Separate instructions are given with each section and question, wherever necessary. Read these instructions very carefully and follow them. 3. Do not exceed the prescribed word limit while answering the questions. PART – A (40 Marks) 20 Marks READING 1. Read the passage given below. The choices we make on a daily basis—wearing a seatbelt, lifting heavy objects correctly or purposely staying out of any dangerous situation—can either ensure our safety or bring about potentially harmful circumstances. You and I need to make a decision that we are going to get our lives in order. Exercising self- control, self-discipline and establishing boundaries and borders in our lives are some of the most important things we can do. A life without discipline is one that’s filled with carelessness. We can think it’s kind of exciting to live life on the edge. We like the image of “Yeah! That’s me! Living on the edge! Woo-hoo!” It’s become a popular way to look at life. But if you see, even highways have lines, which provide margins for our safety while we’re driving. If we go over one side, we’ll go into the ditch. If we cross over the line in the middle, we could get killed. And we like those lines because they help to keep us safe. Sometimes we don’t even realize how lines help to keep us safe. I’m not proud of this, but for the first 20 years of my life at work, I ignored my limits. I felt horrible, physically, most of the time. I used to tell myself “I know I have limits and that I’ve reached them, but I’m going to ignore them and see if or how long I can get by with it.” I ran to doctors, trying to make myself feel better through pills, vitamins, natural stuff and anything I could get my hands on. Some of the doctors would tell me, “It’s just stress.” That just made me mad. I thought stress meant you don’t like what you do or can’t handle life, and I love what I do. But I kept pushing myself, traveling, doing speaking engagements and so on— simply exhausting myself. Finally, I understood I was living an unsustainable life and needed to make some changes in my outlook and lifestyle. You and I don’t have to be like everyone else or keep up with anyone else. Each of us needs to be exactly the way we are, and we don’t have to apologize for it. We’re not all alike and we need to find E-7 Click Here to Buy Main Book Online

(iii) What mademe Forestier exclaim in astonishment, when she saw Matilda, years after the Minister’s ball? Ans.*(A) (i) Annie feels so because she knew that if Keesing had not taken the joke lightly, punishment should have been severe. The poem rightly refers to the father swan who bit his ducks because they quacked too much. The joke is obviously on Keesing. It conveys the value of talking. So Annie is fortunate that Keesing took it lightly. (ii) Fire and ice are the symbols that stand for greed/lust/human desire. Ice stands for hatred/coldness/human indifference. It these evils aren’t curbed, humanity may perish. This symbolism is obviously important as it conveys the poet’s hidden or implied that these shall bring the world to an end. He has invented a medicine which after consumption makes a human invisible. But Griffin is a lawless person and is loose-tempered. He can’t do anything that behoves a civilized person. He burns the house when owner demands rent from him. He steals money and attacks Jaffers, the constable. These negative traits elipsed his brilliance as a scientist. Mr. Weiherer was rightly pleased as Ebright balanced academics as well as recreational pursuits. He had different hobbies like debates, speaking etc. He was a champion debater and public speaker. He became a good canoeist and all round outdoors-person. He was also an expert photographer of nature and scientific exhibits. Matilda had became a woman of the people. She looked poor, emaciated and weak. She underewent this physical change due to very hard domestic work. She did it to save every sou to pay back the loans or borrowings. The Loisels had to take on loan much money for paying Madame. Forestier for her lost necklace. (5 × 1) (A) Hari Singh says– “He knew it but neither his lips nor his eyes showed anything.” Anil successfully addressed the situation by not addressing it at all. Elaborate based on your reading of The Thief’s Story. OR @ qualitystudymaterial _telegram(B) Read the following quote by an American author, E. E. Hale. “I am only one but, I am one. I cannot do everything but I can do something. And I will not let what I cannot do interfere with what I do.” Bholi’s evolution from a ‘dumb cow’ to a ‘masterpiece’ supports the given quote. Justify. Ans.*(A) It is a fact that Anil successfully addressed the situation by not adressing it at all. He had a magnanimous heart. He looked at the stealth of Hari Singh in a different perspective. He believed in the fact that he could help Hari Singh and therefore he must. So he had a charitable conscience. He knew that the money had been taken outside as the notes were damp. But he preferred to handle the situation like a man who lives for others. If he had snubbed Hari Singh and shunked him out his nature would have revolted. So befitting his character he didn’t react to the stealth. He wanted to see Hari Singh as a successful man, through educating him and helping him variously. Hari Singh’s honesty prevailed over his temptation and he returned. Anil wanted to reward him. But he thought if he discussed the theft it could have been counter productive. (B) The quotation by the American author focuses at one point. It is that one can achieve heights and will achieve heights of success if one determines. All are not born great. But they achieve greatness through hard work, perservance, courage, forbearance and patience. However, they need guidance and moral support. Bholi’s evolution from a ‘dumb cow’ to a ‘masterpiece’ support this. Before Bholi is sent to school she is ridiculed by all. Even her parents, sisters do not have a soft corner for her. They also discourage her in many ways. Her father has no hope for her and her mother equally treats her not mother-like. But education and her teacher’s moral support make Bholi a masterpiece. She opposes the inappropriate match of her with Bishamber. He demands money as dowry. But he is shown the way out. Bholi is now a courageous, self-respecting and morally-sound woman who can face the world all alone. She, therefore, proves the essence of the quote of the American author. A necklace with three pendants bunched together and a few bangles above the elbow and wrist on the right hand display an almost modern art. 4. She speaks of the undaunted, ever hopeful human spirit. How then do we reach our children through all the conflicting views and make the voice of reason be heard? Children today question choices and prefer to go with the flow. 6. What then is the best path to take? I would say the most important thing one can do is to listen. Listen to your children and their silences. Ensure that you keep some time aside for them, insist that they share their stories with you. Step into their world. It is not as complicated as it sounds; just a daily half an hour of quality time would do the trick. 2.1. Yours faithfully Divyansh/Divyanshi Or Negative Impact of the Internet on Children It is very sad to note that children have started misusing the Internet inappropriately. Internet use for wrong purposes has become a craze for them. There are programmes for adult viewing and these are viewed mostly by them. Indulging in them is deviating from the right paths of life. Children have to build up their careers first for a good and centered life. But the misuse of Internet makes them astray. Secondly, sitting all the times before TV or using mobiles is sheer waste of time. Doing so is also absence of physical activity. It has a bad effect on one’s physical health. When health is compromised this way one starts suffering from various ailments. Thus viewing Internet programmes most of the times is fraught with bad results. The world dis- played by the Internet is virtual and has not much connection with the real world. After all one can’t remain all the times in a virtual world. Thus viewing Internet is not the desired thing for the children. Using it needs parental guidance for the children. Their age is most vulnerable. So parents should guide their children the right way in the use of Internet. 4. Complete the following story in 150–200 words. (10) Rohit was driving a motorcycle.
