ความหมายของไฟป่า ไฟป่า หมายถึง ไฟที่เกิดจากสาเหตุใดก็ตาม แล้ว ลุกลามไหม้ในป่าได้โดยอิสระปราศจากการควบคุม ไม่ว่าไฟจะลุกลามไหม้ในป่าธรรมชาติหรือส่วนป่า สาเหตุของไฟป่า สาเหตุของการเกิดไฟป่า ไฟป่าที่เกิดขึ้นเองตามธรรมชาติเกิดขึ้นจากหลายสาเหตุเช่น ฟ้าผ่า กิ่งไม้เสียดสีกัน ภูเขาไฟระเบิด ก้อนหินกระทบกัน แสงแดดตกกระทบผลึกหิน แสงแดดส่องผ่านหยดน้้า

ผลกระทบของไฟป่า ผลกระทบของไฟป่าทำให้เกิดการเผ่าไหม้พื้นที่ในบริเวณ กว้าง เพราะไฟป่าจะเผาไหม้ทุกสิ่งทุกอย่างที่ปกคลุมหน้าดิน รวมไปถึงวัตถุที่ยึดเกาะกับหน้าดิน เช่น พุ่มไม้ รากไม้ และ หญ้าชนิดต่างๆ และความร้อนไฟป่ายังทำให้น้ำระเหยออกไป จากชั้นดินอย่างรวดเร็ว ส่งผลให้ดินแตกระแหงมากขึ้น

สถานการณ์ภัยพิบัติใน ประเทศไทย และโลก สถิติไฟป่าตั้งแต่ปี พ.ศ. 2528 – 2542 มีสถิติไฟป่าทั้งสิ้น 73,630 ครั้ง พบว่า มีไฟป่าที่เกิดจากสาเหตุตามธรรมชาติคือ ฟ้าผ่าเพียง 4 ครั้ง เท่านั้น ไฟป่าที่มีสาเหตุจากคนเรานั้นสามารถ แยกออกเป็น 3 ลักษณะสำคัญ คือ 1. หาของป่า เป็นสาเหตุที่ทำให้เกิดไฟป่ามากที่สุด การเก็บหาของป่า ส่วนใหญ่ การจุดไฟส่วนใหญ่เพื่อให้พื้นป่าโล่ง เดินสะดวก หรือให้ แสงสว่างในระหว่างการเดินทางผ่านป่าในเวลากลางคืน 2.เผาไร่ เป็นสาเหตุที่สำคัญรองลงมา การเผาไร่ก็เพื่อกำจัดวัชพืช หรือเศษซากพืชที่เหลืออยู่ภายหลังการเก็บเกี่ยว ทั้งนี้เพื่อเตรียมพื้นที่ เพาะปลูกในรอบต่อไป ทั้งนี้โดยปราศจากการทำแนวกันไฟและ ปราศจากการควบคุม ไฟจึงลามเข้าป่าที่อยู่ในบริเวณใกล้เคียง 3. แกล้งจุด ทั้งในแง่ของความคึกคะนอง และในกรณีที่ประชาชนใน พื้นที่มีปัญหาความขัดแย้งกับหน่วยงานของรัฐในพื้นที่ โดยเฉพาะ อย่างยิ่งปัญหาเรื่องที่ทำกิน หรือข้อกระทำผิดเกี่ยวกับป่าไม้

สถานการณ์ในไฟป่าออสเตรเลีย ความรุนแรงจากไฟป่าทำให้มีผู้เสีย ชีวิตอย่างน้อย 23 คน และสูญหายอีก 6 คน ณ วันที่ 5 ม.ค.2563 ขณะที่พื้นที่ที่ได้รับผลกระทบมากที่สุดคือ รัฐ นิวเซาท์เวลส์ และรัฐวิคตอเรีย ทางภาคตะวันออกเฉียงใต้ของประเทศ ไฟป่าเผาผลาญพื้นที่ไปแล้วไม่ต่ำกว่า 30 ล้านไร่ ส่งผลให้เกิด ฟ้าผ่าในขณะที่ไม่มีฝนตก หรือ ฟ้าผ่าแห้ง ยิ่งเติมเชื้อไฟจนทำให้ สถานการณ์เลวร้ายมากขึ้น ความรุนแรงของไฟป่าสร้างความเสียหาย ให้อาคารบ้านเรือนในรัฐนิวเซาท์เวลส์ 1,365 หลัง และจำนวนบ้าน เรือนที่ได้รับความเสียหายน่าจะเพิ่งสูงขึ้นอย่างต่อเนื่อง มหาวิทยาลัย ซิดนีย์ ได้คาดการณ์ว่า ไฟป่าในรัฐนิวเซาท์เวลส์ ตั้งแต่เดือน ก.ย.ปีที่ แล้ว คร่าชีวิตสัตว์ป่ากว่า 480 ล้านตัว สาเหตุการตายมีทั้งไฟคลอก ไปจนถึงขาดแคลนอาหารสถานการณ์ในไฟป่า

การปฎิบัติตนก่อนะระหว่างหลังการเกิดไฟป่า การปฏิบัติตนก่อน เกิดไฟป่า -หลีกเลี่ยงการเผาในที่โล่งแจ้ง -ไม่ควรจุดไฟในป่าหากไม่จำเป็น -ไม่นำสารเคมีอันตรายเข้าป่า การปฏิบัติตนหลัง เกิดไฟป่า -หลีกเลี่ยงการทำกิจกรรมกลางแจ้ง -สวมหน้ากากอนามัย -ปิดประตูหน้าต่างให้มิดชิด -ขับรถด้วยความระมัดระวัง ไฟป่า -กำจัดวัสดุที่เป็นเชื้อเพลิง
