GREEK WINE Greece is the land of Sun and Sea and is also the land of Dionysus,the God of Wine. It is the original grape growing and wine producing country, where the cultivation of wine dates back to ancient times. The wines of Greece, famous throughout the ancient world, were mentioned by Homer, Pausanias, Thucydides and many other distinguished men. Greece is in a position to offer its own indigenous varieties that are manifestly on a par with the best wines of the world. The Vilana cultivars of Crete, the Athiri and Mantinia cultivars of the Aegean Islands, the Assyrtiko of Santorini, the Xinomavro grown in Naoussa, Amyndaio and Goumenissa, the Agiorgitiko of Nemea, the Moschofilero of Mantinia, etc. all of these cultivars grown throughout Greece give their very distinctive colours to the palette of Greek quality wines. As much as 5% of all arable land in Greece is assigned to vineyards, covering a total area of 180,000 hectares. The yearly wine production is 5,000,000 litres of which 60% is white, 35% is red and 5% is rosé. ΕΛΛΗΝΙΚΟ ΚΡΑΣΙ Ελλάδα, χώρα του ήλιου και της θάλασσας αλλά και χώρα του Διονύσου, του Θεού του κρασιού. Πρώτη ανάμεσα στις παραδοσιακές αμπελουργικές χώρες. Είναι η γη που κατά κύριο λόγο αναπτύχθηκε κατά την αρχαιότητα η καλλιέργεια της αμπέλου. Τα Ελληνικά κρασιά, ονομαστά σ’ολόκληρο τον τότε κόσμο, αναφέρονται και υμνούνται στα κείμενα του Ομήρου, του Παυσανία, του Θουκυδίδη αλλά και πολλών άλλων μεγάλων. Σήμερα στην Ελλάδα υπάρχουν και καλλιεργούνται Ελληνικές ποικιλίες που δεν έχουν τίποτε να ζηλέψουν από τις ξενικές. Η Βηλάνα στην Κρήτη, το Αθήρι και η Μανδηλαριά στο Αιγαίο, το Ασύρτικο στη Σαντορίνη, το Ξυνόμαυρο στη Νάουσα, στο Αμύνταιο και τη Γουμένισσα, το Αγιωργίτικο στη Νεμέα, το Μοσχοφίλερο στην Μαντινεία, κλπ. δίνουν σε όλο σχεδόν τον Ελλαδικό χώρο μερικές χαρακτηριστικές πινελιές στην παλέττα των Ελληνικών κρασιών ποιότητας. Στην Ελλάδα το 5% των καλλιεργούμενων εκτάσεων είναι αμπελώνες. Συνολικά καλλιεργούνται 180.000 εκτάρια και παράγονται 5.000.000 Λίτρα Κρασιού από τα οποία το 60% είναι λευκό, το 35% ερυθρό και το 5% ροζέ.
