H.L RANA The Hope is rising; Optimism is galloping (CHAIRMAN) and Faith is stirring hearts again, even before the overseers of nations announce that the worldwide phenomena of pandemic that inflicted health, financial and economic loss is over. Though the unexpected and impossible happened and we were caught off balance, newer ways of doing things are well within reach. St. Andrews Institutes rose to the challenge, energizing millions of young minds, fighting the adversity, we retooled, redesigned and delivered seamless digital learning engagements to the youth across the country quenching their thirst of knowledge. Resonating with the times is standing up for both, continuity and change. I am filled with pride to see the way the Principal and the teachers worked as a team to do their best and make the new normal also an enriching experience for the young learners. The entire staff showed immense gusto and determination to tide over these challenging times , adopting the new normal yet ensuring the seamless juxtaposition of co curricular and extra curricular activities with academics. I extend my heartiest congratulations to Team Renaissance for bringing out the first digital issue of the school magazine Renaissance. I extend my heartiest good wishes to the editorial staff and the children. I am proud to say that everyone working in tandem have taken creativity and teamwork to the next level. I am very fortunate to work with such dedicated, innovative and caring staff members, parents and students. The children have participated in various activities , won prizes in competitions, the Board results have been excellent . In a nutshell , the pandemic could not bog down the innovative ideas, diligence , courage and equanimity of my entire staff and students. I would like to take this opportunity to welcome the newest entrants, our Pre-primary students and their parents . In keeping with the new normal , the Orientation Programme to interact with you in the school premises cannot be possible. Our curriculum and practices are consistently reviewed to ensure that we are following the most updated best practices, meeting all regulations, and addressing the future needs of our students. Our staff consistently follows current trends and after brainstorming over the best plan of action to incorporate those trends. The system of education has become so dynamic that it is no longer enough to connect the dots, we need to think out of the box and think beyond a pattern. We miss the time when the parents got a brief idea about the school, the learning methodology, co-curricular activities, confidence building activities and also watched the stage performance by the children . But we are going to showcase everything in Renaissance to give the parents glimpses of how life at Andrews will be for the tiny tots.We hope that soon things will be normal again. I congratulate team Renaissance once again for the 20th issue and the first digital issue of the school magazine.

st. andrews 8 /111 A message from guidance counsellor: As a guardian, you are a valuable stakeholder in your student’s educational success. Your child’s education is as important to you as it is to Andrews Staff. Here are some valuable Tips to become more involved in your ward’sbacademic, social, and emotional growth. v Are you aware of your students feelings toward their learning environment? If not ask them. Talk to them about their likes and dislikes about school. Ask them about their day, but request more than a simple “yes, no or ok,” answer. Find out about what they learned during the day, who they talked to, what they talked about, what they ate, what they played for recess, and maybe even ask them to teach you something they learned that day v Give them a chance to express their anxieties, fears, success/achievements and efforts. Most importantly continue to support and encourage them through their achievements and bad days by expressing and showing praise. v Meet and get to know their teacher. Have regular communication with their teacher. This will allow for opportunity to discuss any concerns and diffuse any issues as they occur. Communication will make you more aware of what is going on in the classroom, on campus, give the opportunity to ask questions and be involved. v Possibly, one of the best ways to encourage and assist in your student’s educational success is by demonstrating to your child that you expect achievement and growth. This does not mean that you demand all A’s on their report card, only 100% scores, for them to be the best student/athlete/artist, but rather expect for them to do their best. As school counselors, we provide services to support our students’ academic and social/emotional growth and development as well as their career development. Services to students include Individual and Small Group Counseling, Classroom Guidance, and Consultation. In addition to working directly with our students, we consult and collaborate with teachers and parents, regarding the developmental concerns and needs of our students, We also coordinate, design and implement special programs which target a variety of academic and personal/social life skills and concepts. Our goal is to support our students by addressing their developmental needs, and by facilitating their acquisition of the knowledge and skills necessary to become successful learners, both in school and throughout their lives.
st. andrews 9 /111 Opportunity and Prior Preparation This is for all the young parents who want their children to MRS SUDIPTA MOHANTY follow their dreams and scale the heights of success. As PGT (ENGLISH) parents it is important to know that opportunity knocks at the door only once. Your children are also going to see opportunity at their doorstep some day. As a parent , you would do everything in your power to help and support your children. Yes of course, you are your child's greatest well wisher . It goes without saying that you would do everything possible for your child to turn that opportunity to success. But children can still fail to take full advantage of the golden opportunity. The reason is lack of prior preparation. There is a saying that success comes when opportunity meets preparation. The way to prepare a child to grab the opportunity and be prepared for it has to be done by parents right from the beginning. One way , old fashioned but very effective is bedtime stories. The bedtime story routine is not just something that is fun for the child. There is a lot that a child learns then. The parent sometimes narrates the same story as the little kid demands and gets bored. He or she then narrates it in a slightly different way. The child subconsciously learns effective communication, asking questions and saying the same things in different ways ! The last is so important in the current competitive scenario. Rest assured , you have laid the foundation for your child t1o2 be a great communicator with lucid expressions and voice modulation !! Read out simple stories . Let the child look at the pictures while you read the story . Children these days are brilliant. They will correlate and learn. Be a Calm Problem Solver As parents everyone wants things to be smooth sailing for their children. But problems do crop up. Help your child solve the problem and let him know that you are proud of him. Be calm. You are giving an important life lesson here. Solve the problem and behave normally as if such troubles can be tackled easily.
st. andrews 10 /111 Goal Setting Lessons Set targets for yourself and your child for any task. First discuss all the problems that can be there in finishing the task in the number of days assigned. Discuss all the 'ifs and buts' . Your child will come up with very innovative ideas on avoiding it. Discuss the course of action. You are teaching your child time management here. He will slowly learn how to fit tasks in his homework and projects schedule very soon. Be ready to get some advices on your schedule now from your little genius. You have done a good job of teaching him to solve minor problems also here. Conversation is Important Set aside a time for sharing everything. Weekends and even dinner time everyday . Discuss everything ,from important world events to a small quarrel the child has picked up with his friend. You are getting a much-coveted chance to advise your child on what to take seriously and what to ignore. Remember not to sound pompous and and a know-all parent there. You are getting the chance to help your child leave out unimportant things and focus on important things. In other words, the children learn to 'think big’ . SUDIPTA MOHANTY PGT(ENGLISH)

st. andrews 25 /111 Teamwork in Parenting. Parenting is has many facets to it and it is amazing how the MRS SANCHITA parents switch roles instantly. Mothers are innate multi-taskers BANERJEE BAGCHI and they instinctively know what their children want. Fathers can view things more objectively and discipline them better PGT (ENGLISH) sometimes. This is the general view that most people have. But the reality is that the roles keep reversing. It is the mother who is tough at times too. The best approach however is to strike a balance. In case it is the mother who is scolding and upbraiding the child, father can assuage the hurt feelings later. Mother can do the same in case it is the father who is taking the child to task. It is however very important not to support the child in the middle of a discipling session. One can reason with the child later, point out that the parent is right . Then of course, the parent can agree with the annoyed and sulking child that the other parent was a bit harsh and he or she would definitely have a talk with the parent. This way the communication channel is open with one parent at least. This generation is too sensitive this strategy is an important aspect of parenting that everyone should adopt. The key is not to support the child when one of the parents is scolding even if he or she is a bit to harsh at that moment. We teachers also take care to reason with the child and assuage hurt feelings a little after scolding. Parenting is has many facets to it and it is amazing how the parents switch roles instantly. Mothers are innate multi-taskers and they instinctively know what their children want. Father2s8 can view things more objectively and discipline them better sometimes. Parenting is indeed a difficult thing….it's not only about cuddling, loving or caring but it's also about nurturing them to the best by imbibing them the right knowledge and values. Parenting requires a lot of sacrifices.Sometimes they parents may decide amongst themselves that who will be playing the bad cop and they may interchange their roles as and when required. Most of the time mother has to be the bad cop.The main motto is to make the child confident and disciplined .Sometimes the parents have to practice the things which they want to see in their child…..this works wonders ,more than words! Trust your child's word.

st. andrews 27 /111 Self-Expression and Managing Feelings: As with all creative pursuits, arts and crafts activities are a fantastic creative outlet.Subconsciously, children will be expressing their inner thoughts and feelings through their artwork. The process of turning a thought into a tangible piece of art is a brilliant way of allowing us to manage our internal thoughts and feelings, moulding them into something real.
st. andrews 28 /111 Patience We all know that perfection takes time. Whether that be the length of time it takes to complete a piece of art or successfully executing an artistic technique, it takes patience and dedication. Once their artwork is completed, children will feel a huge sense of accomplishment and will learn that hard work and dedication is very much rewarded. It can be tempting to rush things to get them completed . But, with time, children’s levels of patience will increase
st. andrews 29 /111 Concentration: Concentration is a skill which isn’t learnt overnight; it develops slowly. Remaining committed to the task at hand and not letting their minds wander can be challenging for some children. But, with an end goal in mind and the motivation to succeed, budding young artists will focus on their artistic vision. Practicing focus and concentration will benefit them in all areas of life and in a vast array of subjects.
st. andrews 30 /111 Organisational Skills: In a similar vein to planning, organisational skills can be developed through arts and crafts. Making sure they have the equipment they need close by, a good workspace and getting timings right can contribute hugely to the success of an art project. Being organised is, of course, a fantastic quality to have .
st. andrews 31 /111 Fine Motor Skills A key physical skill which can be improved through art activities is fine motor skills. During arts and crafts children regularly use the various muscles in their fingers, wrists and hands. Regular use of these muscles improves their strength and finesse, which then makes other tasks, such as writing, far easier!
st. andrews 32 /111 COMPUTER SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY “an endless journey through knowledge and enlightenment.” MRS RANJANA BAJAJ Computer science is the scientific and practical approach to PGT (COMPUTER computations and its applications. A computer scientist SCIENCE specializes in the theory of computations and the design of computational systems. Computers and computer science have impacted us in many different ways. Technology is evolving and is becoming a central need in everyone’s life. It is even being integrated into the education system, changing the way one learns and teaches. The Covid-19 pandemic has led to an inevitable surge in the use of digital technologies due to the social distancing norms and nationwide lockdowns. People and organizations all over the world have had to adjust to new ways of work and life. We explore possible scenarios of the digital surge and the research issues that arise. An increase in digitalization is leading firms and educational institutions to shift to work-from-home (WFH). Blockchain technology will become important and will entail research on design and regulations. Gig workers and the gig economy is likely to increase in scale, raising questions of work allocation, collaboration, motivation, and aspects of work overload and presenteeism. Workplace monitoring and technostress issues will become prominent with an increase in digital presence. Online fraud is likely to grow, along with research on managing security. The regulation of the internet, a key resource, will be crucial post-pandemic. Computers have made writing papers easier, emails have made communicating with teachers more efficient, and the Internet has made access to information become extraordinarily easy to come by. The developments and integration of computer science curriculum in secondary education is better understood by observing the current impact that technology has made on students, and exploring the perspectives of teachers and administrators on technology integration and the expansion of computer curriculum.
st. andrews 33 /111 HAVING A POSITVE MINDSET EVEN DURING THE TOUGH TIMES MRS SHWETA Past two years brought many challenges in our life, being MALHOTRA stuck at home and living a life which was never expected. A quote from Hellen Keller “Keep your face towards sunshine PGT(BIOLOGY) and you cannot see the shadow.” Similar situation was brought to many of us. Positive attitude is superior, still what to do when you face unwillingness. The most pleasant way is to cut all those negative bubbles or try to prevent them near you. Negativity comes from contemplating over and over until it becomes habitual. Some say, “But negative situations remain a reality, they just show up in everyday life.” The situation remains a reality, yes. They do show up, also true. But it is our attitude which makes them positive or negative. Don’t think of yourself as being a prisoner in your own house once bad weather starts to hit. Instead, try looking at this as an opportunity to focus on yourself and your home. Is there a room in your house you’d like to rearrange or cosy up for the holidays? Do you have a pile of papers waiting to be organized? Try to chip away at one productive thing a day. It’ll make you feel better. “You’re unjust to great places, today endure your day. Your mountain is waiting, therefore progress your way.” With a farewell stay happy with good thoughts and the sound world is yours.
