Overview Hollywoodbets has always proudly been involved in supporting our local communities and we are in our fifth year of officially producing the Hollywoodbets Social Responsibility Programme booklet. In 2015 we supported 65 organisations by giving of our time and donating items they greatly needed. We were also very excited to be part of Nelson Mandela Day on 18 July! Our team dedicated their 67 minutes to doing community service for 12 Non-Profit Organisations in the six regions that we operate in. The Hollywoodbets Soccer Sponsorship Programme has also continued to make a difference by sponsoring full soccer kit to 71 community soccer teams this year. Another significant milestone is the fact that we joined forces with Jerry Sikhosana who became our official Brand Ambassador. He remains an inspiration, someone who invests time in others to help them succeed. He is particularly passionate about investing in the country’s youth and continues to give back to his local community, and to the sport of soccer. He does this by supporting his local legends’ and youth league soccer initiatives. Hollywoodbets proudly backs him in his good work, and have therefore come on board as the main sponsor of the Tembisa Masters League. In keeping with our values we are also investing in other sports, and are currently the main sponsors of Umlazi Cricket Club and the Crusaders Cricket Club. In addition to that we also support Clares Cricket Club and Parkhill Bowling Club. Between Hollywoodbets and Winning Form we sponsor 17 trainers, 4 jockeys and one workrider. In terms of the sponsored jockeys, Muzi Yeni continues to fly the Winning Form flag really high, while our solitary workrider, Francis Semela, also recently finished runner-up in the Workrider Series held in Gauteng. We opened 21 new branches across the country in 2015! This has also allowed us the opportunity to support even more worthy charitable organisations. Further to that Hollywoodbets invested in young workers by providing an opportunity for six graduates to enter an internship for twelve months. We are pleased to announce that all six interns performed so well during the year that they were offered permanent employment with Hollywoodbets! Over the year we also invested more than 10 000 hours in training our Hollywoodbets Team. We took another fantastic opportunity to introduce more people to our brand this year when Hollywoodbets signed on as one of the sponsors for the Sunfoil Dolphins. A highlight on our calendar was The Showdown at the Coast exhibition match between the Sunfoil Dolphins and the Cell C Sharks. Hollywoodbets used this as another opportunity to focus on its charitable work and donated R26 750 each to Malvern Children’s Home and Umlazi Cricket Club. We look forward to 2017 when we will continue to work in partnership with valued charity organisations and disadvantaged soccer teams. We as the Hollywood Group will continue doing what we do best, giving back to the communities around us and continuing to create jobs in our beautiful country. We thank our 3 500 team members for their continued support and dedication, and most of all our charity organisations and soccer teams for playing a special role in changing so many lives.6
HOLLYWOODBETS SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT7
KZN KZ HOLLYWOODBETS TEAM SUPPORT I Care Organisation I Care is a non-profit organisation that creates solutions for street children. They offer these vulnerable children rehabilitation, shelters, awareness programmes and skills/job creation programmes. On the 27th of August 2015 Hollywoodbets team members Zama Mdlalose, Tshepo Nthebe, and Zolisa Diki visited I Care Hope Centre to deliver the two television sets, Foosball table and 4 plate stove that Hollywoodbets kindly donated to the organisation. A DJ from Izwi Lomzansi joined the team to keep the children entertained and there were also refreshments served for lunch. The purple team had a great day celebrating with the children and the staff! HOLLYWOODBETS TEAM SUPPORT Parkhill Bowling Club One of Durban’s oldest bowling clubs Parkhill Bowling Club is situated in Durban North and boasts 230 members. This club has had a very long association with Hollywoodbets and once a year Hollywoodbets hosts a tournament at Parkhill. For years Hollywoodbets branded golfers have been given away as prizes at the club’s events. This year Hollywoodbets has decided to sponsor the club again by offering them some financial support. This sponsorship will enable Parkhill to play in bowls tournaments all over KwaZulu-Natal. They are also intending to use the funds to help make the sport more modern, with the final goal being to appeal to more young people to play bowls. Raymond le Roux, President of Parkhill Bowling Club was thrilled to receive this donation from Hollywoodbets. “Parkhill has had a long relationship with Hollywoodbets and we consider it an honour and a privilege to be associated with the brand. We love the Hollywoodbets brand and are looking forward to putting this donation to good use,” he said. 8
KZ HOLLYWOODBETS TEAM SUPPORT Malvern Children’s Home In 2015 Hollywoodbets became one of the Sunfoil Dolphins’ main corporate sponsors and decided to add even more excitement to the Showdown at the Coast exhibition match where the Dolphins take on the Cell C Sharks. Hollywoodbets pledged to give R500 to Malvern Children’s Home for each six that was hit during this match on top of a definite R20 000 sponsorship. The home received a contribution of R26 750 that was put towards buying school uniforms. Malvern Children’s Home was started in 1963 but the home has an even longer history within the community as before it was known as Malvern it was operated by the Durban Welfare Society and before that it was owned by various churches in the area. It has therefore been a home for vulnerable children for many years. The home currently houses 120 children aged between 2 and 18 in eleven cottages on the property. They find it very difficult to obtain funding to support this amount of children on a day-to- day basis in addition to meeting their educational needs. Their government subsidy is no longer covering the costs incurred when supporting so many children so they rely heavily on the support of people within the community and corporate sponsorship. Everyone at Malvern Children’s Home was very grateful for this wonderful donation. The money was put to good use, and was used to purchase school uniforms for the children. Everyone at Malvern thanks Hollywoodbets for this kind contribution. 9
KZN KZ HOLLYWOODBETS TEAM SUPPORT Crusaders Cricket Club The Hollywoodbets Crusaders have been going from strength to strength! The team achieved so many accolades this year including winning the following prestigious titles: National Club Championships, the Premier League, the Premier Reserve League, and the Division 1 League. They also won the Premier League T20 competition for the 2014/2015 season and the Premier Reserve T20 competition for the 2015/2016 season. On top of that the Hollywoodbets Crusaders were also recognised as the Top Cricket Club in KZN for 2014/2015 when they won the Wade Award. Finally they also won the Bertie Shire Award recognising them as the Top Premier League team in Durban for the 2014/2015 season. Hollywoodbets Team Support continued their sponsorship of this well-known team in 2015 and provided the Hollywoodbets Crusaders with new playing shirts, as well as team shirts to wear after their matches. In addition to that Hollywoodbets also supplied the club with new pitch covers for the main field. The club is involved in many events throughout the year and Hollywoodbets also assisted the Crusaders with taking their events to the next level by sponsoring prizes and vouchers for the club’s annual “Six A Side” Fun Day, as well as food and prizes for their Bowls Day fundraiser. Another major event on the club’s calendar, their annual Golf Day, was made even more special thanks to Hollywoodbets donating a cash prize to the overall winner and an equivalent amount to the club itself. It’s clear that Hollywoodbets is backing their team and helping them to be the best that they can be! HOLLYWOODBETS TEAM SUPPORT Centre for Rehabilitation of Wildlife Hollywoodbets Team Support also offered their support to the Centre for Rehabilitation of Wildlife (C.R.O.W). This organisation was founded 35 years ago and is committed to the rehabilitation of wildlife. It was one of the first organisations in the country to do this. Team Support donated prizes to the C.R.O.W golf day including Hollywoodbets goodies, a cricket experience for four people and a 4 ball prize. The prizes helped add some excitement to this golf day and everyone at C.R.O.W was very grateful for the donation. 10
KZN KZ HOLLYWOODBETS TEAM SUPPORT Umlazi Cricket Club The Umlazi Cricket Club (UCC) was started by Mdu Mbokazi in 1997 and is made up of pupils from different schools in the Umlazi community. The reason behind starting this club was to develop the sport of cricket in the township and the club currently has six teams, with fifteen players in each team. They cater for a wide range of players from different age groups as there are two Under 11 teams, one Under 13 team, one Under 15 team and two Senior teams. Hollywooodbets started supporting this local club in May 2015 when they donated some T-shirts, caps and cricket equipment to the players. Later in the year they also identified UCC as one of their chosen beneficiaries for the Showdown at the Coast exhibition match between the Sunfoil Dolphins and the Cell C Sharks. Hollywoodbets pledged to give UCC R20 000 as well as R500 for every six that was hit during the match. At the end of the match they received a grand total of R26 750! All of the Umlazi Cricket Club staff and players are very grateful for this generous donation from Hollywoodbets! HOLLYWOODBETS ARGYLE St Martin’s Children’s Home The children at St Martin’s are provided with a home as warm as any other, schooling and the kind of support required to build their self-esteem. There are currently over 75 children living at the home. Children come to St Martin’s for a variety of reasons. The child may have suffered abuse, neglect, have been abandoned, orphaned, or the child’s family may have lacked the financial stability to be able to provide for the child’s needs. The Hollywoodbets Argyle team helped brighten these children’s lives when they donated 75 bed comforters, bed sheets, pillowcases and a towel for each child to St Martins Children’s Home. The home’s Fundraising Co-ordinator, Michael Almendro, was grateful for the donation, explaining that the new bedding added a splash of colour and freshness to the bedrooms and will definitely keep the children warm. Everyone at St. Martins thanked Hollywoodbets for keeping them in mind and heart! 11
KZN KZ HOLLYWOODBETS EMPANGENI Bonisanani Orphanage Bonisanani orphanage is one of the projects supported by the Do I Care Enough Organisation (DICE). The housemother in this home takes care of 21 orphans whose ages range from newborn to 21 years. They cultivate their own vegetables where possible and do their utmost to have a positive outlook on life despite their circumstances. This year Hollywoodbets Empangeni surprised the children of Bonisanani Orphanage with a wonderful donation of mattresses, toiletries, gas cylinders and linen! HOLLYWOODBETS ESTCOURT Meals on Wheels Meals on Wheels cares for disadvantaged people regardless of their age or background, including orphans, abused women and the elderly. The organisation provides support that helps people to deal with crises arising from poverty and helps them to become productive citizens. They do this through several different initiatives including training, job creation and empowerment programmes. Hollywoodbets Estcourt donated some much-needed stationary to their local Meals on Wheels Food Security & Development Agency. This stationary was distributed to the school children of Mshayazafe on the 5th of August 2015. The 75 school children who received the stationary items are from very poor homes and most of them are orphans who are living with relatives and only surviving off of a social grant. Many of these children therefore do not have the privilege of owning their own stationary and were very excited to receive the balloons and stationary. They also enjoyed spending some time with the friendly Hollywoodbets team members!12
KZN KZ HOLLYWOODBETS LADYSMITH Môrester Child and Youth Care Centre Môrester Children’s Home offers residential care to children in need and is grounded in the principles of the Christian faith. They have three different facilities situated in Ladysmith and Newcastle. On the 8th of July 2015 team members from Hollywoodbets Ladysmith visited Môrester to deliver the microwaves, brooms, buckets, mops and ironing boards donated by Hollywoodbets to the centre. The team received a warm welcome from Mrs Tina Lombard, PRO for Môrester Child and Youth Centre, her staff and all the kids. She was very happy to receive all of these items from Hollywoodbets, saying that it will make a huge difference in the centre as they are struggling to get enough funding to meet their daily requirements. The Hollywoodbets Ladysmith team members were all very happy to give back to their community and help make a difference in these children’s lives. HOLLYWOODBETS NEWCASTLE TATTERSALLS CANSA The Cancer Association of South Africa was formed to lead in the fight against cancer in South Africa. CANSA offers support and cancer care to members of the public who are affected by this dreaded disease. On the 18th of July 2015, a day that is also celebrated as Nelson Mandela Day around the world, Hollywoodbets Newcastle visited their local CANSA branch to donate two wheelchairs and some stationary including A5 notebooks, cardboard, whiteboard markers, paper and some delicious milkshakes. Everyone at CANSA was very happy to receive these important items Hollywoodbets Newcastle delivered. The team members left feeling proud of the good work that was done and happy to have put some smiles on these deserving people’s faces.13
KZN KZ HOLLYWOODBETS PARK Durban Child & Youth Care Centre (DC&YCC) The Durban Child and Youth Care Centre is a Non-Government Organisation. Established in 1905 the centre focusses on caring for orphans and vulnerable children whose parents aren’t able to care for them. After assessing their needs, the Hollywoodbets Park team decided to sponsor the centre some washing machines, heaters and electrical urns which they were in dire need of. The 22nd of June 2015 was a great day for the Park team as they were spreading some purple joy and handing over these items to the DC&YCC. The kiddies were also spoilt with treats and the gratitude received was priceless! HOLLYWOODBETS PIETERMARITZBURG MBUYISA RACING & SPORT Lilly of the Valley Lily of the Valley is situated in rural KwaZulu-Natal and offers full-time residential care for 120 orphaned or vulnerable children who are infected or affected by HIV/Aids. Staff at the organisation ensure that all the children are given quality medical care, proper nutrition, and good education, in addition to the love, discipline and security which comes from belonging to a family unit in this homely environment. Mbuyisa Racing and Sport helped this worthy organisation by donating microwaves and kettles to help make feeding the children on a daily basis a little easier. 14
GA HOLLYWOODBETS ALBERTON Khanya Family Centre This year the Khanya Family Centre was one of the happy beneficiaries of Hollywoodbets’ Social Responsibility Programme. The Hollywoodbets Alberton team donated a Wendy House to the centre that will be used as a counselling room. The centre is experiencing such a demand for counselling that they are currently running out of space and the staff truly appreciate this extra room they can use to counsel those in need. In addition to the Wendy House Hollywoodbets Alberton team members also delivered some school bags and school shoes that were given to orphans who are being supported by the centre. Khanya Family Centre has been in existence for 21 years and they offer counselling for families, children and youths who are experiencing behavioural, psychological and emotional challenges. The centre also provides training for groups and individuals in the community that helps to promote healthy individual and/or family functioning. Khanya also provides care and support to children and families who are affected or infected by HIV/ AIDS. In addition to that the centre also provides support and care for orphans and other vulnerable children. 15
GAU GA HOLLYWOODBETS BOKSBURG St Francis Care Centre Hollywoodbets Boksburg chose to support St Francis Care Centre for the third year running by choosing this charity as their beneficiary of choice for this year’s Hollywoodbets Social Responsibility Programme. Hollywoodbets team members visited the organisation to deliver a jungle gym, printer and shredder. St Francis has been caring for patients who are affected or infected by HIV/AIDS since 1992 and appreciate the support Hollywoodbets has been giving them over the years. St Francis staff members were very happy to receive this donation as it enables them to use their funds to purchase daily necessities instead of these special items. They were particularly grateful to receive the jungle gym as the children love playing on it and it helps their physical development as well. HOLLYWOODBETS BRAKPAN Oliver’s House Hollywoodbets Brakpan chose to support Oliver’s House for the third year running as part of the Hollywoodbets Social Responsibility Programme. This charity has been assisting the community in various ways since 2001 and one of their main priorities is caring for disadvantaged children within the community. The children under their care are between the ages of nine months and six years, and have been orphaned because of HIV/AIDS. This year Hollywoodbets kindly donated some funds for fencing that will help security around the house. Staff at Oliver’s House were very grateful for Hollywoodbets’ continued support and for this particular donation. “We would like to thank Hollywoodbets for their generous support towards the security upgrade of our early childhood development centre at Oliver’s Village. Generous gifts from donors like them provide the financial and moral support needed to continue our mission. This particular donation will be used to upgrade the security of Oliver’s Village Early Childhood Development Centre. Due to the ever increasing number of beneficiaries using the facilities at Oliver’s Village, it has become necessary to take extra precautions to ensure the safety of the children in our care. We will be erecting a 61 metre palisade fence in front of the centre to keep it separate from the other services we run at Oliver’s House,” said Esther Ferreira, one of the organisation’s staff members. 16
GAU GA HOLLYWOODBETS DAXINA SOS Ennerdale On the 26th of February 2016 staff members from the Hollywoodbets Daxina branch went to visit SOS Ennerdale to deliver some blankets, a microwave, washing machine, iron, kettle and stove. This is the third year that Hollywoodbets Daxina chose to support SOS Ennerdale as part of the Hollywoodbets Social Responsibility Programme. This charity has been in existence since 1982 and have helped make a difference in the lives of children who have been orphaned, abandoned or whose families are unable to care for them. Their main goal is to help give these children the opportunity to build lasting relationships within a family environment. Staff at SOS Ennerdale were very grateful for Hollywoodbets’ continued support and thanked the company on behalf of their children for this kind donation. The appliances donated will help meet some of the children’s important daily needs. HOLLYWOODBETS HILLBROW Twilight Children Hollywoodbets Hillbrow donated some tiles, cement, paint and paint rollers to Twilight Children. This is the third year that the Hillbrow branch chose to support Twilight Children as part of the Hollywoodbets Social Responsibility Programme. Twilight Children assists disadvantaged children by giving them accommodation, meeting their other basic needs and taking them to school. Staff at the organisation were thrilled to receive this donation. They believe that the newly refurbished TV room and dining hall will be so beautiful that it will help to give the children hope and put smiles on their faces because they know that there are people out there who care about them. 17
GAU GA HOLLYWOODBETS KEMPTON PARK Tumelo Children Centre Hollywoodbets Kempton Park team members chose Tumelo Children Centre as beneficiary for the third year in a row as part of their Hollywoodbets Social Responsibility Programme. This year they donated some groceries, clothes, a gas stove and an enclosing wall to Tumelo. Since opening their doors in 1997, the centre has provided residential care and therapy to abandoned, abused and orphaned children as well as to young people who live with severe physical and intellectual disabilities. The staff at the centre were all grateful for this year’s donation knowing that they will save money thanks to the clothes and groceries, and because they will now be cooking on gas instead of using electricity. The parameter wall will also help to keep Tumelo’s residents safe. They thank Hollywoodbets for their continued support as it impacts positively on the entire Ivory Park community. HOLLYWOODBETS LENZ STATION Lambano Sanctuary Children and staff at the Lambano Sanctuary were very happy to receive another donation from Hollywoodbets this year. This is the third year that Hollywoodbets Lenz has chosen to support Lambano Sanctuary. The organisation first opened its doors in 2001 and care for children who have been abandoned or orphaned due to HIV/AIDS. Hollywoodbets’ donation of cutlery, glasses, mattresses, generators and school bags truly made a difference in these children’s lives. Staff members at Lambano thanked Hollywoodbets management profusely for this donation as they would never have been able to afford these essential items. They were especially thankful for the new mattresses as the old ones had worn very thin from use. 18
GAU GA HOLLYWOOD NEWTOWN MALL Sparrow Village Hollywoodbets Newtown Mall team members went to visit Sparrow Village for the third year to go and donate a microwave, freezer, washing machine and some cookware to this worthy organisation. Sparrow Village first opened its doors in 1991 and care for people who have been affected by illness. This organisation is a hospice for the terminally ill and a home for vulnerable children who have become homeless due to the death of their parents. The staff and children were very grateful to Hollywoodbets for this donation as they have many houses and the appliances are used by many children. These appliances will therefore be a great help when it comes to meeting the village’s daily needs. HOLLYWOODBETS THREE RIVERS Trentico House Hollywoodbets Three Rivers chose Trentico House as their charity of choice to benefit from the Hollywoodbets Social Responsibility Programme. The Three Rivers branch has been supporting this wonderful local charity for five years. House Trentico has been providing housing for vulnerable children who have been abused for the past ten years and were very excited to receive a newly refurbished kitchen from Hollywoodbets. As the old kitchen cupboards have been falling apart for the past five years the staff members were thrilled to see their new cupboards being installed. This is a very great help as their funds are currently used to feed and clothe the children, meaning there was no extra money available to fix the kitchen. The house mother, Joey, is very happy because she will now be able to cook for the children in a healthy, neat and comfortable environment. 19
