Sprinkle the nuts on top of the ke at 350 degrees for 1 hour. h whipped cream or ice cream.

DI SH I N’WITH We’re proud to share this recipe for Mirliton Casserole from Park Creek resident Lois Comeaux — Bon Appetit! A New Orleans Favorite!

F RLOOMITSHCEOK IMT CEHAEUNXOF: Ingredients: ½ cup parmesan cheese 12 Mirliton, cooked for topping and cleaned 2-3 cups of Italian bread 1 bunch of green crumbs or white onions, chopped unsalted crackers 1 large white onion, Salt to taste chopped 1 pound of shrimp, 1 bunch parsley, cookedandchopped chopped ½ pound chopped ham 8 toes of garlic, chopped or 1 pound of 1 bay leaf crab meat ½ teaspoon thyme Small amount ¼ teaspoon of cooking oil of cayenne pepper

Instructions: To cook Mirlitons, boil or cut in half and microwave. Cook until tender and drain in a colander; they will have a large amount of water. Fry all the vegetables in a frying pan for 3-5 minutes. Peel the Mirlitons and discard the large white seed and the surrounding pulp. Chop or mash into the veggie mixture, and then add spices, cooked shrimp and ham pieces. Add enough bread crumbs or crackers to absorb some of the water in the mixture but you do not want the mixture to dry out. Cook for approximately 30 minutes to let the bread dissolve. Transfer to a large baking dish, sprinkle more bread crumbs and parmesan cheese on top and then dot with butter. Bake until cheese melts and mixture is slightly brown at 350 degrees. Do not freeze this dish. Serves approximately 10.
