MOSCOW UNITED METHODIST  LEARNING TREE    SEPTEMBER 2019  NEWSLETTER    September As we move into September we will continue to focus on classroom rules, learning each other’s names, how to greet one another, being a good friend, working as a team, and how to respectfully and properly use our classroom materials. Our themes are School Rules, Friends Share, Can I Play?, a nd Counting Apples. W e will also start to incorporate letters and numbers into our daily schedule! Preschool and Pre-K will be exposed to both upper and lowercase letters’ shapes and their names, along with each letter’s sound. We will be saying the letter’s sound while performing an action from a picture on a letter card. i.e. Letter: D...Picture: Dog…Sound: “duh, duh, duh”...Action: Hold up hands like paws and pretend to dig. Students will be introduced to groups of letters versus a letter of the week. The letters to be introduced for September are S s, Aa, Tt, Ii, Pp, and N n. W e will also be learning the numbers 1 , 2, 3, and 4. We will be using manipulatives, playing with play doh, drawing on dry erase boards, playing games in small groups, and much more to learn our numbers! Owl of the Week This month we will begin O wl of the Week! Your child will be assigned a week and will be bringing home a large owl poster to be worked on at home. This is a great way for all of us to get to know your child better. It has questions on it such as W hat is your favorite color? Who is in your family? What is your favorite food? D uring this week your child will be the leader in our classroom, have a special spot to sit on the carpet and table, help teachers pass out supplies such as pencils, crayons, glue and so on for the other students, AND be the first to be picked to do every activity. During your child’s owl week we ask that you also follow the following schedule according to what days of the week your child attends: 1. Monday- show the completed Owl Poster t o the class 2. Tuesday- bring in a favorite game to play with the class 3. Wednesday- bring in a favorite toy to show to the class 4. Thursday- bring in a favorite stuffed animal to show to the class 5. Friday- bring in a favorite book to be read to the class
