of the students questioned if we have a similar temperature/climate/terrain along a latitude and if this holds true for a longitude also. After the finding out stage, students sorted out the different places on a globe or atlas. They showed a keen interest in knowing the coordinates of the places of their interest.

Where we are in Place and Time

Where we are in Place and Time Making Connections After listening to each other and discussing the various biomes of the world, the students brainstormed the ideas to make a difference in helping those biomes. What remedial action could/should be taken was discussed. Some of them proposed certain remedial actions. Since some of the children were from other states, they wanted to share what their state was a few decades back to what it is now. Some of them mentioned about the stern steps taken by the government to protect the ecology that brought about positive changes. A few students also promised to plant trees/plants in the upcoming monsoon.

LEARNING 2D/3D SHAPES Grade 2 Students learn be er when they can relate to a subject and it is personally meaningful. At Bodhi Interna onal School, we focus on le ng students learn by doing, mo va ng them to explore and discover new things and develop a lifelong love of learning. We believe learning happens when the brain is engaged in making connec ons and crea ng familiar pa erns. The students of Grade 2 were introduced to 2D and 3D shapes using clay/dough and s cks/toothpicks/straws. Students made their own Cubes, Cuboids, Prisms and Pyramids. Using these models, they were able to understand the difficult concepts like how to differen ate between a pyramid and a prism, types of prisms and pyramids in an easy and fun way. In their forma ve assessment, each student was given one shape randomly and was asked to present it using a reallife example or model. Students enjoyed the ac vity thoroughly. When students learn in this way, they gain valuable skills that we some mes call the 4 C's of 21st century educa on cri cal thinking, communica on, collabora on, and crea vity.

Exploring Geometrical Shapes Grade - 5 Geometry City Geometry is one of the classical disciplines of math. Roughly transla ng in Greek as \"Earth Measurement\", it is concerned with the proper es of space and figures. It is primarily developed to be a prac cal guide for measuring lengths, areas, and volumes, and is s ll in use up to now.The most basic form of geometry called Euclidean geometry. In real life, geometry has a lot of prac cal uses, from the most basic to the most advanced phenomena in life. Even the very basic concept of area can be a huge factor in how you do your daily business. For example, space is a huge issue when planning various construc on projects. Our young mathema cians of grade 5 are trying their hand at city layouts and planning. The modern requirements of style and requirements are reflected in their lay outs.

For awareness on Janmashtami, the tales of Krishna's birth, his friendship with Sudama and Maakhan Handi were discussed with illustra ons. Children, along with their parents, enjoyed making different cra s and engaged in fun ac vi es like freeze dancing, making funny hairstyles, clicking selfies, making portraits of friends. Many children made cards that expressed their understanding of the fes val pictorially. A special men on also needs to be made about Grade 2 students who integrated Krishna stories with their Unit of Inquiry and shared their perspec ve on how Krishna had the 'IB Learner Profiles'.
