BUILDING A LIFETIME OF SERVICE EVENT SPONSORS LISTING The Legacy of VISIONARY SPONSORS Lenora Mathews LEADERSHIP SPONSORS LENORA MATHEWS TRIBUTE COMMUNITY SPONSORS Lenora Mathews was a woman before her time. 2 VOLUNTEER HAMPTON ROADS 2019 Annual Report She was a visionary, who as the first executive director of VOLUNTEER Hampton Roads, created an organization that made it possible for anyone and everyone to serve their community as a volunteer. Her vision grew into the mission that our organization has today, to CONNECT businesses with opportunities which create a positive impact on our community; to EQUIP nonprofits with the resources they need to achieve their mission; to MOBILIZE a community of volunteers to create change. In addition to realizing the impact that volunteers make on Hampton Roads, Lenora also felt strongly about the need to recognize these volunteers publicly. In 1975, she began the first Hampton Roads Volunteer Achievement Awards. 44 years later, we are still hosting this inspiring and uplifting event that highlights the efforts of many individuals and groups who contribute their time in our community. In 1998, the Lenora Mathews Lifetime Achievement award was given to honor her. Since then, this award has recognized 20 individuals who have used their influence, dedication to their community, time and voice to lead and encourage volunteerism and community service.
