Quick Fact: As a result of the Traffic Crash and Traffic Enforcement Analysis, & the Identification of Problem Intersections in 2017, the Titusville Police Department will Conduct the Following Traffic Enforcement Initiatives to Promote Traffic Safety and Education, & to Reduce Property Damage/Physical Injury Associated with Vehicle Crashes within the City of Titusville In 2018:1. Participate in the annual traffic enforcement campaigns such as Click It or Ticket;2. Increase enforcement efforts in high crash volume areas;3. Increase use of traffic message boards and radar measurement trailers in traffic complaint areas around the City;4. Continue use of social media to increase traffic safety/education awareness;5. Conduct DUI enforcement details;6. Quick Facts by the Numbers (2017): 174 Total Number of K-9 Team Deployments 12.75 Total Pounds of Illegal Narcotics Seized By K-9 Teams Quick Fact: 6In May 2017, TPD acquired two Suspectsfourteen month old Belgian Malinois Located & Arrestedafter K-9 Berry & K-9 Lex honorablyretired. The two male puppies, who by K-9 Trackswere also litter-mates, were born inBelgium & came from a long line of 2police & military service dogs. Missing/Suicidal Persons Located by K-9 TracksTPD asked the community to helpchoose names for our two newestmembers. After an overwhelming &amazing response from the citizens ofTitusville, our K-9’s were named“Scooby” and “Chase.”Both Scooby and Chase were certifiedas official K-9’s after a 640-hourtraining regimen with their handlers fornarcotics detection, criminalapprehension, handler protection,area & building searches, & tracking.60

Quick Fact: The Special Weapons and Tactics Team (SWAT) is a designated, specialized team within the Titusville Police Department, whose members are recruited, selected, trained, equipped, and assigned to resolve/respond to critical/high-risk incidents that would otherwise exceed the capabilities of traditional law enforcement, first responders, and/or investigative units.62

Quick Fact: SWAT by the Numbers (2017): 16 Average Amount of Hours SWAT Trains each Month in Addition to Outside/Advanced Training Received 11 Activations 5 Search Warrants 4 Armed/Barricaded/Suicidal Gunman 2 Directed ActionsEach December, SWAT concludes training for the year with aweek-long/40-hour training circuit encompassing all aspectsof the Team’s training throughout the year on topics such asFirearm & Weapon Qualifications, Vehicle Apprehensions,High-Risk Search Warrants, Active Shooter Training, DignitaryProtection, & Tactical Rural Tracking Utilizing K-9 Teams.TPD SWAT Members maintain memberships with theNational Tactical Officers Association (NTOA), & the FloridaSWAT Association (FSA), while SWAT Snipers are also membersof the American Sniper Association (ASA).These organizations provide our Team with advanced trainingon topics including Team Leader Development, SWATCommand Decision Making & Leadership, Armored VehicleRescue Operations, Tactical Medical, Hostage Rescue, &Sniper Certification Courses. 63

In the past few years, TPD GOES GREENthe Titusville Police WITH DIGITALDepartment has BARCODE /been successful insolving a number of SCANNING SYSTEMmajor crimes using TPD now barcodes & scans all property &DNA & fingerprints. evidence during intake & release. This barcode/scanning system, to include a tablet, increases efficiency, productivity, accountability, reduces cost, increases security, reduces retrieval times, & enables TPD to move toward a paperless (green) environment. 65

The Titusville Police Department has 69its own Victim Advocate whoprovides victims and witnesses withsupport, assistance, and crisisintervention at a time when it ismost needed. The initial shockfollowing a crime, sudden death, orother trauma is harsh and painfulfor those involved. The VictimAdvocate is an additional resourcein the police department whichallows us to focus more attentionon the victim(s).The Victim Advocate can helpvictims of domestic violence,sexual battery, and humantrafficking apply for relocationassistance, and can also assistvictims in applying for Crime VictimCompensation such as:reimbursement for medicalexpenses, wage loss, property loss,counseling, and funeral/burialexpenses.
