From the Desk of Principal ‘Success isn’t just about what you accomplish in your life, it’s about what you inspire others to do. We are proud to announce the third edition of our Newsletter of this academic year which will take you through the different celebrations of the month. It is overwhelming to acclaim the enthusiastic and young minds of CPS who has participated in various activities and events and made it a fruitful month. The future of the country depends upon its students. Perseverance, dedication and commitment to one’s life will determine the future of India. This month turned out be a memorable one as the atmosphere was filled with nationalism and oneness. We in CPS celebrated 75th Independence year on August 15th and our students participated in the virtual celebration, leaving no stone unturned. Sense of patriotism filled the air with cultural events enthralling the audience, on this auspicious day despite this covid situation. The Flag was hoisted with a limited staff followed by the National Anthem. It was joyful and heartening to see children participating in the virtual celebration with zeal and zest.‘Technology will not replace great teachers but technology in the hands of great teachers can be transformational.’ The dedicated staff in CPS enjoys a professional learning community that works collaboratively to ensure that the individual and diverse needs of students are met through an academically rigorous and differentiated instructional programme. We remain focused and committed to encouraging all students to be confident, caring and self- motivated, while becoming contributing members of the community. We will educate our students to face the challenges of the new era. My sincere thanks to our parents for the unconditional support rendered and my best wishes to the young minds of CPS. ‘Together we can do great things and make it a successful journey.’ Warm regards, Judith Singh. Principal

Highlights of the Events of Awesome August

Hiroshima Day: On the August sixth and ninth (1945) the whole world saw an inhuman atomic attack that was treacherous, destructive and chaotic. ‘The Little Boy’ and ‘Fat Man’ that were dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki destroyed Japan and shook the world. It was also a lifetime learning lesson for the world never to play with the atomic energy. Thousands of people lost their lives within a second. Its aftermath effect is still worse. Though Japan lost and surrendered, victory was never celebrated as the people suffered for decades after the war. The Hiroshima Day is celebrated to remember those who lost their lives on because of this inhuman act of bombing and to propagate anti-war and anti-nuclear ideology.

Social Science Week A week – long series of events and activities were conducted across the grades of secondary school to gain knowledge of the society we live in, to make the learning interesting and enhance researching ability in our students.

Teacher’s Corner Importance of SST, the activities planned and the learning objective “A people without the knowledge of their past history, origin and culture is a like tree without roots” Marcus Garvey Oh, the next period is history, it is such a boring class…. Ever wondered why history seems to be a ‘boring’ subject? “I need to memorise long answers to get good marks” – this is the assumption of studying history. No wonder there is a reluctance on the part of children to attend history classes. Today I am going to prove that history is no more a boring subject with long answers to get good marks. The simple trick lies in making the class interesting. How to make the class interesting? We don’t teach history; we tell a story. Story telling does not merely attract children but is capable of enticing grown-ups as well. It stimulates the imagination of the children and improves their concentration. Through stories, we try to connect the cultures by exploring the multi-cultural roots of India and the world. History through role play: One of the innovative methods to teach Social Sciences is the Activity-based learning. Here, the students become active learners rather than passive receivers of information. When children are provided the platform to explore on their own, learning becomes more meaningful and long-lasting.

History through monuments and forts: Visit to museums, forts and other historical places gives opportunities for children to interact on a common platform and experiment new things in a barrier-free environment. Debates and discussions: Social Studies Activity week encourages the debate and discussion method where every member of the group is given equal opportunity to make contributions towards the expectations of the program through interesting topics. In addition to all these, the new frontiers in teaching history have assumed gigantic proportions. With the new archaeological discovery in Egypt, consisting of wooden coffins dating back to 3000 years, the study of history has reached great heights. Unravelling the mysteries of these coffins have aided forensic sciences and Ms. Uma Venkataraman criminology. Through this we establish that history is not only a study of the HOD, History & Civics past but also is relevant to the present and a pointer to the future. Social Sciences subject comprises of a wide area of information from the various disciplines of history, geography, political science, economics, and sociology. During the Social Studies Week, it is our endeavour to project the various facets of history.
